  1. We've got an adopted one --JONES --good Welsh name and he comes from South Wales (well he lives there now --- but originally New South Wales!!)
  2. Looking forward to a great meeting, a big crowd and late bar with karoke disco (!!)
  3. THE ALL ACTION AMERICAN KID COMPLETES WELSH OPEN LINE-UP The final spot in the prestigious 2010 Welsh Open Championship has been handed to an exciting young prospect who has been impressing fans , scoring points and taking some scalps in the short space he has been riding in the UK in the All Action American Kenny Ingalls. The youngster was the star performer in the USA Dream Team 2010 tour and his signature was chased by several clubs before he joined the Workington Comets, where he has settled in quickly to get amongst the points. Pitching himself up against the top stars lined-up in the Welsh Open does not phase him in any way, “ I’ll be out to lower a few colours and gain a few more scalps on the way, “ says the youngster, “ I will be all out to finish as high as I can and hopefully make the Grand Final and earn a nice juicy pay packet!” Meeting co-ordinator Laurence Rogers believes that Kenny could prove a spoiler in the meeting, “ Knowing Kenny as I do having been his team manager on his USA Dream Team tours, I think he could be a surprise package and shock a few. He is an all action never-say-die type of rider who always gives 110% and being American brings the showman side to the meeting which the fans will love.” “When we had to replace Ty Proctor we looked long and hard at the riders available and to be honest at first Kenny was not even thought of but the more I looked at it the more I thought we needed something different to complete the line-up. So with the insider knowledge of Kenny he became the favourite to bring in and it took less than ten seconds to get him to agree to do it.” “Now with the line-up complete we can get out and finish off promoting the event and will have fliers and promotional displays at Cardiff to hand out and hopefully will have a bumper crowd in on Sunday for what is going to be a cracker of a meeting, which starts at 1pm with gates open at 11am.”
  4. WELSH OPEN LINE-UP In what is being regarded as the strongest line-up ever assembled for the Welsh Open Championship at Newport (Sunday July 11th at 1pm ), the 15 of the 16 riders taking part have now been named. Added to the list already announced –which has an enforced change with Wolverhampton’s Ty Proctor having to pull out due to a late call to ride for his Polish club – are former Newport rider Carl Wilkinson of Scunthorpe and Ipswich , Newport’s Australian prospect Mark Jones . Proctor’s absence gives the Newport promotion a late search for a replacement but they are confident of bringing in a suitable candidate. Meeting co-ordinator Laurence Rogers is pleased with the final line-up despite losing Proctor to a Polish meeting, “ We have assembled a very strong and competitive line-up for this year’s title. We had riders wanting to take part who, in the end, we could not include and must thank them for their interest in the event. “ “We have tried to get a field of racers who will entertain and I think we have achieved that and on paper this looks to be a potentially superb meeting with the 16 taking part aiming to be in the top four to make the big money final –so it’s down to them to make sure they get there and this will ensure cut and thrust action right up to an action packed heat 20.” “It is a big call for young Mark Jones in a class line-up but it will be a good indication to us as a club as to his credentials for a full Premier League team spot in 2011. He has been sensational for the Hornets in the National League and now he gets his chance to show what he can do against the big boys and he is relishing the opportunity.” “Predicting a winner out of the field is difficult as we have a whole host of riders who excel on the Newport circuit and in Ed Kennett we have the rider they will be out to beat . It should be a superb afternoon of speedway and I am sure those travelling back home from Cardiff will be tempted to call in and witness the action!” “We will open the gates at 11am with racing starting at 1pm with full bar and catering facilities available.” Welsh Open Championship 2010 1 Craig Watson Newport + Australia 2 Carl Wilkinson Scunthorpe + England 3 David Howe Scunthorpe + England 4 Jason Doyle Poole + Australia 5 Edward Kennett Coventry + England 6 Chris Slabon Poland 7 Mark Jones Newport + Australia 8 Leigh Lanham Newport + England 9 Kyle Legault Newport + Canada 10 Ben Wilson Redcar + England 11 Kevin Doolan Kings Lynn + Australia 12 Sam Masters Somerset + Australia 13 Corey Gathercole Somerset / Swindon + Australia 14 Ryan Fisher Edinburgh + USA 15 Justin Sedgmen Birmingham + Australia 16 Kenny Ingalls Workington + USA 17 Alex Davies Newport + Australia 18 Todd Kurtz Newport + Australia
  5. KENNETT , WILSON + MASTERS added to Welsh Open line-up: Coventry’s England International Edward Kennett joins Redcar’s Ben Wilson and Somerset’s exciting teenage Aussie Sam Masters in the line-up for the 2010 Welsh Open Championship at Newport on Sunday (1pm start). Kennett will start as the pre-meeting favourite for the title but will face tough opposition in what is proving to be one of the strongest line-ups assembled for the event which follows the British Grand Prix at Cardiff on the Saturday night. Wilson showed a distinct liking for the Queensway Meadow circuit with several race wins when on duty for the Redcar Bears recently whilst Masters has been getting rave reviews everywhere he goes in his debut season in the UK. It is a busy weekend for South Wales with the table-topping Newport Hornets in action on the Friday night with a 7pm start against Weymouth in the National League KO Cup , followed by the GP on Saturday at Cardiff then back to Queensway Meadows for this mouth-watering Welsh Open at lunchtime on Sunday.
  6. .....and for those wanting some methanol action after the practice just 13 miles up the road there's the table topping Newport Hornets in action v Weymouth --start time of 7pm . Adults £9, Concessions £7, Accompanied children 5-15 £1 , Under 5's free --and with a Late Bar --all very welcome!! ..and on your way home .. Sunday at 1pm The Welsh Open Championship!!
  7. Yes good luck to Ash --once he has got the bike sorted after some nightmare testing. Also hope that he managed to secure a back-up engine which up to Monday night when I saw him and Neil was still up in the air --can't believe that no one has stepped in to offer him the loan of one.
  8. apologies that full line-up not yet released but we are awaiting confirmation of one rider in particular before finalising the full 16 --but so far looks a good solid line-up. As for comments about the suggestions of running on GP morning there are several reasons this did not happen. On purely financial grounds could fans afford Friday night, Sat morning, GP Sat night and Welsh Open Sunday ??--crowd levels would have been seriously effected so on a commercial basis it was not thought to be viable. Next was the actual track preparation problems made worse by the fact that many of the Newport staff would be involved at Cardiff. Also there was the permission element to be allowed to run . So all in all despite it being a worthwhile suggestion it was a no-go from various angles. Well I'm off to get a few hours kip before getting back on the phone , finalise the line-up, sort out the draw then get details to our PRO to get the programme and press releases out
  9. Full line-up will be announced later today. Great weekend of speedway in South Wales ---Hornets v Weymouth on Friday night 7pm (with a late bar), GP Saturday then the Welsh Open at 1pm Sunday
  10. Just a reminder for those heading for Cardiff that the Newport WESSEX BUS Hornets take on Weymouth on Friday night with a 7pm start --with a late bar for those wishing to enjoy a pint or two of "Amber Nectar" or whatever. It's the start of a busy weekend of speedway in South Wales with the GP at Cardiff the next night rounded off by the Welsh Open Championship at Newport at 1pm on Sunday.
  11. Who might be then Dave ??? Spoke with him this morning and ....well wait for the next press release!! ...and me thinks young Sandie is playing you up !!
  12. I know Tanya --hence the winks and smily faces!! Press Release due out --and another postive one!! quote from philcrumpisgod : So how is the club going to do that then Laurence when there are people in the close vicinity of the speedway who have no idea that it didn't all end at Somerton Park and younger ones who have no idea what it is anyway? Forget about the world (I know that was only tongue in cheek), how about concentrating on your neighbours That is what we are planning to do mate!! Lots being sorted at the moment --as they say "watch this space!"
  13. Unfortunately that is the way the paper does it I am afraid. Unless we can get them to change their system we are stuck with it --but we will try as we want as much press coverage as possible. There are lots of positive things happening and planned at Newport that we want the world to know about!!
  14. Match reports for meetings are usually supplied to the Argus by Terry Daly who is a freelance reporter.
  15. Working on the line-up and details will start to be released soon!!
