  6. A BIG thank you to the Mildenhall promotion for agreeing to come to Newport this Saturday (August 6th) for our NL clash. With no PL opposition able to switch dates the fixture became available so Mildenhall were approached to come and agreed ... so the Hornets take centre stage on Saturday under lights with a 7pm start.
  7. Newport are at Leicester on the Sat night and home to the Lions on Fri night. IOW at home is on the Sunday
  8. Yes there will be. The Hornets fixtures are being reviewed to avoid running two meetings in two days. We will post updated list as soon as sorted.
  9. Todd with Wasps and r/r for him as he is not No. 1 in averages yet as ours have not changed.
  10. Richard Andrews is not Newport born. He's a Devon lad like Matt Bates.
  11. Due to fixture changes the scheduled NL clash between the Newport DRILLERMAN Hornets and Scunthorpe will be moved to a new date and not staged this Sunday (July 3rd). By co-incidence the previous night (Sat July 2nd) Scunthorpe do visit Newport but in a re-arranged PL meeting.
  12. He was and a big thank you to him for quickly agreeing to do it as he arrived at Newport and I pounced on him to put in the request and giving him 5 minutes to sort out what he was using!!...maximum respect to him for this from me
  13. unfortunately Marek has retired !! . He has never recovered from his bad smash at Sheffield in 2009 ....but is in the UK as a mechanic nowadays
  14. from Press Release : Welsh Open Lineup It is traditionally Newport Speedway's highest attendance of the year as fans from home and abroad round off their weekend in South Wales by attending the Welsh Open Championship with gates open at 11am and the first race at 1pm. The weekend started with a Newport Hornets v Dudley Heathens National League fixture at Queensway Meadows on Friday evening followed by the British round of the World Speedway Championship at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff on Saturday evening. Then it is the annual Welsh Open with 16 riders meeting each other once in five programmed starts over the 20 heats followed by a Grand Final for the top four scorers. In the field are several pre-meeting favourites who have stood at the top of the rostrum in major individual events at Newport including the Welsh Open. They are Kevin Doolan of Ipswich and Australia, Ryan Fisher of Coventry and the USA and David Howe of Scunthorpe and Great Britain. However, one rider who is having a sensational season is young Cornishman Ben Barker of Plymouth, Birmingham and the current Great Britain squad. Ben is a robust and exciting rider who has been on the rostrum but not on the top step and will be as keen as ever to do well. New faces to the event will be two Americans - Tyson Burmeister of Wolverhampton and Mikey Buman who was a top scorer on with a recent USA touring team and keen to put his talents in the shop window in the quest for a contract with a British club. It is also a sign of how matters have changed in the sport that there will also be a Russian on parade in the shape of Leicester's Iliya Bonderenko. USA v Russia on track! Throw into the mix such as former Premier League Riders Champion James Wright, recent track record holder Andrew Tully and rising British star Craig Cook plus Wasps Leigh Lanham, Justin Sedgmen and Mark Jones and an unpredicatble afternoon of top class racing is in store. Commented Newport General Manager Laurence Rogers who has toiled to put together an attractive field with many riders committed elsewhere: 'We have endeavoured to bring back racers who have dominated these individual events and thrown in competitors like Ben Barker who give 100% plus everytime the tapes rise on a race. To be matched in turn with class acts like James Wright and Leigh Lanham plus new faces like Tyson Burmeister and Mikey Buman. Plenty of variety and no doubt some surprises along the way.' WELSH OPEN RIDERS (In alphabetical not draw order): Ben Barker (Plymouth, Birmingham and GB), Mikey Buman (Unattached and USA), Tyson Burmeister (Wolverhampton and USA), Iliya Bonderenko (Leicester and Russia), Craig Cook (Edinburgh and GB), Kevin Doolan (Ipswich and Australia), Ryan Fisher (Coventry and USA), David Howe (Scunthorpe and GB), Mark Jones (Newport and Australia), Leigh Lanham (Newport and GB), Sam Masters (Somerset and Australia), Justin Sedgmen (Newport and Australia), Richard Sweetman (Leicester and Australia), Andrew Tully (Edinburgh and GB), Ben Wilson (Scunthorpe and GB), James Wright (Workington, Birmingham and GB).. There will be a collection for the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund during the interval and fans are invited to give generously.

  18. sorry to hear that Totti. As a speedway "nut" I like all forms of the sport whether it be an amateur meeting, NL, PL , Best Pairs, Individual ...whatever. Would think that many staying down in Cardiff after the GP will be tempted by another meeting 12 miles or so up the road on their way home. Nice leisurely breakfast then on to queensway Meadows for the 1pm start !!
  19. apologies ..I thought I would post it in the main discussions area as thought that might be seen by more people , as like Bryn got the news yesterday via Steve Magro but was in Newport so couldn't post it till today.
