  1. Matt K ,,,they called the team Dudley as it was in reality the old Cradley Heathens --with their superb support base coming out in large numbers on a Tuesday night after many years without speedway.....so not actually a clever marketing ploy as such.
  2. No Greg the training schools will continue.
  3. Quite a few fell excluded (or I should say nowadays --disqualified!!) Thanks for posting this ...was trying to get the time to do it ..but been a bit busy in other directions last few days!!
  4. Freddie did himself and his family proud. That was his first outing on the Newport track as every other training school he had booked for fell victim to the weather. Well done Freddie. Laurence Rogers
  5. Newport 50 Scunthorpe 37 . Abandoned after ht 14 due to air fence damage, Hornets : Todd Kurtz R/R ; Richard Andrews 5r 8+1; Brendan Johnson 5r 14; Matt Bates 4r 6+2; James White-Williams 5r 9+1; Dan Greenwood 5r 10+1; Freddie Owen 3r 2+1; Martin Knuckey 1r 1+1 Ross Walter 4r 4; Sam Woods 3r 0; Stefan Nielsen 4r 9+1 (in 4pt TR); Oliver Greenwood 4r 6+1; Adam Wrathall 4r 14 (inc 6pt TR); Conner Dwyer 5r 4+1; Martin Wrathall 4r 0
  6. Congratulations to Stu Parnaby , Rob Godfrey and all at Scunfield!! See you next Sunday when you close the 2011 Newport season at 6pm when they face the Hornets
  7. Is Rob still in UK Chopper ?? If so can he call me please. Sent him text but had no reply. ta mate!! Laurence
  8. I would not think so!! should be a good turn out !! The American boys are well worth watching!"!"
  9. It is the same Dan Greenwood --but much taller now than he was then!! Rode really well and his win and 5-1 with Brendan in ht 12 gave us a chance of pulling back on the Young Stars who were nine ahead at the time. Martin Knuckey will remember his NL debut and will only get better with experience. He took the number 7 slot after the training school that saw him, Josh Pickering, Rhys Hooper and Ross Walter all in contention. Heat 15 was one of the races of the season between Jay Herne and Lewis Kerr with Jay producing the pass of the season after the lead had changed hands several times. Those who stayed away missed a cracker of a meeting. Full marks to the track staff who produced a superb racing track that had previous had a four hour training school on it.
  10. I was very appreciative of what was raised ...I always am !! Point I was making is that these boys have paid out a fortune to get here to ride and that the auction goes a bit of a way to cover the costs and that traditionally we have made 100- 200 pounds per jacket. Some of what I come out with is very much tongue in cheek --in fact cheeky but it has worked at some tracks when the bidding was going slow and then took off and I was hoping for the same but on this occasion but it was not to be. Thanks to Scott Campos dad we got 50 quid in for the race jacket ..and Sandie reported a good amount in the collection bucket ---so thanks one and all!!
  11. We have done auctions in the club bars after but the results have not usually been as good as when I do them to the whole crowd. Normally the riders come out to get the crowd going gut we were told it was only a 5 min track grade and with so many problems to sort in the pits the lads did not come out. As it was there was probably only a dozen or so in the bar after anyway!
  12. Well we were battered, bruised and had a few broken bikes but what a great bunch of lads I have been given this year --our 8th tour since the initial one in 2005. Spirits were good on the mini-bus ride home last night although a few will be counting the bruises this morning as they start work on the bikes ready for tonight at Redcar . I was dropped off just after 2am so they wouldn't have hit the sack till gone 3 and were all due to be in the workshop by 9am!!
  13. NEWPORT VULTURES RACE FOR No.7 SPOT SATURDAY -----with top four from morning training school taking part !! The Newport DRILLERMAN Hornets are offering a big opportunity to any young rider without a team spot and chasing one this Saturday. In readiness for the evening clash with Kings Lynn at 7pm , the club will be staging a Saturday training school between 11 and 3 with the top four on the day being invited to take part in a series of “Vultures” races at the end of the school. This will be just a few hours prior to the National League clash with the winner taking the number seven spot in the team. Vulture Races were commonplace at some tracks many years ago giving youngsters the chance to claim a team spot but in recent years have all but disappeared. Newport co-promoter Nick Mallett is very enthusiastic about re-introducing the race-off “ We think this is a great opportunity for some British youngsters to establish themselves. No one else is offering this chance and we have decided to go down this route in the hope of unearthing some new talent for the club. It will give those attending the training school earlier in the day a goal to aim for and who knows we may find a real gem this way. There is much criticism that not enough is being done to develop and foster British youngsters but this may be a step forward.” “We expect a healthy turn out for the training school on Saturday now with this opportunity up for grabs but would like riders to book in so we know what numbers to expect. Naturally the school is open to all ages and categories of riders on 125, 250 and 500cc bikes who will all get as much track time as we can fit in.” Bookings can be made by e-mail to : laurencerogers@blueyonder.co.uk or by texting or calling Laurence Rogers on 07801429304 , Nick Mallett on 07870570880 , Del Rowe on 07796815392 or Kevin Brown on 07521338484
  14. Well they just about kept their eyes open till heat 15!! (Mike Raines and Austin came close to dropping off!!) ..and should all be tucked up in bed now getting some zzzz's before sorting the bikes tomorrow. See you at Kings Lynn (once Mr Evans sorts out my lift that is!!)
  15. Yes we must remind folk that at every USA match we get both sides to sign a USA body colour and auction it off --so start breaking open those piggy banks and get your hand ready for bidding ..as the auctioneer is a bit of a bugger at getting the highest bid he can!!
  16. I will !! Yes still on cloud 9 with Cup win --just sorry I couldn't be in two places today as had to be at Buxton with Hornets and not up at Glasgow
  17. Wasn't your dad working in Walsall for British Gas as a gas fitter / repairman a few years ago or am I mixing him up with someone else??
  18. Just had call off Steve Mallett at track and despiye some rain the tracjk is solid and the wind is dring it out quicklym he is just about to start watering and with a dry forecast the meeting is defintely ON.
  19. Had weather update that there were showers but the sun is now out in Manchester !! Hornets without Todd Kurtz ( burns to arm after crash in NLRC) with Richie Worrall guesting. Matt Bates out with a knee injury --R/R for his rides Tom Young out with strained back --local junior David Holt deputises.
  20. does he ??? I'm sure he's pleased he had the recommendation to use him!!
