It started badly with Alex Wilson and Sam Woolley both suffering engine problems in the opening heat, and although the Invaders took advantage of 14-year-old Jack Parkinson-Blackburns' 15m handicap (under the 2 min rule) in Heat 3 to pull back two points, the home side hit back with another 5-1 when Wilson fell in the following heat, and then sealed the victory in Heat 5, despite Whitehouse falling.....David Morgan leading Sam Woolley home whilst the unlucky Connor Fletcher had been forced to retire, another victim of machinery problems.

The Invaders started three of the six heats with only one rider, but with skipper Lee Geary looking somewhere near back to his best, ably supported by Alex Wilson....and, it must be said, assisted by Lightnings' Layne Cupitt suffering two falls.....the point was hard won.

CITY GEARBOXES MDLRC 2015 The line-up for the 2015 MDLRC has been confirmed. Six clubs …Peterborough, Belle Vue, Kings Lynn, Long Eaton, Scunthorpe and Coventry have two representatives in the 16 man line-up with Buxton and Wolverhampton providing the meeting reserves. The event is at Scunthorpe on Monday 31st August following the Premier League meeting. Held over 20 heats with two semi-finals and a Grand Final . With riders at this level receiving no points or travel money sponsorship has been arranged for each rider and heat (with a few heats still available at £50 per race –if interested e-mail : laurencerogers@blueyonder.co.uk or text 07801429304. This is the third staging of the event with Dan Greenwood the initial champion in 2012 followed by Shaun Tedham in 2013. There was not a MDLRC in 2014 due to unavailability of a staging track but the MDL would like to thank Rob Godfrey at Scunthorpe for stepping in to stage this year’s event and to league sponsor Gary Drinkwater of CITY GEARBOXES for backing the event. Heat one looked saw Mitchell Beckett blow his engine whilst his side were on a 3 all and the 16 year old had to rush to get his second bike , which he had never ridden before and was over geared, for his second outing. Robert Parker was in tip-top form heading hoime man Jamie Halder in heat 2 before giving Parkinson-Blackburn a hard chase in heat 3. But in heat 6 the fast starting Parker rode a superb race to hold off all the challenges of his rival before the home man’s chain came off when wheel bearings collapsed on his back wheel. With Vikings man Darroch having already retired from the race there were two finishers and the home side held on for the league points.

COVENTRY Storm have made a new signing ahead of a busy spell of National League racing in the month of August. The City Gearboxes Storm have brought in Mark Baseby to replace former skipper Luke Crang, who is taking time out of the sport. 27-year-old Baseby previously rode for Storm boss Laurence Rogers at Mildenhall, and although he has been absent from regular NL racing over the last couple of years he has remained active on the grasstrack and longtrack scene. Prior to that, he was a member of the League and Cup double-winning team for Bournemouth in 2009, and his younger brother Aaron currently races for Kent. Baseby will make his Storm debut at Stoke on Saturday and will appear at Brandon for the first time in Sunday’s double header against King’s Lynn and Stoke (2pm start). Manager Laurence Rogers said: “We had to get back to having a seven-man team as using rider-replacement was going to put a lot of strain on riders and their machinery especially in double-headers. “I’ve been looking to get someone near to Luke’s average, but it’s been a nightmare - I’ve spoken to Mark a few times and then when we were down at Eastbourne recently he was asking me if we wanted him, because he was happy to come. “I know Mark from the past and I feel I’ve always got the best out of him, and that’s one of the things he said when he had options to go elsewhere because there were other clubs after him. “Mark is coming in on a 5.67 average, but in my opinion he’s easily a seven-and-a-half to eight point rider in this league. “He just needs some laps to get himself settled in, and he’ll certainly get that with three matches in two days this week!”

BIG PLEA ! We hold the MDLRC at Scunthorpe on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August. So far we have a few sponsors for the races and riders ...but need more !! There are 20 heats ,2 semi finals and a final (sponsored kindly by Paul Cox). The heats are £50 each , the semi-finals £75 and rider sponsorship is £25. All ten MDL clubs will be represented . These riders do not get points or travel money and we have always had enough backing to give them all a voucher to spend on the spares van ....and Mr Miles who runs the van at Scunthorpe is putting together some amazing range of products for the boys to choose from. So ask around and see who might back a race or a rider please !!

There are still spaces available at the next training school / practice day at Peterborough for riders with their own equipment on Saturday 22nd August. The session starts at 10 am with sign on from 9 am with riders split into equal ability / experience groups of 3 or 4 to maximise track time for each rider.
