Exciting times for US speedway so it seems ...looking at that list for the weekend British fans will know of 4 of them from tours before as well as Ricky riding in UK plus Brad being a relation of Greg's. With these talented youngsters vying for places in the Under 21 squad for the tour and for the World Team Cup I am sure UK fans will be awaiting news of the final eight who will be racing here in late April on their way to the Ukraine. Gary Gomez is working on the fixtures for the tour and has two dates agreed with several tracks interested in having the lads race against them .....and hopefully these details will be finalised asap. ....watch this space folks!!

Having been involved with the Dream Team ( and the re-loaded version this year) since day 1 it has been a pleasure dealing with and helping the lads ( of all ages) . We have seen some raw and exciting talent on each and every tour ....some we have seen now in UK teams and some who we hopefully will see in the years to come along with some who must wish they had been able to come here a few years ago ( like Fast Eddie!!). We have entertained fans throughout the country at a variety of tracks and hopefully in whatever guise the future American team comes will continue to do so. I have had to take a more back seat role due to club and family commitments of late but hope to be involved still with any USA touring side in the years to come as well as helping and advising the lads who want to race in the UK. Rob. We had to wait to see if it was Bournemouth or Plymouth first then had to wait to agree dates with them. That done we then had to await the Dudley v Buxton semi and even then when we were both through the KO Cup Final had already been arranged. As it was the weather also took hold of the situation. As for running today we would have loved to but with the NLRC taking precendence couldn't. As I have said believe me we wanted a home leg not just an away one. Perhaps the National Trophy, if it runs in 2011, should be raced after the League has been settled and sorted ? Surely the league is the most important and paramount competition ?
-
Just to make one point with regard cut off dates and fixtures is that we at Newport actually did finish all our league fixtures before this date!
-
Well Dave you must know more than Steve and John Mallett who made the decision after walking the track this morning whilst on the phone to me and after looking at three weather forecasts. Having spent four days sorting out the guests to cover Todd and James in both legs I can assure you we DID have a team. Nick Simmons was due to guest for Todd but has been ill in bed all week and Darren Mallett arranged to have a day off work to guest for us in his place -- a BIG thank you to him and to Dale Allitt at Kings Lynn for all his help. After all did we really want to just have the league title decided on just an away leg ?? If there was any chance of running we would have and Steve rang me about 6 to say that it was raining then so the decision was the right one.

and to me!!

Unfortunately the weather has one round one of the NL play off finals and tonight's First Leg v Buxton is OFF due to a waterlogged track and forecast of more rain later.

Lee Smart was guest for missing No. 1 Todd Kurtz. Aaron Baseby and Ritchie Worrall are not in any 1-7's at the moment, Ash Birks is Scunthorpe No. 8 and allowed to guest as such. All approved by League co-ordinator.

on the back of the resounding away win in the Trophy at Weymouth can the Hornets "Select" get the better of the Trophy table toppers Buxton and gain revenge for the Hitmen's League success at Queensway Meadows? With Tim Webster, James White-Williams and Tom Young all still out injured but with skipper Tony Atkin back after his rib injuries, Aaron Baseby and Ritchie Worrall again deputise in the Hornets side as they race their first fixture under lights ...should be a cracker!!
-
Contributions kindly accepted! Well done to the guest chosen --nice to get things right on that score!! Well done to Smarty, Ash + Aaron + Ritchie !!
-
Tony will return to action on Sunday in the home NT clash with Buxton so it's R/R for him . Aaron Baseby comes in for JWW at No. 6 for the Hornets
-
Absolutely correct Dickie. This will be the Hornets first meeting under the new lights.
-
Scorers chart for Newport slightly wrong as it was R/R for Kyle Newman who was at Rye House representing Team GB u21's in World Team Cup Final (congrats to Kyle!! )and it was James White-Williams at 6 who scored 3 points in a meeting to forget for him with bike problems in heat 2 meaning he was on Tony Atkin's machine and two falls . It was a meeting Buxton won but Newport threw away. Also Tony Atkin was 11+2.
