  2. NEWPORT SPEEDWAY PRESS RELEASE : LATE CHANGE TO NEW YEAR CLASSIC LINE-UP …LEMON REPLACES WERNER The full 2012 New Year Classic line-up announced has had to be altered with one late change as comeback rider Brent Werner , who is making a track return with Plymouth for the new season , has been forced to withdraw. He will be replaced by another ex-Wasp and former team mate at Newport in Australian international Mark Lemon, the Newcastle rider. Lemon left Newport mid-way through 2009 when the Wasps made team changes and went to Newcastle where he immediately was a success as a Diamond. The addition of Lemon gives the line-up another number one rider and this pleases meeting co-ordinator Laurence Rogers, “ It is a pity that Brent has had to withdraw but it was a pure co-incidence that as we took that call we also were talking with top tuner Ashley Holloway in Poland who looks after GP star Emil Sayfutdinov . He has been working on some engine set-ups with the new silencers and Lemo will be using these at the Classic.” “Through Ashley Holloway we managed to get hold of Mark today as he was boarding a flight back from Australia via Dubai and he sent me a text confirming he would ride in the meeting.” LINE-UP (not in riding order) : Ricky Ashworth (unattached); Steve Boxall (Plymouth); Kevin Doolan (Ipswich); Andre Hertzberg (unattached); David Howe (Scunthorpe and Kings Lynn); Anders Mellgren (Newport); Chris Schramm (unattached); Lee Smart (unattched);Mark Lemon (Newcastle); Andrew Tully (Edinburgh); Carl Wilkinson (unattached); James Wright (Somerset) Monday January 2nd 2012 with a 1pm start.
  3. you are on form Semion!! replacement sorted and will be announced later.
  4. After the press release went out we have had news that Brent Werner cannot now do the meeting and we will announce his replacement hopefully tomorrow once the rider has confirmed.
  5. NEWPORT SPEEDWAY PRESS RELEASE : Final Two named for New Year Classic. The line-up for Newport’s New Year Classic on Monday January 2nd is now complete and the promotion are pleased with the field assembled for the thirteenth staging of the event and the twelfth at Newport since Tim Stone inaugurated the event in 1999. With five past winners of the Classic and five club number ones along with a field of out and out racers it augers well for an afternoon’s true entertainment and hard fought track action. The final two names are both Newport track experts in former track record holder Andrew Tully and former New Year Classic winner Brent Werner. Werner is the “Frank Sinatra” of speedway making another comeback in 2012 with Plymouth. The American ex-Wasp has an impressive record in the Classic with a win in 2006 and runner-up spots in 2000 and 2008 plus rostrum slots in 2002 and 2004. Tully, newly installed as the Edinburgh number one for the 2012 season , is the only rider born in the Isle of Man at Douglas the place famous for TT races. Commenting co-promoter Nick Mallett, “ We are really pleased with the final twelve we have chosen to ride. Unfortunately we have had to let down some riders who wanted to take part and must thank them for their interest.” “We have riders who are club number ones, past winners of not only the Classic but the Welsh Open and Prince of Wales Trophy , former track record holders, ex and current Wasps and an exciting newcomer. I can’t wait !” LINE-UP (not in riding order) : Ricky Ashworth (unattached); Steve Boxall (Plymouth); Kevin Doolan (Ipswich); Andre Hertzberg (unattached); David Howe (Scunthorpe and Kings Lynn); Anders Mellgren (Newport); Chris Schramm (unattached); Lee Smart (unattched); Andrew Tully (Edinburgh); Brent Werner (Plymouth); Carl Wilkinson (unattached); James Wright (Somerset)
  6. NEWPORT SPEEDWAY PRESS RELEASE : TWO SPOTS TO FILL IN NEW YEAR CLASSIC –NEXT TWO ANNOUNCED The Newport promotion and management have been working hard on completing the line-up for the 13th staging of the New Year Classic which takes place on Bank Holiday Monday January 2nd 2012 with a 1pm start. Already announced in a strong field are former Classic winners David Howe (2003 and 2007), Steve Boxall (2010), reigning champion Lee Smart (2011) along with multiple open meeting winner at Newport Kevin Doolan. These four were then followed by 2010 Premier League Champion Ricky Ashworth, 2007 PLRC winner James Wright and former Wasps Chris Schramm and Carl Wilkinson. These eight are joined by two young Swedes which starts to give the meeting a real cosmopolitan look . The Classic has usually featured one new rider who hankers after a chance in British Speedway and this year that spot goes to a young highly rated Swede Andreas Hertzberg from Linkopping who is 20. Recommended by the Wasps Swedish scout and friend Peter Jansson , the former National side team manager who rates the youngster. He is looking to make an impression and follow in the tyre tracks of Jonas Anderson, Kim Nilsson, Robin Aspegren and Anders Mellgren at Newport. Mellgren, who made vast strides in the latter part of the success story for the Wasps in 2011, joins the line-up alongside Hertzberg. The 19 year old formed a prolific opening partnership with Charlie Gjedde in the Newport team and has become a fan’s favourite at Queensway Meadows. With just two spots to announce the meeting organisers are going to have to let some riders who wanted to ride down, commented co-promoter Nick Mallett, “ We have a list of riders who have been in touch and ones Laurence and I have spoken to but unfortunately with the format of this meeting we only have 12 spaces available and 10 of those are now confirmed. This is the first year for a while we have had this luxury and it will be a hard decision of choosing which riders gets the final places.” “All I do know is that we have a quality field of true racers and I would not like to predict who will win this one as it is really wide open and that must be good for the fans who will be making the trip down to South Wales on January 2nd ---it should be a superb meeting. The track is looking great and we have re-laid it in readiness –so roll on the New Year!!”
  7. thanks Lewis!! Seriously e-mail me at : laurencerogers@blueyonder.co.uk and I will get Statto on the case!!
  8. blimey Najjer do you want to know everything ?? I am a mortgage broker and I arranged his mortgage --is that enough info for you ??????? again Najjer you use only my surname !! and it seems only three of you who are bothered about all this and commenting!! Oh well!!! Anyway for all those who are bothered -- next couple of names to be added on Wednesday.
  9. still talking with him Not avoided ..... I can assure you it is rider availability --- and equipment. Some riders who are in the country have not got their bikes ready or are awaiting new equipment. I spoke with Puk ( N K Iversen) earlier as he is a good friend and a client of mine and he is one definitely awaiting new equipment and would have ridden if he had them sorted. We had to await official ratification of the meeting which held things up but I had already been talking to many riders to ascertain their availability. As it is this is not a big open meeting as such . It gives those fans willing to travel in January the opportunity to watch their favourite sport in the close season. I am sorry if you think the line-up is uninspiring but many don't. It is full of true racers and many have tasted success at Newport in the past. All I know is that we will be enjoying our favourite sport on Mon Jan 2nd and undoubtedly there will be many fans from throughout the UK joining us for the occasion.
  10. we will be making an announcement later this week about the New Year Classic and the Prince of Wales Trophy that may well tie in with his posting
  11. NEWPORT SPEEDWAY PRESS RELEASE : FOUR MORE ADDED TO NEW YEAR CLASSIC LINE-UP ……and three looking for a job!! Following on from the four riders already named for the New Year Classic at Newport on Monday January 2nd, in defending champion Lee Smart, 2010 title holder Steve Boxall , double winner David Howe and multiple open meeting top man Kevin Doolan , the Newport promotion have added four more names to the line-up. Like reigning champion Lee Smart , three of this quartet are also using the meeting to put themselves in the shop window for promoters. So far without a 2012 team berth are 2010 Premier League Riders Champion Ricky Ashworth and former Wasps Carl Wilkinson and Chris Schramm. 2007 Premier league Riders Champion James Wright was waiting on news from his 2011 club Somerset who he joined mid-season after a team re-shuffle at Workington and the Rebels confirmed him as their final rider over the weekend. Ashworth is still in talk with his parent club Sheffield and may end up back with the Tigers whilst the other two are, as yet, not been snapped up. Meeting co-ordinator Laurence Rogers thinks the addition of these four makes the line-up looking interesting , “ Added in to the four named who have all tasted success around Queensway Meadows this quartet are out and out racers and all have something to prove. The ones without teams yet will want to put in a good showing to attract clubs who have not completed their line-ups . In Ashworth and Wright we also have two former Premier Rider Champions.” “We have four more spaces left to fill the line-up and Nick Mallett and I have spoken to a fair number of riders who want to do the meeting and we will make our final decisions over which four will complete the line-up soon.” “Additionally I have been talking to various speedway related business throughout the country about supporting the meeting with race sponsorships and hopefully we will get each race backed in addition to a meeting sponsor. Anyone interested in backing the meeting can e-mail me at : laurencerogers@blueyonder.co.uk.”
  12. spoke with Adam at the Dudley do on Saturday!! thanks. Kev is doing it. Others do not have bikes ready and Parks has retired of course !! I also love the keyboard critics who have never been involved in speedway and do not know what it all entails giving their viewpoints!! If you knew how much hard work goes into it all you might appreciate it more!!!
  13. yet we have a lot of people who enjoy seeing a new face and one who might soon get a UK team place. Many tracks open meetings especially near the end of the season use 'unknowns' to UK and several have gone on to get team spots. Additionally the number of riders based in the UK in January and fit and ready to ride are limited and believe me between Nick Mallett and myself we have spoken to all of them.
  14. Actually no!! Sorry Najjer amazingly you are wrong!!! So I take it you're not coming then!! So a new rider who wants to try his luck in the UK should not be given a chance ?? ..... and I love the way you just use my surname !!
  15. Next two announced as current champion Lee Smart and 2010 winner Steve Boxall
  16. Right Gary --game on!! Will talk with you soon to see what can be organised.
  17. Unfortunately the session is OFF due to track work required after the wet spell. As yet no date for next school to be run.
  18. Unlikely to be American style meetings on this tour although a second half or two is being looked at.
  19. Not what I meant ....will leave this up to Gary to comment on!!
  20. Lots of great ideas and suggestions which I am sure Gary will take on board ...here's one to throw at him..... there may be quite a few young Brits looking for team spots in 2012 and looking for a way to put themselves, so to speak, in the "shop window" for NL promoters to look at ---is there any way we could incorporate one or two of them within the tour ??? ..... over to you Gary !!
  21. All sounds good and already looking forward to it!!
  22. Shawn ...I think we own more than those three!!
