We definitely rode a second half as I remember I had to get up to the ref's box with the licences as the ref said one of them was not licensed but was only his first Christian name on licence was not the the one he rode as ..I will check back if it was 2005 or 2006 but thought it was 2005 as Mr Sandhu had sponsored the team with rooms at his hotel in Birmingham that year
-
Yes it was 2005.
-
The Midland Development League fixtures are all but arranged with dates for Coventry Mercia Vikings and Milton Keynes at Rye House awaited. Once these are confirmed I will post the full list. The bumper Speedway Star edition at the end of March will include a page on the MDL. I know that the Angian Junior League and Northern Development League are still working on their dates and are not yet available.

Good luck to Richard --may have to pop up a few Sundays to keep an eye on him.
-
great to see Leigh getting all be it a temporary berth ..great guy and a superb team man. Having known him for years and worked with him at Newport the past few years the Rockets will gain from having him in their side.

Just to add to that there is a new section on the website in the Partners section that show a design that Phil Spence at Spensites has made for kevlars for Dan plus details of the various sponsorship opportunities to back Dan ...well worth a look!!

Concern For The Future Of The National League
Main Man replied to villiers210's topic in National League Speedway
The NL is a good product and produces some great racing. Deano has a good speedway brain and knows the sport and when he finally decides to hang up his kevlars would do a good job as a team manager (no fruit gums though Dean!!) or administrator. With no Newport at any level this year unfortunately I will be hoping to fit in a fair few NL meetings --definitely the Dudley ones looking after Dan Greenwood and keeping an eye on James White-Williams ..so see you around!! -
Great news .

Great news!!!

Michael will do fine. He's a sensible lad and will learn. Have seen him improve bit by bit since he started riding and young lads like Michael , Nathan Stoneman , Josh Bates, Max Clegg etc need this opportunity ---give them a chance please!!

2011 British Under 16's Speedway 500cc Champion
Main Man replied to under16watcher's topic in National League Speedway
Superb idea --but cost is unfortunately the over-riding factor. The medical cover cost increases when you do a second half for a starter. The riders are not paid for these races but naturally do then for the experience and to put them into the eyes of promoters. I have been a strong advocate of junior racing and done what i can in that direction. This year without NL at Newport I have agreed to help out the Mercia Vikings who will race their home matches at Coventry after a successful meeting along with Kelvin Lapworth with Mick Horton and Blayne Scroggins recently. But overall the chances for young riders is very limited. Some travel to tracks in the hope of some laps after the meeting but curfews sometimes mean that these are wasted journeys and the disappointment on their faces is easy to see. More must be done --but there is no magic formula and I said cost is a major factor along with curfews etc. -
I remember Gary when he first came over ...if my memory strikes me right along with Terry Shearer and I think it was Alan Paynter ??? With Mike Parker being the promoter at Newport along with a few other clubs they all had some rides at Somerton Park with Terry becoming a Newport rider (in fact marrying a Newport girl I went to school with !!). Gary then went north to Newcastle and eventually Wolverhampton.

Hey there's a queue for that and I am sure I must be at the front by now !!!

we have an average target set up and I think I know what Dan is capable of. We had a long chat on the phone last night and he is getting things in place and needs a bit more sponsorship to get everything set up ---so please let me know if you can help !!
