Main Man replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
It was a great meeting. I must admit when I got there I was a bit worried we wouldn't get to run it but the track rode superbly (as my good friend Leigh Lanham told me it would after the PL meeting). A massive thank you to Rob and Gail Godfrey for offering us the venue and to the Scunthorpe staff for all their hard work and help. It all ran smoothly thanks to all the lads co-operating and getting out quickly as we knew the rain was due again at 7 ..and we just made it with the Final and the presentations. BIG thank you to all the race and rider sponsors who enabled us to give all 18 riders a voucher to spend on the spares van (thanks to Darren Miles for getting the goodies for the boys to buy) and give vouchers to all four finalists plus medals for all riders. Thanks to Dave Roscoe (DSR ) for supplying all 18 riders with fuel, to MICK CHAPMAN TROPHIES of Ashford, Kent for the magnificent hand carved trophies for the first three . Thanks to ex-Newport promoter NICK MALLETT for supplying and sponsoring the race jackets. League sponsor Gary Drinkwater of CITY GEARBOXES was the meeting main sponsor underwriting all the staging costs. Congratulations to the 2015 MDL Champion Jack Parkinson-Blackburn along with 2nd placed Layne Cupitt, 3rd Callum Walker with commiserations to Alex Wilson who shed a chain causing him to fall in the Final. Birmingham No. 8 Robert Parker, who crashed out in a simple fall at Coventry in an MDL meeting on Friday is out for the rest of the season. Initial diagnosis was a dislocated thumb and a possible broken scaphoid bone in the wrist . X-rays did not confirm this due to the swelling but the 19 year old, who was due to represent Coventry in the MDLRC at Scunthorpe next Monday, went for further examinations on Monday. The long bone in his right thumb, the metacarpal has snapped and it is not a clean break and there is tendon damage. He underwent an operation on Tuesday which ends his 2015 season. Coventry are permitted to name a replacement for Parker for the MDLRC.

Saturday 22nd August 2015 Beaumont Park, Leicester MDL Long Eaton Invaders 19 Buxton Jnr Hitmen 15 Invaders 1. Layne Cupitt F,3,2 = 5 2. Rob Watts 2,2*,3 = 7+1 3. Lee Geary 3,3,1* = 7+1 4. NO RIDER Junior Hitmen 1. Adam Kirby 3,FX, 3 = 6 2. Stephen Whitehouse 1,2, 1* = 4+1 3. NO RIDER 4. Sam Woolley 2,1,2 = 5 H1 Kirby, Watts, Whitehouse (Cupitt fell) 2-4 / 2-4 70.93 H2 Geary. Woolley (two riders only) 3-2 / 5-6 72.68 H3 Cupitt, Watts, Woolley, (3 riders only) 5-1 / 10-7 71.50 H4 Geary, Whitehouse (Kirby fell, exc) (3 riders only) 3-2 / 13-9 AWARDED H5 Watts, Woolley, Whitehouse (3 riders only) 3-3 / 16-12 73.88 H6 Kirby, Cupitt, Geary (3 riders only) 3-3 / 19-15 71.87 With Buxton denied the services of John Gaskell and Robert Parker at short notice, it was necessary to run with just 3 riders each in order to get the match on. Therefore Adam Kirby...who had been due to ride #3 for Long Eaton...switched sides and wore the #1 jacket for the Junior Hitmen. The team numbering was adjusted to even up the rider advantages across the 6 heats. The racing was fairly even. Layne Cupitt fell while leading Heat 1, and Adam Kirby fell while leading Heat 4...and it was the pairing of Cupitt and Watts taking a 5-1 against Sam Woolley in Heat 3 which proved the difference. Then Rob Watts' win in Heat 5 against the Buxton pairing of Whitehouse and Woolley maintained the 3 point lead for the Invaders, and sealed their victory, with Adam Kirby having to ride solo against Cupitt and Geary in the final heat. Well done to all 6 riders for serving up competitive racing under the circumstances.
