Chris Harris Testimonial ?

Highly Successful Staging Of Testimonial 22 March 2016 Well the sun shone, the turnstiles clicked with a big crowd in Brandon, and the meeting was run very slickly, the auction saw some big bids and everyone went home happy at Bomber’s Big Bang on Sunday. So much hard work had gone into the event and it all proved worthwhile in the end . 12 months after the rain had caused the staging of the event to be called off. A year later all the elements were in Chris’s favour with a better line-up , good weather and a good turn out from sponsors and fans alike. Out on track the proceedings started with 6 Young Lions races at 500, 250 and 125cc levels and the kids were given a rousing reception after their races. After the parade Chris zoomed up into the referee’s box to start heat one which had two re-starts after the tapes were broken first time out then, as if planned by the riders to play Chris up , no one dropped their clutch when the tapes rose !! The races had no real delays with riders out for the next heat straight away as soon as the last race finished ….which was much appreciated by the large crowd. The Young Lions had their final races in each section after the interval with the crowd giving all 12 of them deserved applause as they rode back to the pits It was then back to the main event with some cracking racing with the Nikki Pedersen races with Ed Kennett and Craig Cook superb action . The lads then raced off in four finals with the D final won by Kenneth Hansen , Richie Worrall taking the C Final, Andreas Jonsson the B Final and the A final honours went to Jason Doyle ahead of Nikki P, Rory Schlein and Scott Nicholls. Kryzysztof Kasprazak took the fastest time award whilst Jason Doyle was voted by the sponsors as Rider of the meeting. After the presentations the proceedings moved to the understand bar for the auction where the body colours, three programmes signed by all the riders, an old race suit and helmet of Bombers were auctioned off with some amazing bidding on some items. Chris reflected on a great day, “ I can’t thank everyone enough for making my big day such a success. All the riders were magnificent and put on a great show. The sponsors were unbelievable and the fans turned out in big numbers with the sun shining all afternoon. “ “My testimonial committee all did a first class job and put in so much hard work on my behalf and I must thank them all . My fiancée Emma-Louise was unbelievable –a true work machine and without her this would never have happened.” “Thank you one and all!” -

If it does become a SKY match I will have to move date as normally they do not like 2nd halves .....which is a pity ! Coventry fan’s favourite JASON GARRITY has been added to the impressive line-up for the Chris Harris Testimonial at Brandon on Sunday March 20th . The popular Mancunian has made the big step up into the main body of the Bees side for the forthcoming season as well as returning to double-up with Premier League side Sheffield. He joined the Tigers mid-way through the 2015 season after electing initially to forgo the Premier League leaving Rye House to concentrate on his Elite League racing. He was an instant success at Sheffield and finished top of their averages in 2015 with a 8. 46 figure scoring 201 points in 20 matches. Started riding in 2009 joining Buxton after becoming the British Under 15 Champion in 2008 and won the league title with the Hitmen the following season. Was British under 19 Champ in 2011 and also won the National League Rider’s Champion the same year. Now in his third season at Coventry he really wanted to ride in the meeting , he said, “ Chris has done so much to help me and has been a great skipper. When I got back from my holiday in Australia I was straight on the phone asking to be included .” Chris commented , “ How could I not include Jase. He is such a character and the fans love him.” Exciting young Aussie Max Fricke, who impressed one and all at Brandon in the Play-offs in 2014 in Bees colours as a guest, joins a star studded line-up for the Chris Harris Testimonial on Sunday March 20th. The Belle Vue rider , three times Australian Under 21 Champion in 2013-15, first came to the UK in 2013 spending two seasons with the Monarchs taking a league winners medal in 2014 and also was one half the Premier League Pairs winners that same year. The 19 year old is highly rated and will undoubtedly be a spoiler in the meeting which promises to be a humdinger looking at the line-up so far. Chris believes that it will be a meeting not to miss, “ I can’t believe at the response from the lads who have agreed to ride, the line-up is looking very juicy! Adding Max to it is another good capture as the lad rides Coventry so well .” -

Another Coventry icon has joined the impressive line-up for the Chris Harris Testimonial at Brandon with the latest capture being the ever popular SCOTT NICHOLLS. Scott’s time as Bee alongside Bomber has seen many successes and countless 5-1 heat wins . The seven times British Champion has had many classic battles with Chris when racing in the colours of Swindon and his current club Belle Vue . He is now also carving a career outside riding with his expert analysis and interviewing on Sky and Euro Sport but still a force to be reckoned with on his bike at the top level of the sport. Chris is pleased his former team mate is riding in his meeting, “ Scott and I have always had a friendly rivalry even when team mates but we both have immense respect for each other and I am happy he can do my meeting on Sunday March 20th with a line-up that is second to none.” -

With six of the sixteen riders named for the BOMBER BIG BANG meeting at Brandon on Sunday March 20th , Chris reached the half-way point by adding 2016 team mates James Sarjeant and newcomer Kacper Woryna to the line-up. Sarjeant is in his third season in the Bees side having been picked as one of their Elite league draft system riders in 2014. He has been a Coventry asset since 2009 but did not appear in the club colours until he joined Coventry Storm in 2013. He won the New Zealand Solo Championship in January 2015 and he is looking to get some pre-season action in February riding in America. Woryna is the Bees latest capture on the recommendation of skipper Harris who rode with the 19 year old at Rybnik in the Polish league last year. He was runner-up in the Polish Youth Championship in 2015 and graduated from 80cc racing where he was 2011 Polish Individual Champion. He is highly regarded and has a reputation as a showman already. He has had two spells in Bees colours in 1998-99 and 2001-2005. The three times Swedish Champion has been a Grand Prix regular and was World No. 2 in 2011 winning three rounds in that series. most, if not all , clubs hope to use as near to a squad as possible but this is not always possible for a variety of reasons. The regionalisation is to help reduce outgoings for the lads and dads (and mums etc!) as these riders receive no travel or points money at all. Riders will still appear for more than one team but not as much and I have had several new names to add to the MDL database plus some teams already have some new names for 2016

City Gearboxes MDL 2016 The CITY GEARBOXES sponsored Midland Development League held a highly successful AGM at the BSPA offices in Rugby on Wednesday. The 2016 season looks to be an exciting one as the league takes on a completely new format incorporating two separate league set-ups culminating in a Grand Final at the end of the season. Eight clubs will come to the line in 2016 with three clubs not entering sides in Wolverhampton, Stoke and Peterborough –although Milton Keynes will race their fixtures at the Showground. They raced at Mildenhall last year but the Fen Tigers will be having their own side at West Row in 2016. The league split sees the clubs meet each other in their section twice home and away with the table topping side in each mini-league at the cut -off point fighting it out to be crowned the 2016 MDL champions . The leagues have in section 1: Belle Vue, Buxton, Scunthorpe and Long Eaton; section 2 : Mildenhall, Kings Lynn, Milton Keynes and Coventry. The MDLRC will again be staged at Scunthorpe after last year’s successful event with Bank Holiday Monday August 29th pencilled in for the prestigious league event. Joint co-ordinator Dale Allitt saw the meeting as being a success, “There was a lot of constructive talk from all parties and the spirit of co-operation in ensuring the MDL continues to grow was very evident. We voted in several important changes that need ratifying but it was all very positive from one and all.” Fellow joint co-ordinator Laurence Rogers agreed wholeheartedly with this, “ it was one of the most constructive meetings I have ever been at. The split into two sections was unanimously agreed and will be good for one and all. We have some ideas as to what each section of the league might be called but need to run these past the BSPA and SCB. It all looks very exciting .”

TREBLE World Champion Nicki Pedersen is the first rider to be confirmed for Chris Harris’s Testimonial meeting at Brandon on Sunday March 20. The Danish superstar has not raced regularly in the UK since 2011 when he lined up in the Elite League for Peterborough. But he remains one of the biggest draw-cards in speedway with 16 Grand Prix wins to his name, overall podium finishes in three of the last four years, and a no-holds-barred approach to racing which undoubtedly boosts attendance figures wherever he appears. The 38-year-old made his Elite League debut with Wolverhampton back in 1999, and secured the sport’s top honour in 2003, 2007 and 2008. Harris is celebrating over a decade of service to the Buildbase Bees, and to British Speedway in general with his benefit meeting, which is expected to attract a bumper attendance to Brandon. The Coventry skipper is working on putting together the line-up for what promises to be a packed afternoon of racing with the main event being an Individual meeting featuring 16 riders and based on the ‘old’ Grand Prix format - with the regular 20 heats followed by D, C, B and A Finals. Harris said: “Nicki is one of the real characters of the sport and the fans in this country don’t get the chance to see him race here too often, so it’s great to have him for my meeting. “I’m sure he’ll be determined to come and put on a good show, and my thanks to him for taking the booking. It’s an excellent start to the line-up. “We want to make it an enjoyable day for everyone and I know the fans want to watch speedway, so the plan is to give them plenty of racing and I hope they’ll be pleased with what we come up with.” Gates open at midday on Sunday March 20, with the first race at 2pm. Further names for the meeting will be announced soon.
