They had two unbeaten riders in David Holt and skipper Lee Geary and they scored all but three of their team total. Stoke were under strength and gave debuts to Tom Sipos and Paul Bowen. Number 1 Adam Sheppard’s afternoon last just two laps when he seized the engine he had borrowed off his mechanic after suffering bike troubles on Friday at Coventry and again last night at Leicester. Home rider Sam Ward was left to ride a solo four laps in heat 5 after partner Bowen had fallen in the original staging then Long Eaton pair Sam Darroch and Cam Hoskins hit bike troubles. Ward’s bike hit problems but the local lad somehow nursed it home for the win.

Long Eaton Invaders 21 MK Knights 15 MDL Beaumont Park, Leicester 21st June 2014 Long Eaton finally ended their run of defeats with a comprehensive victory over MDL leaders MK Knights. The match was effectively won inside the first three heats as the Invaders chalked up a trio of 5-1s and although the Knights recovered to make a fight of it, the 12-point deficit proved too much to pull back. Their win could have been more emphatic but for two falls for Jason Garrad in heat 3 and Adam Sheppard in heat 4 when the Vikings were on maximum 5-1 heat wins! The match started though in the worst possible way when Vikings skipper John Markham was sent head first into the fence after Spitfires No. 1 Alex Wilson dived under him after picking up drive and straightening up. Markham was knocked out with his helmet completely cracked and was taken to the local hospital where thankfully only a concussion was diagnosed and a shoulder injury the only outcome. Garrad’s fall robbed him of a full 12 point maximum with the newcomer remounting and catching and passing Sam Darroch for a third place. For the Spitfires Sam Ward started in fine style with a fine win over Conor Dwyer whilst Kelsey Dugard , son of former England star Martin, improving with every ride and in heat 6 stalked Adam Sheppard for four laps before pipping him on the line. After a major crash in heat 9 of the main meeting there was a long delay whilst the riders were examined meaning the 2nd half ran late. This was very frustrating for riders and management after the previous week’s problems. The Colts tracked local lad Conor Dwyer as a replacement for Michael Neale and the Vikings squad member on his return from injury was unbeaten in his three rides! That just about rubbed salt in the wound with the home side hitting all sorts of gremlins and problems. Number one Ryan Terry-Daley , usually unbeatable at this level, tried a different bike out in his first ride before having problems on his usual machine in his second outing. Adam Sheppard fell in heat 2 whilst holding second spot and skipper John markham hit mechanical gremlins all night. Debutant Jason Garrad bounced back from a last place first time out to hold off MDLRC reigning champion Shaun Tedham in heat 3 with an impressive ride from the former moto-crosser in just his ninth time on a speedway bike! Sam Ward was forced out of the clash with a blown engine leaving Belle Vue utilising rider-replacement for him and with their top three on form this boosted them as the home side just had no answer to the Colts.

Coventry V Castleford 6th June
Main Man replied to Main Man's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
Not sure if both 2nd halves at Sheffield were called off with teams having travelled there or not and main meetings had taken place ? -
Under the 2014 ruling regarding postponed meetings Castleford Kings have been awarded the two Midland Development League points after the late cancellation of their fixture at Coventry last Friday. The Kings had previously had a wasted journey when rain washed out the fixture on Bank Holiday Monday May 5th after the Bees clash with Lakeside. This call off though came after a delayed start to the Bees clash with Wolverhampton after the M6 was closed and other traffic problems in surrounding areas. With a storm due at midnight and with stock cars the following day with the fence having to come down and track prepared the Stadium decreed that the second half was to be cancelled. The Coventry promotion tried to request a curtailed four heat match from which a result could be called but this plea was rejected. Castleford have rightly requested the awarding of the league points with Mercia-Vikings team boss Laurence Rogers not opposing this , “ I fully understand what Peter Hibberd has requested and although it means less important track time for the youngsters I have agreed to concede the points. These boys do not get travel or points money and come from far and near at their own expense. It is not ideal but it is what is in the rules.” Dale Allitt , joint co-ordinator of the League commented , “ Castleford were within their rights enforcing this rule and based on the calculations of fuel used on both occasions I can fully understand their stance. As such Castleford will be credited two points in the MDL table.”

The Colts were forced to use the Rider Replacement facility for David Holt who had a badly swollen hand, courtesy of a non-speedway accident at home earlier in the day. MIchael Neale won heat one followed home by Andy Mellish (taking Holt's ride), and the Colts took a second 5-1 when Mellish followed home Rob Shuttleworth in the next. Tom Bacon was a faller whilst placed third, and although he got up and cleared the track to allow the race to continue, he then took an ambulance ride back to the pits with a twisted knee. Sam Darroch replaced Bacon in heat 3, whilst Shuttleworth took Holt's ride and followed home Neale for a 5-1 win in the fastest time of the night. Heat 4 provided the race of the night. Whilst Shuttleworth took a comfortable win, Mellish and Wilson passed and re-passed each other on every bend until the Sheffield rider made the final pass off the last bend to take a hard earned 2 points. Michael Neale was a faller whilst leading heat 5, but team mate Mellish went on to win the race again being pushed all the way by Wilson. The Colts finished with a 5-1 in heat 6, with Bacon thankfully able to take his place and score a point after receiving treatment to his knee.
