Having already had five rides apiece in the preceding National League clash Martin Knuckey and Ryan Terry-Daley formed a powerful partnership for the Vikings. They took the first heat with a maximum 5-1 win to set their side off in fine style. The home side bounced back with two 4-2 heat wins with Adam Sheppard suffering bike troubles on a new bike he had just bought. Heat 3 saw a classic battle between Conor Dwyer and home No. 1 Adam Kirby with Dwyer losing shape on the last bend and the race to the line say the duo side by side with the verdict going the way of the home rider. This levelled the scores at 9 apiece. Then in heat 4 the Knuckey and Terry-Daley partnership were on another 5-1 before Knuckey hit the deck on the pits turn . The Kings Lynn pair missed him but his bike was hit by the following machine and suffered extensive damage to the engine plates with oil spilling out forcing Knuckey out of the meeting. Terry-Daley won both heats 4 and 5 with Sheppard notching a vital third in the penultimate heat to put his side two points ahead . Terry-Daley came in for Knuckey for his ninth ride of the night! Kirby led the race whilst Kinsley took advantage of a mistake by Dwyer who was in third spot behind a tiring Terry-Daley and it looked like being a draw but Kinsley came down and was excluded and the race was awarded as a drawn heat giving the two league points to the CITY GEARBOXES Vikings. This moves them into a spot where it is all very tight for qualification for the play off finals at the end of the season so there is plenty for them to aim at. The Vikings are in action at Stoke on Saturday night taking a 12 point lead with them in the MDL KO Cup with a semi-final against Sheffield as the prize for the overall victors. Buxton’s Adam Extance comes in as a guest for the Vikings with Martin Knuckey unavailable along with Conor Dwyer and Adam Sheppard.

  11. SHEFFIELD TIGER CUBS 9 RYE HOUSE RAIDERS 27 In a one-sided affair Rye House ran out comfortable winners over the Cubs with all the Raiders scoring freely. Paid maximums for Layne Cupitt and Andy Blackburn and might have been a full set for Danny Ayres had he not suffered machine problems in Heat 1, while Rob Watts dropped his only point to Sam Darroch in the same heat. For the Cubs Sam Darroch raced to his first MDL race win in that opening heat, made more special in that it was Sam's first visit to Sheffield. Sean Phillips made his come-back from injury and considering he was effectively only just starting his season he improved greatly with each race, beginning to relax and gain confidence as the night went on. Bradley Seal was unlucky when his front wheel washed out in his opening ride and he was then ruled out of the rest of the meeting by the medics, while Dan Miles struggled to find the right set up. Nevertheless, good experience for everyone involved. 17. Buxton v Coventry NL KO Cup COVENTRY Storm launch their Knockout Cup campaign with a first leg tie at Buxton on Sunday (3pm). The City Gearboxes Storm travel to the Hi-Edge Raceway knowing a semi-final clash with Cradley awaits the aggregate winners, and will be hopeful of bringing a positive scoreline back from the Peak District for the second leg, for which a date has yet to be confirmed. The Storm have not raced as a team since June 2, and even then they were heavily depleted for the National League trip to Kent. They are much closer to full strength for this encounter, although Stefan Nielsen has once again been ruled out following his crash at Brandon just over a fortnight ago, and the rider-replacement facility will therefore be in operation. Buxton, who have only raced one home meeting so far this season, are led by veteran Tony Atkin and promising teenager Liam Carr. Storm boss Laurence Rogers said: “We want to go there and bring a lead back to Brandon. It’s very important for us to get through this round, especially as it would mean another meeting with Cradley!” BUXTON (from): Tony Atkin, Ryan Blacklock, Liam Carr, Adam Extance, Stefan Farnaby, Sean Phillips, Tom Woolley. COVENTRY (from): Luke Crang, Dan Greenwood, Oliver Greenwood, Martin Knuckey, Stefan Nielsen R/R, James Sarjeant, Ryan Terry-Daley.

  20. MDL The recent Midland Development League clash between Kings Lynn Lightning and Milton Keynes Knights has been declared null and void. A four rider crash in heat 4 saw the meeting abandoned but the race was not awarded as initially reported. Therefore as per MDL regulations the points cannot be awarded as the meeting had not reached a result in the fourth heat. This is the ruling of the SCB based on the referee’s report. The clash will now be re-run and the MDL table has been amended accordingly to reflect this .
  21. Great pair of lads with a wonderful and supportive family. They gave up a week to be on the speedway display at the NEC motor cycle show and each week do a meet and greet the fans with their bikes at Coventry and Leicester. At Coventry they have races when we have MDL fixtures along with Kyle Roberts, Sam Wright and Stephen Whitehouse and also now get rides at Leicester when Long Eaton have their MDL matches. Both are mascots at Coventry and Leicester.
