  1. Three more pretty obscure ones were: Wieslaw Patynek Ernst Bogh Heinrich Sprenger
  2. Swindon signed him in 1983 but he had a car accident before joining and never rode. Given his record at Leicester and Hackney, he would have fitted well into our team that season!!
  3. Bit of a cheat really as he rode for Sheffield in 1993, so not in the period mentioned initially. He was pretty pants though... I always had a soft spot for Eastbourne in their early BL days as they had a conveyer-belt of untried foreigners in that period.
  4. The less than adequate foreign riders were one of my favourite parts of the sport back then. The onset of the Internet etc has sadly taken that mystique away. A few beauts to be going on with are: Hans Albert Klinge Flemming Rasmussen Trond Skretting Allan Fog Lennart Bengtsson Henk Steman Helge Langli Eddie Davidsson Piet Seur Patrice Blondy Stefan Deser Peo Gudmundsson Lars Eriksson Peter Wurterle Max Schollhorn Jurgen Hehlert Stein Roar Pedersen
  5. Would that have been in 1986? http://wwosbackup.proboards.com/thread/10705/17th-1986 That was a Sunday meeting...
  6. It encapsulated so much that is wrong with British Speedway promotion. He is so far out of kilter with the the majority of issues and many of his comments were simply insular and far removed from the perspective of the sport as a whole. Based on that article, the tunnel is well and truly bricked up with not a glimmer of light to be seen!
  7. I think I'm right in saying Jensen's only point came from a Richard Hellsen engine failure. Christophe Cayre of Isle Of Wight takes that accolade for me I think.
  8. I think Claes Jensen of Poole has the record nailed for beating fewest riders, Steve. Raba was actually leading heat 8 by some distance at Bristol, before inexplicably falling off all on his own.... And I reckon he "beat" two - we can't underplay his contribution!
  9. Raba's Swindon record is: 3 Challenge Matches: 1+1 from 4 home v Reading 1+1 from 4 at Bristol 1 from 3 home v Bristol 5 League Matches: 0 from 3 at King's Lynn 0 from 2 at Wolves 0 from 1 home v Leicester 0 from 2 at Ipswich 0 from 3 at Poole
  10. Reading and Bristol were Challenge Matches. His only home league meeting was against Leicester and he scored 0 from 1 ride. His league record was: 5-11-0-0-0.00
  11. He did have a shocker in his only meeting for Swindon against Eastbourne. Martin Yeates wasn't particularly polite about him when he got dropped. Two sides to every story I guess....
  12. Not sure exactly, but he only had one ride at home in his 5 official matches. Went on to be one of Kolejarz Opole's greatest ever riders and finished 2nd iin a Polish Championship as well as his WTC Final appearance. Could have done ok for us, given time.
  13. Frank Richt kicked right off at me about that!
  14. Tomasz Gollob Leonard Raba Jerzy Trzeszkowski Henryk Glucklich Zenon Plech Boleslaw Proch Krzysztof Ciegelski Jerzy Rembas Grzegorz Szczepanik Jan Puk
  15. As the adverts are on during The Chase, I'll have a go... Leigh Adams Phil Crump Martin Ashby Ed Stangeland Brian Leonard Leonard Raba Milan Spinka Shawn McConnell Andrew Silver Renat Gafurov Alf Busk Bo Petersen Norman Hunter Per Sorensen Edit - forgot Brian Karger....sorry Per, you're dropped to the bench....
  16. 1974 was the first year I went and 1984 was the last year of the top league having a decent number of teams in it. 2000-2006 was an era where my enthusiasm was re-ignited by Swindon's Premier League side and the return to the Elite. I put some money into the club in 2006 and felt it was taken for granted - as a result my enthusiasm has waned every season until now where it's non-existent.

  18. Not a big fan of Aussies generally speaking, but here goes... P.Crump L.Adams

  20. Jeez I must be bored.... In no particular order: McConnell Gresham Sigalos Cook Penhall Autrey Columbo Nutter B.Bast Ott

  23. Thanks, appreciate that. I would readily admit that I do have a generally dim view of the modern speedway rider and have a strong belief that their selfishness and expectation that they can be professional at a relatively low level, have gone a long way to help create the mess the sport is in the UK right now. To be fair that probably means I read most rider comments through those eyes, and did so here. I guess I thought Kyle, if anyone, would have expressed more of a concern on the loss of his local club and the impact that would have on the local community. Riders need to start looking at the bigger picture, and can't expect to make a living from speedway alone whilst clubs stretch themselves to breaking point.
