Thanks also to iris123 who gave me second half details of four Wimbledon home meetings.
-
Web page has now been updated. Many thanks once again Derek, for the information.
-
I didn't that you were Derek Barclay the former Wimbledon programme editor. Do you want me to use your proper name or the Parsloes name on my site?
-
Many many thanks Parsloes 1928 nearly for the info, will put on website and give you a mention as promised. Brendan's name always strange spellings, at some tracks. Shame that he retired early in his career.

Tony Could you do an item on the cameramen of speedway, the people who bring our sport to life, with their excellent pictures (Wood-Wright, Alf Weedon, Mike Patrick, Trevor Meeks, etc). And also how technology has changed the way speedway pictures are now taken, over previous years.
-
Thanks Tony & Suzy, another excellent magazine
-
I do remember the TV cameras being there, with their big Ooutside Broadcast trucks outside the stadium. The meeting was shown on ITV's 'World of Sport' the following Saturday afternoon.

Many thanks for looking for the programme for me, Parsloes 1928 nearly.

It would be great to a test series again , against any nation, speedway could do with it. But with the GP series now so long nowadays, I doubt it will ever happen again, mores the pity .

Thursday 1 May 1980 Wimbledon, the very first test match between England and the USA, it ended up 54-54, brilliant racing all the way through the meeting. England 54 Chris Morton 12, John Louis 11, Peter Collins 11, Michael Lee 9, John Davis 7, Malcolm Simmons 4, Kenny Carter (res) 0, Les Collins (res) 0 USA 54 Scott Autrey 15, Bruce Penhall13, Bobby chwartz 8, Ronnie Preston 8, Dennis Sigalos 7, Steve Gresham 3, John Cook (res) & Larry Kosta (res) did not ride A fair result, as much as I wanted England to win, speedway was the winner that day. I was at the meeting on the 3rd & 4th bends in the wooden boxes on the stairs, with my Union Jack (couldn't get a Cross of St.George anywhere) Test series sponsored by 'Durex'. Shame ITV don't repeat the meeting.

Glad that you like my website, and for your kind words, Lejon. Did take a bit of work, but well worth the effort. I will be expanding the site, by putting loads more result details about 1976, once I have finshed doing the current pages. Robbie B

Hi everyone on the forum. I have nearly completed a Wimbledon speedway website, deicated to my first season as a speedway supporter, in 1976. I have put loads of stuff on there, for everyone too see, including a special five-page tribute to Tommy Jansson. But I still require scans, if anyone got them of the following speedaway programmes; 1973 & 1975 World Pairs Finals, and the 1976 World Longtrack Final. Please send any items to robert.browne@hotmail.co.uk undefined The website address is www.wimbledonspeedway1976.com Visit My Website Hope you like it. Please leave any comments on the forum here, of what you think of it.

Roger is a true Legend of Wimbledon speedway, giving many years of great service, to the club. I still remember his great cut-backs on the 3rd-4th bends, of the last lap of the race, he caught out many a great rider, including Ole Olsen.
-
I like to ask Briggo what period in his speedway career did he enjoy riding in the most, the 50s, 60s or 70s. Also I remember his brilliant piece of action at Wimbledon, on the 19th August 1976, when Mike Curoso fell in front of him going round the 1st & 2nd bends, in the second half, and somehow Briggo managed to not only lay his bike down, but also lift his front wheel over Mike's crash helmet at the same time, thus avoiding a more serious accident. It said in the following week Wimbledon programme, that Mike Curoso helmet had tyre marks on, I dread to think what might had happened if Briggo never managed to lift his front wheel in time. The best bit of speedway riding skill I've ever seen. Briggo is a true Wimbledon and speedway legend.

Why is it , that in this years GP series Poland, Sweden and now Denmark get two GP's, yet in Great Britain we always only have one ? -

Mike, glad that you won the eBay auction for the Speedway Stars. You'll find that in the Swden vs U.S.S.R. match some heat details are wrong, with regards Tommy Jansson's races. These are the correct details. Friday 29 June (Daily Mirror International Tournament) (Hackney) Sweden 49 Bengt Jansson 12, Anders Michanek 12, Bernt Persson 7, Christer Sjosten 7, Tommy Jansson 5, Christer Lofqvist 5, Olle Nygren 1 U.S.S.R. 29 Vladimir Gordeev 13, Anatoli Kuzmin 5, Vladimir Zaplechny 5, Oleg Dzjadick 3, Gregori Chlinovsky 3, Aleksander Pavlov 0, Georgi Ivanov 0 Heat 3 Dzjadick, T.Jansson, Persson, Zaplechny (ef) 66.6 Heat 5 Persson, Kuzmin, T.Jansson, Gordeev (I don't have time for this heat - someone on forum might) Heat 9 Gordeev, Persson, T.Jansson, Ivanov 66.0 Heat 12 B.Jansson, Zaplechny, T.Jansson, Ivanov 66.8 Cearns & Carol Hawkins in the back of my mind somewhere, just won't come too me. They could do with a tournament like this on national TV now, such a great shame that it won't happen.

Wild Cards For 09
Robbie B replied to beesbarmyarmy's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Really they should scrap the GP nominations, and bring back the GP Challenge Round (they have one for the World Longtrack GP Championship). The bottom eight riders from the GP series, then race against the top eight from the GP Final qualifier, with the top eight riders into the GP series next season (no Wildcards). All this nonsense that a certain number of riders from each country must in the GP's, makes a mockery of it. If your good enough to qualify, then you should be in the GP's, if your not, then you should try again next year. -
In the Final, the number 8s for England & Sweden were Dave Jessup & Bengt Larsson, both riders did not get a ride though.
-

Wild Cards For 09
Robbie B replied to beesbarmyarmy's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Nicholls, Lindgren, Holder and Sajfutdinov, will be the four nominated GP riders. But scrap the 'Wildcard' and add another rider instead. Wildcards have been a complete waste of time this year. It's better to have 16 riders competing for the World Championship. Then you could add Chris Harris or Pavlic instead. -
Can anyone inform me of the dates that the 1970 Young England Vs Young Sweden test series took place. Thanks for any help in advance.
