Rules For World Cup ?
Robbie B replied to tony159's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Totally agree with you Ghostwalker about the Joker, they should scrap it. It's completley unfair to the leading team (whoever they maybe), as they cannot have a rider that can may score double points. Either let ALL teams have a Joker or get rid of it. Has Smederna folded, I heard that they had money problems. We Wimbledon supporters have a great love for Smederna, it would be a crying shame to see them disappear from Swedish speedway scene. Come on you Brits -
Jimmy Squibb, 40 years might well have the londest racing career. I haven't had time to read my 'Classic Speedway' mag yet, I know there's a article about him in the lastest edition. World Cup week 'BACK THE BRITS'
-
You're right there iris123, maybe we should only count riders who rode in more then a special one meeting, to find out who had the longest riding career.
-
Great call frenchy. Briggo, must had rode in New Zealand before coming to Great Britain, how long I don't know. 42 years is now the longest period of a racing career, so far.
-
We may well have leader for the length of racing career here, in Mike Tams. That's 39 years for Mr Tams.
-
Ross retired from racing though he returned, so he may have the longest span of a career but not the most seasons. I doubt also that Larry Ross has ridden for the most seasons, but he may have had the longest career, so far.
-
Good call but 1928 - 1963 is only 35 years, Ross has been going for 37 and counting.
-
Does anyone know what speedway rider has had the longest riding career. Just to get things off and running, I nominate Larry Ross. Even though everyone knows that he started riding for Wimbledon in 1975, I do have a speedway book called ‘speedway 72’ that mentions his name, as an up-and-coming rider. Considering that he is still riding in New Zealand, that’s 37 years of racing. Can anyone beat this. Surely the most knowledgeable members of the forum, might know better.

Norbold, Briggo rode for Hull in 1976
-
Neil Street & Phil Crump both rode for Newport in 1976, and Gordon did race against both of these riders.
-
Ivan Mauger started at Wimbledon in 1957 raced until 1986 in the UK. Or maybe Barry Briggs.

The large trophy was the Laurels, it would be intresting to find out what happened to that, and other trophies that were at Plough Lane.

So that's why there were two winners in 1946. Do you require the Spring Classic and Internationale winners as well?
