  1. Yes Steve, rider control was scrapped at the end of the 1976 league season. The Ole Olsen saga, didn't help matters, before the 1976 league season started. He was allocated to ride for Hull, but he refused to ride for them, as he only wanted to ride, for Coventry. If I remember right, at the start of the 1977 league season British League teams were given a 50 point rider limit.
  2. Hi Tony I hope that you don't mnd me saying Christer Lofqvist died, on 1 February 1978. He was also allocated to ride for Wimbledon in 1976, by rider control, but Wimbledon couldn't agree terms, with him.
  3. But Aub Lawson did qualify for the 1939 World Final.
  4. Totally agree with you Norbold, I would have loved too see these pre-war stars, in action, shame that I wasn't born, at the time. Without these riders we wouldn't have speedway today. From my own time Wimbledon Vs Hackney was always brilliant for me, as my brother was a Hawk surporter, it always made it, extra special.
  5. According to the 1977 Speedway Yearbook, Tony, was born on 26 Dececember 1942.
  6. It's a shame that pepe has decided this. But I do understnd the reason why. Why are Poland (only one GP rider per team) and Great Britain (only one 8 point rdier per team), on course to weaken thier leagues. It will only prove to put supporters off, seeing the weaker teams, just prue madness, I think. The Swedish league must now be regarded as the strongest league, next season.
  7. When I sadi that Arthur Atkinson was favourite, I was just mentionong what the press said at the time. I also think that Cordy Milne would have won. Afterall he had the bonus point advantage, and a liking for the Wembley track. But thnanks to Mr. Hitler we'll never know for certain.
  8. Excellent race card willstaxi. I did notice that you didn't have the reserve riders names. They were 17. Malcolm Craven (4) and 18. Frank Gouldon (3), both of England. Bonus points in brackets, though reserves wouldn't have carried their bonus points to the final. Shame that the meeting wasn't raced. Arthur Atkinson was the favorite. Many thanks
  9. Many thanks this has been a great help
  10. Thanks for that, but the riders are listed in gate postions red, blue, white and yellow. This is what was printed in the 'Speedway News' Lionel Van Praag does have three races in four heats namely (8, 10 & 11)

  14. Many thanks Ramsbottom, that is a great help to me.
  15. These riders rode at reserve, in the 1972 British Zone World Championship Qualifying Rounds Can anyonr help me with their first names. Workington R.Young King's Lynn P.Taylor & J.Gosling Cradley Heath A.Hunt They were most likley the track mentioned junior riders.
  16. Surley Indianerna must be one of the strongest EVER speedway league teams, in history. Looking forwrd to watching the meeting tonight.
  17. You right Norbold I was asking which team that they represented in the 1929 Star Riders Championship. Many thanks for the link Speedwayguy
  18. Many thanks for that. I just brought a copy of the book
  19. Many thanks for all the information. Does anyone know where I can find a list of the pre-war World Championship, quailfiers.
  20. These took part in the 1929 Star Riders Championship, in the British section. Can anyone tell which clubs, that they rode for, in 1929. Ivor Creek - West Ham Tommy Croombs Buster Frogley Roger Frogley Jimmy Hayes Jim Kempster - Wimbledon Gus Khan - Stamford Bridge Jack Parker Eric Spencer - White City (London) Colin Watson - White City (London)
  21. I keep my fingers crossed for both Thomas & Smererna
  22. Many thanks, for the info Tony. Easy mistake to do when you put so much hard work into the magazine, most likely a case of information overload. I know I get it sometimes running, my local dart league.
  23. Excellent issue Tony. The Golden Helmet feature makes for very interestiung reading. I'm still my way through it. But there are no win details for Christer Lofqvist, in 1972. Its got him winning against Jimmy McMillan, then the winning section goes to Ole Olsen. I know that it's just an oversight, but could you please put his winning details, if there is any (I ain't checked my Speedway Stars, yet), in the next issue, for everyone.
