  1. In Wimbledon's team in 1957 and 1958 their was Ronnie Moore, Barry Briggs and Ivan Mauger. On Tuesday 16 September 1958 in a challenge match away against Southampton they all rode together in the same team. And again at home against Oxford in a National League match on Monday 22 September 1958. Also in both of these matches was future World Pairs Champion Bob Andrews.

  5. Thursday 19 May 1983 the British League match Wimbledon vs Cradley Heath had 11 former, current and future World finalists on show. For Wimbledon: Dave Jessup, Kai Niemi, Malcolm Simmons and Kelvin Tatum. For Cradley Heath: Simon Wigg, Peter Ravn, Erik Gundersen, Alan Grahame, Phil Collins, Jan O. Pedersen and Lance King. The match score was Wimbledon 35, Cradley Heath 43 Wimbledon beat Cradley Heath at home later in the year. Peter Ravn, also qualified for the 1987 2-day final in Amsterdam as reserve and rode in heat 15 scoring 1 point after Gerd Riss broke the tapes. This make this 1983 particular Cradley Heath team being made-up of all former, current and future World finalists. Whether 11 riders in one meeting is a record I don't know. The first time that these Cradley Heath riders rode together as team was on May 7 at home against Birmingham (League Cup) Cradley won 56-22. For the British League it's the Wimbledon fixture that I have mentioned above. Steve, I think that this finally answers your question. I did double check the Speedway Star for 1983 and Peter Ravn did ride in most of that seasons meetings for Cradley Heath sometimes alongside Simon Cross, so you can also add him to those teams of world finalists who rode in a meeting.
  6. I have fully completed programmes for all of the Internationale meetings, and none of the qualifying rounds programmes in 1961 schedule a run off race to decide the overall winner if riders tied during the meeting. My file for the Internationale is on the Speedway Researcher website under the Wimbledon team section.
  7. Does anyone have the heat details and race times for the Gulf British League match Ipswich 42, Wimbledon 36 that was raced on Saturday 25 August 1979. As I only need this result to complete my Wimbledon 1979 file for the Speedway researcher website and I can't find my programme anywhere. The details were never published in the Speedway Star for that week due to them arriving late, and the magazine never published the information in kater editions. many thanks in advance for any help.
  8. I will update this now. One thing I did note was the dates didn't include 1928 when venues operated only on open licences.
  9. Very sad to hear of Bryan's passing my condolences to his family and friends. Bryan, was a genius and way ahead of his time with his remarkable statistics that must have taken him hours to compile. Easily one of the best parts of the Speedway Star magazine in my youth. And also make terrific reading even today.
  10. There's a small page about Crystal Palace on wikipedia, but like you I'm surprised of their omission. Because of this I added to that list on wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_Palace_Glaziers
  11. What everyone has to remember about Scott's victory in the 1979 Grand Prix victory was that the it was a one-off final raced at Wimbledon. All British league clubs held qualifying rounds prior to the final so that the field could be determined. Scott, also won the Daily Express spring classic at Wimbledon in 1979. Scott, loved the Wimbledon track and i can still remember him breaking the track record in 1978. He was entering turn 3 before the other riders in the race had come out off the second turn.
  12. Nice to be at the top of the chart now - but much better to be in pole position after the final SGP
  13. Hi the date is 27 November 1976. I have a image of the cober that I used on my now defunct wimbledon 1976 website that I had and I didn't notice the full date sorry about that.
  14. the 1976 Speedway Star featuring Joe Owen is dated Saturday 27 November and the 1977 Speedway Star featuring Colin Richardson is dated Saturday 5 November. The dates on the Speedway Star in 1976 & 1977 have Saturday dates on them but you could buy the magazine before this date, as I always did from Eddie the magazine and book seller at Plough Lane on a Thursday.
  15. Sadly Tommy's last meeting in the UK was the Saturday after the Marlboro Southern Championship qualifying round at Wimbledon. As the team had a Gulf British League match at Halifax on May 15 when he scored 12+1 from 5 rides. I have the programme but the second half results are blank in the programme I have. Tommy won the Marlboro Southern Championship in 1975. And the Laurels in 1976 was won by Martin Ashby with a 15 points on a very wet Thursday night, at Plough Lane on October 28.
  16. Thursday 8 April 1976. Tommy Jansson beating the holder Martin Ashby 2-0 at Plough Lane in the first leg of the competition before the Wimbledon's league match against Belle Vue. The league match result was Wimbledon 35, Belle Vue 43. pop group Mud (Wimbledon supporters) sponsored the second half which was won by Peter Collins from Martin Ashby and Tommy Jansson. Chris Morton retired in the final. If I remember correctly a picture of the pop group appeared on the back cover of the Speedway Star after the event with the finalists.
  17. Exactly 41 years ago today Wimbledon 32, Reading 46 (Challenge Match) still remember it well today. My first taste of live speedway so much different from watching it on the telly which I been doing for a while. The Noise, Smell and Atmosphere was brilliant. This is when I choose Wimbledon as my team to support then and forever despite the closure of the stadium to speedway.
  18. This is just for fun and please do list other years if you want to, Image that there was a speedway world cup in 1936 what teams do you think would be in the final. Personally I have a quick check on the riders available and managed only four really competitive teams and they're listed below. I haven't included Wilbur Lamoreaux in the USA team even though if I was their manager I would flown him into the country for the final at Wembley. Australian Ron Johnson was added the challengers team to help strengthen them. Who would you pick for 1936 and others years? 1936 World Cup Final England 1 Eric Langton 2 Frank Charles 3 Jack Parker 4 Bill Kitchen 5 George Newton Australia 1 Lionel Van Praag 2 Bluey Wilkinson 3 Vic Huxley 4 Max Grosskreutz 5 Dick Case USA 1 Jack Milne 2 Cordy Milne 3 Benny Kaufman 4 Pete Coleman 5 Sam Arena Challengers 1 Morian Hansen 2 Wally Kilmister 3 Eric Chitty 4 Jimmy Gibb 5 Ron Johnson
  19. many thanks to armieg I now have all the information I need.
  20. I' am making a Wimbledon 1979 file for the Speedway Researcher website, but I'm stuck working out the format for the Daily Mirror Four Team Tournament that was raced at Reading. The meeting was postponed on Monday 23 April but was restaged on 2 July. The format used is not a common one used as teams rode with partners in their heats rather than the usual format of one rider from each side in every race. Does anyone have the format for this competition, so that I complete the line up correctly and put the riders into their true helmet colours? Many thanks for any help in advance.
  21. My Internationale file is now on the Speedway Researcher website in the Wimbledon year by year team section.
  22. This is very kind of you Norbold. And I thank you once for again for sending me details required for 1961 Internationales. Plus also to Andrew Skeels of the Speedway Star for their 1962 meeting report. This information help confirmed details for these years.
  23. Just to inform everyone on here that I have just sent Matt at the Speedway Researcher website my full colour document of the 'Complete History of the Speedway Internationale' that includes all full race details and programme covers from every single meeting from this historic event. Although I haven't included my meeting reports due to file size plus also I want to do a rewrite of them. I don't know when he will put on his website. Hope that you like my file when it's available. Robert
