  1. TBF, If I had the power to get Porkie to shut up I'd use it. Any old reason would do as an excuse, Rosco for an MBE I say.
  2. You're right, every other team would have done the same thing as Poole. However, would the outcome have been the same if Poole had been losing and trying to get the meeting off. Unfortunately, past history has shown that the interests of Sky and Poole are intertwined.
  3. We can put this argument to bed right now. It clearly all depends on who you are. If you're a relatively compos mentis type of person you should be able to be a speedway manager without too much trouble. However, if you're the type of person who struggles to hold a biro the right way round then being a speedway manager must appear to be a very demanding job. So, all of you are right.
  4. Those will never work on their own. He needed to add 'I'm a representative of Poole speedway and this is the result we want, so in the interest of Poole Speedway Rider Safety lets pretend it's suddenly much more dangerous than before'
  5. I've yet to see anyone who announces their departure actually go (KKS holds the record with 243 'last' posts). A change of name is as close as they get. It'd be nice to see someone be good to their word.
  6. When you consider it's taken them god knows how many years to twig it'd probably be handy to have the meeting a bit earlier in the year, expecting any genuinely useful decisions is blind optimism.
  7. Or a desperate attention seeker. Anyone who can only get the attention they want/need by trolling (mainly) middle aged men on a speedway website really needs something better to do in life.
  8. 38 posts and you've already managed 2 moronic threads - are you 12 years old?
  9. The point was about comparing EL/PL. It's all relative as those aren't tracks famed for astonishing speedway, but the points I made would apply to those tracks too.
  10. Yes there is. And in terms of racing I prefer the EL, not because there are more 'good' races, because to be honest I think the number of 'good' races in a meeting has been pretty much the same in PL and EL. But the first couple of bends are a little more cut and thrust in the EL, and there is a higher chance of a 'Wow, did you see that' kind of move happening. That said, I enjoyed following Brum in the PL immensely and I wouldn't worry if we ever end up back there. There is slightly more variation in the teams you face, though not to the degree that some PL diehards would like to believe.
  11. You're getting it all wrong. Just say you're from Poole speedway, they have all the best sponsors who are quite literally falling over themselves to throw money at the club. At least that's what a couple of posters on here are always telling us.
  12. I'm sure it has but speedway attendances have been dropping, irrespective of the state of the economy, for many years.
  13. Apologies Squire, I'll be in the grounds if needed.
  14. No, it's not 'northern humour', it's infantile drivel. I wasn't aware there were any upper class people on here, I can't imagine Lord and Lady whatever donning their Wulfsport jackets and heading to Loomer Road or wherever. Though if there are any noble types on here and I've spoken out of turn then I doff my cap sir or maam.
  15. He won nowt, but did get to present the 'Most Gorgeous Sporting Coach' award to Peter Adams.
  16. OMG!!!! Viewing figures could be down by as many as ten whole people. I hear the BBC governors are convening for an extra-special meeting even as we speak. If Gary Lineker and Clare Balding look more ashen faced than normal we shall no the reason why.
  17. I'd like to think that this was irony, but I'm sure it's not.
  18. I can't believe for one moment there's any chance of that happening, it'll go entirely on propping up ailing businesses.
  19. At present it doesn't, no. But to look at the success of F1/Moto Gp merchandising shows that there is potential. Problem is the product and the audience have to be right if merchandise is to succeed.
  20. I agree completely. I see how this will cut costs and make speedway more sustainable for promoters, but will it bring in more fans through the door? Ultimately, EL fans will pay the same for a poorer product, so what is being done to balance that equation?
  21. I understand the need to weaken the product, as otherwise there's clearly no way that promotions can make it pay. However, when will speedway learn that if the product is weakened then something else needs to be done to encourage new fans to walk through the door. I doubt this was even discussed. I presume entrance fees won't change so we will have a weaker product for the same money. I can't help but think that that's not a sensible business model. All that this smacks of is promoters desperately sticking their fingers in the hole in the damn.
  22. A mass brawl about bringing back the green helmet colour?
  23. The idea that racing was fantastic in the past and fans flocked in to witness such unbelievable spectacle, is false. I'm sure speedway seemed more exciting then, but that was because of large crowds and the associated excitement rather than the quality of racing. There are many reasons for speedway's dire situation but the quality of racing is way, way down the list. I'd wager that even if there passes in every single heat of racing in 2014 that gates would rise by very much, if at all.
  24. Bit of a fallacy this. If I had the time I'd break down the stats, but I'll wager that there's actually far less difference in the number of times teams are facing each other in the EL and the PL. How many times have Worky faced Newcastle or Edinburgh this season?
