  1. Team: 1. Vissing 2. Shanes 3. Auty 4. Ellis 5. Morris 6. Neilsen 7. Pearson
  2. Or Coventry or Kings Lynn ... Leave it alone for a couple of months and the grass will grow.
  3. There used to such a thing as the Congreve Rocket: there is a nickname for him!
  4. Probably what the hoo-har was about trying to sort out dates?
  5. I was there: I included the photograph to show that I helped one of the riders for a couple of years doing MDL, and I have described what I then saw. This argument started when I included a quotation from the Scunthorpe Stags Facebook site, saying that Godfrey 'did not like' the MDL. After all, Scunthorpe is not a 'club which does not exist'!
  6. You appear to have misunderstood my point. I couldn't care less about Godfrey; you don't need to get upset about me dissing the great man. I was complaining about the destruction of a very valuable means for riders to get their first step on the speedway rung. I drove a rider round many tracks in order for him to ride in his progression; the MDL was the next step before the National League, though this didn't happen. As I said, the MDL teams were run despite the promoters.
  7. Because I don't know him, and don't want to. I went to Scunthorpe often enough for MDL matches, and, like all other promoters, Godfrey was conspicuous by his absence; the junior team (like all others) was run by an enthusiast, for love of the sport.
  8. So why doesn't he like the MDL? No-one has answered that.
  9. Why not? I suppose that the answer is that MDL riders rode for free, amateurs have to pay £40 ...
  10. Maybe, but it just shows the mighty mental capacity of this person.
  11. And it was not just 'nomadic' teams which were abolished. I have just found this: The Scunthorpe promotion have dealt the Stags a major blow by deciding against any further action for the team, stating they think the Midland Development League is "a waste of time." And this is from the person who is supposed to be running British speedway!
  12. In my experience, all of the Development League teams were run by 'people on an ego trip', which is extremely unfair on those who were doing it for the love of the sport.
  13. But it was never explained why this was! They gave plenty of riders the opportunity to compete and practice.
  14. And the Midland [Northern/Southern] Development Leagues need to be reinstated. This was an invaluable stepping stone between training schools and the National League; now it has (mostly) gone, people wonder why there is a shortage of riders!
  15. Everybody knows that speedway riders come from Denmark and Poland ... the idiots destroyed the MDL/NDL some years ago. I am unable to understand why.
  16. And only a few months ago the usual suspects were screaming about the season extending into November! You never heard of rain-offs?
  17. About 5 years ago, I was at an amateur meeting at Kings Lynn, where there was a young boy who was too young to race. He was so obviously mega-talented that I went to find out who he was: Drew Kemp.
  18. At Birmingham, the lessees, AIM, control the (overpriced) food and drink: and they won't let you bring your own! And the pick up truck went years ago. In fact, the promotions have been trying all the suggestions made here for some years.
  19. And Stoke, but not enough to make a real difference.
  20. The originator of this thread is well named ... why do people have to be so miserable? Unless he is deliberately trolling, which is quite likely.
