Northern Junior League 2026
*JJ replied to bigdave's topic in Youth Speedway and Development Leagues
The BSPL banned 'nickname' teams some years ago. Thereby reducing the supply of new riders ... -
As I understand it, Mildenhall is not in the NDL, so what is the problem?
-
Years ago, I met James Hanlon, a member of Love Affair ... he told me that none of the group actually performed in the record!
-
So ask yourself, why?
-
Why is that? Meadows was impressive riding in second halves at Birmingham last season.
-
Well, when I was involved in it 10 years ago, there were plenty of riders taking part in a dozen MDL teams. Any shortage of riders now is the result of the complete indifference shown by the BSPL or whoever is in charge. No effort has been made to encourage new riders, so what do they expect?
-
Thanks for that. I wish that the powers that be would give some encouragement to the Midland league as well, an invaluable step for new riders. Not every one is Cooper Rushen!
-
What happened to the Northern Junior League? (the layer below the National League).
-
One suspects that his first name is Clark, or possibly Avtar.
-
There is a Northern Development League which is for beginners: the NL is too advanced for most.
-
That is the Midland/Northern Development League. It is difficult enough for NL riders to make it to the Championship; your suggestion would make it impossibe.
-
I don't think that this is true at the lower levels. My experiences in the MDL some years ago suggests that this is exactly what happens, despite the total indifference of the promoters.
-
On the other hand, the stand-alone teams need good riders to attract a good crowd.
-
You should volunteer, Dean!
-
Yes: I used to buy tyres, and other items, for a rider starting out in speedway, and drive him about using my own diesel. They have got to serve their appenticeship first.
-
Do you really expect to make a profit in a training league? The riders should be doing it for the experience.
-
Well, the best of luck with that ... as I said, he would be best advised to start with amateur racing, and use that to convince promoters that he still has his talent, and is willing to buckle down and be honest.
-
As I understand it, they are going to start with practice sessions and so on. I have attended these and amateur racing in winter with freezing fog and snow ... I doubt if they are going to have paying racing for spectators before May, even if the NL starts before then.
-
If he wants to start riding, there is amateur speedway?
-
He was almost invariably last in Heat 1 last year, and rarely seemed interested. Be careful what you wish for ...
-
He also robbed some old age pensioners at knife point. Twice.
-
Malcolm Simmonds!
-
Rogers probably wants to recycle the Birmingham Bulls body colours! Anyway, 'High Peak Hitmen' was a rather silly name ...

What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
*JJ replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Because the promoters demand it.
