Stoke v Brummies NL Sat 1st Sep

I am honestly not surprised by this result, when we have two weak reserves then how can you expect to go anywhere and win with ease. We had 4 decent riders and maybe if all of them fire then we should win but we are always treading a fine line, if one or two dont quite perform like tonight then we are screwed. I just dont see us finishing in the playoffs now, I think it will probably be Mildenhall, Eastbourne,Kent and Belle Vue. Its been for me another disappointing season, I think we were definitely spoiled in 2015 and 2016, the last two years have been frustrating. Too many injuries and a side that has been really unbalanced which is never helpful if your trying to get into the playoffs. Well done Stoke, would love to see Connor Coles riding for us next year. Saw him the other week and he was great then beating Shanes and Bacon in the same race. -
Plymouth v Birmingham postponed
Brummie Kev replied to Jonnybegood's topic in National League Speedway
There's no doubt in mind the call off is genuine and having seen the picture of the track its the right decision. At the end of the day calling this match off would be the last thing the Plymouth promotion would have wanted. The cut off is about 3 weeks away and with them just outside the playoffs a call off is the last thing they need. Also like any club they lose money for having to call meetings off, this meeting would have had a good crowd for sure esp with it being the last friday in August. Just one of them things. -
Plymouth v Brummies NL Friday 31st Aug

We need some points on the road, this is a meeting where I hope we can get something. A top 4 of Bacon,Flint, Kemp and Ayres is pretty strong! but we do need a few points from the reserve boys, Bulley is an ex Plymouth so will interesting to see how he goes. Im not sure whether the SBA is a track that will suit Embleton but if them two can chip in with a few we stand a chance. -
I really hope all the promoters this winter agree to amend the regulations to allow clubs to find a replacement for injured riders any time of the season. The point of the transfer window should be to stop clubs strengthening at the last min before the playoffs and gaining an unfair advantage. Its grossly unfair to penalise clubs that have just been unlucky and are in no way gaining an advantage. If the promoters actually listened to the fans then I guarantee most fans think this rule is crazy.

Brummies v Coventry NL Wed 29th Aug
Brummie Kev replied to Brummies_Ste's topic in National League Speedway
So yet another injury, just when will it end. Get well soon Callum, they said hes got fractures in both hands and a foot injury. We were always up against it without Danyon but to lose Callum in the first lap of the first race was a disaster. Still the boys fought hard against a better side with crucially better reserves. We need results on the road now! Well done Coventry -

This is gonna be tough now without Danyon, we need Callum firing like last week and the reserves to contribute. Coventry have good reserves and Mountain always goes well at Perry Barr. Could go either way in my opinion -
Surely that doesn't apply for injury replacements?, its madness if it does. Hume is out for the season now I would say, what benefit is it to anyone to deny the paying public the right to see a 7 man team.

Kent v Brummies NL Mon 27th Aug

You gotta feel sorry for Danyon Hume, that kid has absolutely no luck. Last year remember his season ended early through injury, this year he had injured his shoulder when riding for Ipswich. He tries everything to get back quick to an extent where he even pays for private treatment himself to speed up his recovery. Then third meeting into his comeback he "hits a hole" on the track and now has a suspected broken collarbone. Its absolutely unbelievable! I know we got a great point tonight and are in hunt for the playoffs but this season cant end quick enough for me. Its been injury after injury plus bad luck, we've had the major crash with Mitch Davey, JPB injured, Hume twice and Leon Flint. I dont blame Layne Cupitt at all for deciding to take a break from the sport but it was unfortunate that it happened when his average dropped from 4 to 3, so that was bad luck. Its 2008 over again, that year a really good side was decimated by injury. -
Hasnt there beem talk that the BSPA are exploring the idea of six man teams. We all know the problems with doubling up and the lack of riders. I reckon they want to stage a 'test' meeting to see how it goes, and because we dont have a meeting from Aug 29th to the end of september we have volunteered to be the guinea pigs.

Forgot to add the meeting is a six man team format and Bacon riding for Peterborough as hes their asset.

Brummies v Stoke NL Wed 22nd Aug

Dont ask me to predict the lottery numbers, christ what a rout! What has happened to Max Clegg, not long ago he was an out and out top rider at this level but seems to have fallen away. Stoke apart from Connor Coles were awful, he put a great showing in Heat 13 to beat Shanes and Bacon. Brummies were fantastic, credit to all of them but especially Callum Walker. Ive been critical at times but tonight he was immense, seems that break has done him the world of good. Danyon and Leon were faultless. Team is looking good now, top 4 is very strong and if Walker and the reserves can peform like that tonight then anything is possible for the playoffs -
I wasn't surprised when David announced the challenge match with Peterborough, they will obviously decide what the future holds based on the attendance and interest that night. David was very tight lipped about next season he obviously couldn't say anything. It will be a good night for sure, we had some good meetings with them back in the EL days. Im pleased that we are seeing Chris Harris back after he rode for us in 2013/14, Jason Garrity is such an entertainer and Rory Schein is a rider that has always ridden well here and obviously a great number 1 in the Championship. Peterborough are bringing their full side so hopefully we can give them a good meeting and there's a good crowd. Just wish there was a second leg at the EOES because I love that track.

Does this league have a future ?

Totally agree with you, The Tony Mole farewell was for me the most enjoyable meeting of 2017. Good to see some old faces and say goodbye to a man that resurrected the sport in Birmingham. Impressed with what David and Peter Mason have done so far. -

Gonna be a tough one i think, Perry and Clegg are a good top two for Stoke. Wallinger a decent rider plus Burnett should score a few at reserve. Hopefully we gate from the start and set the ball rolling early on. A must win for the Brummies -
Fair Play, Thank You

I dont see any away wins, maybe a point or two at Plymouth and/or Kent but we may struggle in the 3 away meetings this month. We should beat Stoke and Coventry at home now we have Danyon back, so I think Buxton away on 16th September could prove to be crucial if Stoke and Coventry away arnt scheduled before the cut off.

Does this league have a future ?
Brummie Kev replied to ruckerroo's topic in National League Speedway
Ive enjoyed the National League the past 3 or so seasons and like you its been a pleasure to see the development of some of the young riders but for me I miss the likes of Ben Barker, Josh Auty, Nico Covatti flinging it in the dirt close to the fence. I dont want Premiership because it all ended in tears last time in 2014 but I think a move up a league would be a good thing. We see Tom Bacon winning by half a lap already and I don't necessary think you get better racing, you get good and bad races in any league. We have had alot of success in NL and its been very enjoyable but its time to move on, just the only question for me is would the crowds sustain a higher level of speedway. -
Wonder when our fixtures at Stoke and Coventry will be held, I hope before the cut off!

What special guest at reserve will that be?

Brummie Kev replied to ruckerroo's topic in National League Speedway
Why cant they bring in a rule where every National League club must have one of their reserve slots occupied by an SDL/NDL or MDL rider. We had Arran Butcher for a large part of year hardly scoring a point but what hope in hell has he got against the likes Kemp or Marson when Mildenhall were in town earlier in the season. At least make it more even, we want to give chances to the SDL/NDL/MDL riders but unless their a freak like Kemp, its all about giving them confidence to aid their development. Also I think introducing that rule would partly help with the chronic rider shortage in this league, it may mean more riders currently out of work but as we all know injuries happen sadly. There's times when you need to make a change and clearly now theres only junior league riders available who will always find it tough against more established NL reserves.. -
Brummies v Buxton Wed 15th Aug NL
Brummie Kev replied to Brummies_Ste's topic in National League Speedway
Enjoyable meeting last night, finally good to see us winning at home after a torrid 6 weeks or so. The first time for a while everybody put in a good performance, plenty of promise from Josh and Sheldon at reserve. It may be his first meeting back but that's the best Ive seen Leon since his move into the main body. Gutted for Tom, so deserved his 15 point maximum but he more than did his job. One of the best riders in the NL without a doubt. Credit to Buxton, thought they put up a decent performance, Danny Ayres was a great choice of guest. The races between him and James Shanes were absolutely worth admission money alone. Impressed with Connor Coles and Tom Woolley, they also had good nights. -
Handed a two year ban by the SCB is what Ive just seen on brummies forum, nothing offiical yet though

Its amazing what a difference seven days makes, a week ago I would have bit anyone's hand off for against the Heathens but last night I was disappointed we could only draw at home to Kent. Its a fixture I thought we would win, given we had the hottest young property in the country guesting for us. The form Bacon and Shanes have been in, and the way Greenwood rode in the latter stages against Cradley and the fact Embleton couldn't be any worse than Sealey. Kent are a good side but I felt they were beatable even with our weak bottom end. In the end I don't think a Kent away win would have been unjust at all , we were lucky to not lose that match. Drew Kemp was brilliant and without doubt a huge talent over the coming years, thank god we had him. Shanes in the end had a good meeting, didnt gate much but thats a good thing with James as we saw!. I'm sure we can excuse Tom Bacon for having an off meeting, hes been absolutely fantastic this year and its no mistake hes a 10 point rider, he just couldn't gate for toffee. Greenwood annoys the heck out of me, we saw him fly out the gate last in a few heats last night. Then he just rides so defensive and lap by lap you see the opposition get closer and eventually pass him. I think he probably has a lack of confidence or faith in his machinery I don't know but Heat 14 was poor. I sort of expected Rowe to beat him but never Alex Spooner, I half expected Davies to challenge Spooner in that one given he beat Hampshire in his last heat. I wouldn't criticise Sheldon Davies for lack of effort, I thought he gave everything he just doesn't always gate and he struggles then but credit to him for his win over Hampshire. Hopefully in the coming weeks Embleton will be able to chip in with a few more points. I look forward to when Danyon is back, hopefully its next week when Flint returns because that should really improve the team. The fixtures are running out now and I'm not sure we will make the playoffs but you never know we could turn the corner with Hume in place of Greenwood. Would be nice to just win at home, we have not won since June 28th (4 meetings)

Birmingham Brummies v Cradley heathens
Brummie Kev replied to Heathen1984's topic in National League Speedway
Thats good to hear, I think the interval entertainment for kids has been a great introduction from the new management. Every week they do something, the best was the tug of war when the Brummies and Buxton riders had a match up, of course the Brummies won!
