Early Season Fireworks

The music was alright tonight, would agree the music for lyons will get annoying but the music on the whole was good. The new sound when the race is stopped is funny. (The family fortunes sound when a incorrect answer is given) Chris Simpson did a very good job tonight much better then Yorkie. -

I wouldnt say the crowd was poor, have seen bigger crowds for PL meetings, although the car park was full and there were alot of cars parked at the one stop. We were never going to get the crowds of last years alan hunt meeting as that was our first meeting in 20 years. Do agree though that the weather played a part -

Decent meeting this evening not a bad season opener. Not sure why Andre wasnt there pity he couldnt defend his title. David Howe deserved his win tonight was fantastic. Even when he missed the gate in heat 10 the way he fought back was fantastic. That was the best heat and a fabulous heat of speedway. Heat 14 was another very good heat, fantastic battle between Lyons and Legault, Legault is pure entertainment and seemed quicker then lyons in that heat despite finishing second. There were some mundane heats but thats always expected in a slightly uneven field. First time i`d seen danny king ride and i thought he did well should have a good season at P`boro. Kauko was a bit hit or miss tonight, the ex brummies ulrich and Brent both had good meetings. Ulrich didnt suprise me excellent rider and i thought he would do well on his return. Brent however did, he looked like a totally different rider to the brent we saw last year on this showing he`ll do well at somerset. As for the brummie riders: Kyle Legault- If you consider he has never rode the track before his performance was great. Kept up pace with the EL guys and he was really entertaining. Gating was terrific and after this big things are expected. James Birkinshaw- Poor 3 heats then woke up Last ride was good chasing down Nieminen and looked a different rider. Should do well as time passes Jason Lyons -Indifferent first ride then back to normal service after that. Class of Howe and Johnston showed in last ride. Adam Roynon- Impressed as well , looked quick in a lot of heats. Should provide exciting racing when hes in it Phill Morris- Better then expected meeting. Looked good tonight. Smart- Not a great meeting by lees standards, got slightly better as the meeing wore on. Hargreaves- Absolute nightmare, its only the first meeting so i wont be too harsh. Hope he improves on friday. Good crowd to night, the track was in surprisingly good shape despite the heavy rain on Sat night. What was amazing was not one crash or rider coming off shows the track wasnt bad. Just glad the seasons back even though it was bloody cold tonight. -

Forecast for tomorrow for the west midlands from the met office: "Outbreaks of rain should clear southwards during the morning, then it should be a mostly dry and bright day with some sunshine, though with a cool and fresh northeasterly wind. Maximum temperature 10 °C." Should be okay, at least the meeting is at 6pm. Good luck with your run -

If David Howe hadnt got injured at Telford, then a top three place would be certain. Hes even said himself hes not comfortable walking so it may affect his confidence riding. One thing is certain i cant see andre compton retaining the trophy if he rides like the last time he rode the track. -

I thought Wright was riding as well, it’s only since I `ve seen your post ive realised. Swindon aren’t riding sunday so I cant see why he wouldn’t ride, unless the swindon promotion have stopped him riding in it. It might be perhaps he’s injured but I haven’t seen anything saying he is, who knows. The early weather forecast isn’t great. It looks at the minute like Sunday morning will be wet but the system will move southwards around lunchtime and after that dry for the rest of the day. With a greyhound meeting at lunchtime they won’t be able to work on the track till 3pm. A bit of rain wouldn’t hurt the track, it might even liven the racing up. I’m fairly optimistic that the meeting will take place, but you can only judge the weather on the day of the meeting. -

Went to the afternoon meeting and i really enjoyed it. It was my first ice meeting and it was great to it pretty full. Obviously the injuries to Craig Branney and David Howe put a downer on the afternoon. Craigs was awful he went full speed into the wall, terrible to hear he broke his leg. Its was great to see garry stead make an appearence, the racing was good just a shame about the injuries, Howe was excellent before his injury. The dancing on ice was great, how funny was shaun tacey, pity he didnt win it. Good meeting just cant wait for the season to start now. -

Certainly cant wait till this meeting, be good to see ulrich back even if its only one meeting. I think it was great that ulrich contacted graham drury to ask if he would be able to ride. -

They`ve announced that the ELRC is at brum but i`m not sure if we have got planning permission yet to stage it. Tony mole did put an application to the council before to stage the meeting before christmas but that was put back by the council. That was due to over 100 complaints by the residents and the university over noise, there hasnt been any more news in the local press so i`m notsure if the council have said we can stage this meeting. As for the meeting itself, it would be a massive boost to the local area, to stage a big meeting like this. I do see problems in staging the meeting, firstly our carpark isnt massive compared other tracks, i know there is the shopping centre parking accross the road but if fans dont know that they might park on the streets which we have already had problems with. Also like other people i thought we might have needed a air fence, if one is installed then viewing on the first/second bend would be non- existant if you are not in the temporary stands. That would mean the straight would be come crowded. Still if these issues are addressed then the meeting can be a success because we already have fantastic facilites and a brilliant track that has provided alot of action. -
Wouldnt be suprised to see Filip Sitera riding in it in 2013 has a big future

Sky's Coverage...
Brummie Kev replied to Firestorm's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Good post firestormdax, sky have done so much for speedway in this country but the way they showed the GP in germany was poor. Why didn`t they cut into the rugby, who cares about south african rugby (no-one will next saturday ) to show the first four heats not live was a disgrace, what a way to treat the GP in its hundreth race. Also the presenter, cant remember his name, is totally annoying why cant we have a decent looking female presenter. Sophie Blake possibly -
Shame about Henrik Moller, seems to be still strugling with his form. Decent effort from manuel, well done to Jurica Pavlic

I thought it was a very good meeting, the racing at times was excellent most of that after the interval. James Wright was deserved winner, he was quite brilliant and to be honest half way through the meeting i thought he could win it he looked very good. Jason Lyons out of all the riders looked the quickest, but in several heats he missed the gate, including the grand final, if only he made a better gate . I wasnt surprised about jason doing well hes been in awesome form recently. What i was surprised about was Jac Rempalas third place, especially after his first two rides. Hes wasnt great earlier on, but got better and better as the meeting wore on. After the season berwick have had, at least now they had a bit of success. It was a night of shocks with quality riders like woffinden, holder, topinka and compton failing to reach the final. Holder must be disapointted, his gating was good but he looked slow compared to when i have seen him before. His ride in the semi final was awful, and was comfortably beaten. I still think he will be a sucess in the elite league. The race of the night was no doubt heat 14, compton finally looked good and so did Chris Kerr, with the talent of Tai it was a great race ,kerr and compton neck and neck with the lead changing a few times. Woffinden in third place was the quicker and was trying hard to win it. great race. My first time at swindon and was impressed with the stadium and the track. good to see lots of fellow brummie fans there and making lots of noise. Every team had good representation of fans, more brummie, somerset, newport and sheffield i would say. Sorry to hear about the fans and jason king that were stuck on the M4 that missed the meeting. My journey down the M5, A419, A417 was smooth there and back. Well done james wright -

Enjoyed tonights meeing some good racing. Great to see Garry Stead turn up, wish him well. Pity there was no Craig Watson or Chris Neath tonight, but chris schramm did a decent job and so did Lee Smart . Also hope Andy smith recovers soon, looked a nasty crash. The same can be said about Ben Powell hope he is alright for next week. All of the elite boys looked good tonight Cameron Woodward impressed, i thought David Howe and Rory Schlein were awesome, and Janniro did well. As for the premier riders Nieminen was brilliant and so was Franc ( no surprise). Andre Compton struggled tonight, his gating was not as good as it usually is although he looked quite fast. The Brummie riders struggled tonight except that is the brilliant Jason Lyons. Heat 20 was one of the best this season all four riders making the gate ( janniro, screen, schein and Lyons) and for Lyons to beat them riders shows what a good rider he is. I thought Schlein had the win in the bag after his four rides, didnt make a mistake, shows why hes a good rider and has a 8pt average in the EL. With Emilano turning up and looking well and having a collection that has surely raised alot for the bloke, it was a great evening. The only down side was it was so bloody cold -

So the home meeting i have looked forward the most comes to perry barr on wednesday. What a line up instore, i have a feeling the track record might go on wednesday, whether jason brakes his new record i`m not sure i reckon schlein or janiero might. Hope the crowd is good, doesent help when villa are playing at home on the same night, but i think its well worth going to( speedway not football ). I expect there to be plenty of Cov and wovles fans, should be a cracking atmosophere. Line up 1. Rory Schein 2. David Howe 3. Joe Screen 4. Billy Janniro 5. Andy Smith 6. Ronnie Correy 7. Andre Compton 8. Craig Watson 9. Chris Neath 10. Kauko Nieminen 11. Josef Franc 12. Cameron Woodward 13. Jason Lyons 14. Henrik Moller 15. Phil Morris 16. Ben Powell Reserve: Lee Smart

Just got back, decent meeting tonight not the best but some good young talent on show. Lee Smart was excellent tonight as i expected and deserved his win. The first six heats were average, very little passing, but as the meeting wore on it got better. The heat of the night was heat 8 Matthew Wright led Smarty for most of the race, but smarty shoved wright wide on the second bend to gain first. I must admit Matthew Wright impressed my alot, i think he would do a good job in the PL. Ben Taylor and Arlo Bugeja also did well. But for me rider of the night was Luke priest, did very well, it would have been great if he would have won it considering his injuries. The crowd was okay tonight, certainly the lowest of the season. But thats expected a junior meeting on a big football night for england. The straight was quite well populated , but where i was on the first second bend it was average. Still worth the £10 admission tonight
-
Should be a good meeting, with the "stars of tommorow " on display at Perry Barr. With Lee Smart and Ben Powell taking part there should a decent crowd for a junior event. This might be helped due to the fact that a new signing will be announced on the same night. Great to see Luke making his comeback Line up 1. Lee Smart 2. Ben Powell 3. Scott James 4. Kyle Hughes 5. Martin Emerson 6. Scott Richardson 7. Adam McKinna 8. Ben Taylor 9. Matthew Wright 10. Arlo Bugeja 11. Karl mason 12 Jack Roberts 13. Luke Priest
