  1. PISZCZ RETURNS- :approve: TOMASZ Piszcz, one of the most popular riders ever to wear Birmingham colours, will make an emotional return to Perry Barr in the Joe Thurley Memorial Trophy next Wednesday, September 15. Piszcz, who won the Premier League Pairs title alongside Jason Lyons for Birmingham last season, has been frozen out of British racing this year but has accepted the invitation to return to the second city for the individual event. The event, in memory of Birmingham's former promoter and clerk of the course, will also feature comeback man Chris Kerr. The Californian suffered a broken leg in May and this meeting will be his first piece of action back at Perry Barr. Wolverhampton's Elite League star Ty Proctor is also included along with in-form Coventry man Ben Barker. And Dudley Heathens, who share Perry Barr as a home track, will also be represented with Lee Smart, Jake Anderson and Micky Dyer. Birmingham boss Graham Drury said: "It's a meeting which has attracted a superb line-up and we're looking forward to it. We asked fans for their suggestions in terms of who they would like to see and we have delivered the goods. I think every Birmingham fan wants to see Piszcz again."
  2. I would be VERY shocked indeed if Plymouth turned Dudley over given the awesome form the Heathens are on. Smarty knows the track, as does Jake and when they have raced at Perry Barr they have all looked decent. Especially that Micky Dyer, obviously practicing for when hes in the 2011 Brummies side.
  3. Thats a shame as it would be nice to the IOW back in the Premier League one day but obviously that wont be the case with crowds like that. If your figure is correct then what a difference it is from the crowds the IOW get and Dudley get. Was at Monmore on Tuesday and probably a crowd around the 2000, the stadium was absolutely packed. If Dudley had their own stadium then they would go straight into the Elite League without question with the superb support they get. Even Matt Ford asked to write an article in the Heathens rained off Weymouth Programme to praise the Heathens fans. Fair play to him for doing that.
  4. No I dont think so britmet, but there was the Midland Shield between the Brummies and Wolves in 2007 and 2008. Dont know about this year but the rumour going around is there might be a four team tournament type competition between Wolves, Coventry, Brummies and the Heathens. No date announced but could be at the end of the season, hope it does go ahead.
  5. It honestly doesnt surprise me in the slightest, when the ELRC was at Birmingham in 08 it was a disgrace the way riders were pulling out left right and centre and some very late indeed. Alot of Brummies fans were looking forward to seeing the top riders riding for weeks yet some of them treated us like crap by pulling out so late. Just what is the point of the Super Sevens for the Elite League, for many riders its not one of their priorities with commitments abroad. Theres no point having a second rate EL pairs or ELRC because the paying public are cheated so dont bother with them at all.
  6. What a win for the Heathens and great performances from Brummies Assetts Lee Smart and Jake Anderson.
  7. Taken from the Brummies site: BIRMINGHAM Speedway will pay tribute to one of their favourite sons when they host the Joe Thurley Memorial Trophy at Perry Barr on Wednesday September 15. Thurley was club promoter in the 70s and was also clerk of the course when the sport returned to the city in 2007. More details and a full rider line-up will follow in due course, but in the meantime supporters are asked to email the speedway office with suggestions as to who they would like to see ride in this meeting - office@birminghamspeedway.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Great to see they have decided to run this, last nights meeting was due to be our last home meeting till the KOC semi with Newcastle on the 29th with Dudley riding here a few times. Its fantastic to see them listening to the fans concerns over this and it lets our riders get track time so they arnt race rusty at Perry Barr. Line up (so far) Ben Barker Ty Proctor Jason Lyons Josh Auty Richard Sweetman Aaron Summers Steve Johnston Justin Sedgmen David Howe Kyle Legault Kyle Newman Tomasz Piszcz :approve: Chris Kerr Lee Smart Jake Anderson Micky Dyer Meeting Reserve: Klaus Jakobsen
  8. A superb meeting despite the large scoreline, very disapointed in Newport. Despite Dudleys awesome form of late, I thought Newport stood a chance of getting a point with the side they have. Newports reserves were very poor which meant they always faced an uphill battle plus some of the big guns in main body didnt fire. Todd Kurtz and Tony Atkin disapointed, probably only Mark Jones and Kyle Newman came out with any credit with Preist having one good ride. Kyle only scored 1 from his first 2 rides which included a big crash in his first ride. How he escaped serious injury I will never know but he has Barrie Evans to thank for a quite amazing quick reaction in laying his machine down. If Barrie had gone full pelt into Kyle then it could have been alot worse. Good to see Kyle do well later in the meeting with 7 from his final 3 rides. Dudley were unstoppable, right the way through their team. Ashley Morris was brilliant at reserve, no -one could get near to Lee Smart from his four ride maximum. Barrie Evans stormed to 3 wins out of 3 but had an EF on the startline of Heat 13. Micky Dyer will surely be in the Premier League next season, with hopefully the Brummies , looked really quick. The real star of the night for me was Tom'Fred'Perry and his entertainment value. Its always best when he misses the gate at Monmore as being a track specalist he is so exciting to watch and that proved the case in heat 5 and 12 when he won it the hard way. I know we keep on saying how good the crowds are but last nights was outstanding. Got to be about 2000 there at least as it was so packed on the terracing, felt like a tinned sardine standing there . Also good to see a few Newport fans there making plenty of noise and a good number of fellow Brummies fans, not just the two Porky was taking the piss out of on the straight.
  9. Perry is a fantastic talent, he was at it again last night at Monmore. Hes Box office when he misses the gate and comes from benind like in Heat 5 and Heat 12. Congratulations to 'Fred' Perry.
  10. Making my over for this meeting, hope its a good meeting and GO Kyle Newman!!!
  11. I really would like to wish you all the luck in the world with getting the Tamworth Saxons back on track. As a Brummies fan and a fan of Midlands Speedway its always great to see new tracks open. There really seems to be a feel good factor about the sport in these parts with the huge success of the Heathens, the return of the Leicester Lions for the 2011 season and full planning for the Brummies in a bulit up area. You say theres 3 sites in Tamworth suitable for speedway, even if you come up with opposition just dont give up. We had alot of rocky times trying to secure the Brummies and it will be worth it if you come up successful. Good Luck!!
  12. I see the new date is Tuesday 28th September at Monmore Green, fantastic as Im off work then so will be going downto hopefully a cracking meeting. Will be even better if Kyle Newman is riding too.
  13. It was actually okay upto 2pm with dry pavements yet by 2.30 it closed in pretty quick. A shame as I was planning to go to this as I couldnt get to Kings Lynn. Surprised the re-arranged fixture is back at Perry Barr, theres more Heatens matches at PB in September then Brummies matches.
  14. Glad to see Austin Novratil in the touring team, was very impressed with his performance at Perry Barr in April bearing in mind hes a 15 year old kid. Big future in the sport in my opinion. :approve:
  15. Absolutely right too, I think Sam Masters is a great talent but hes gone down in my book with his actions. People can say it wasnt a big deal but you have a stadium with plenty of kids ( meeting was advertised as £1) that look up to riders like Sam Masters. Its no way to behave, he s a disgrace. You often see words exchange after hard racing but rarely do you see physical contact, okay he only pushed Ty off but its something you dont want to see at a speedway meeting. Well done Referee for fining him.
  16. Decent Meeting, Tai hardly broke out of sweat and won with ease but the race for second was interesting. I thought Klindt would get second but fair play to Kevin Wolbert for such a fantastic performance to get second from the run off with Klindt. Seen Wolbert a bit but that was by far his best performance, really impressive. Expected more from Proctor on his home track but was involved in a spat with Sam Masters in Heat 19. It looked like Proctor cut him up on the straight then when the race finished they squared up on the back straight with Masters pushing Proctor off his bike. I really hope Graham Reeve fined that idiot Masters for doing that.
  17. I dont either Jacques, Its a bit rich coming from a Panthers fan, how many British riders do they have in their 1-7.
  18. GET IN!!!!! :approve: I'll tell you something my humble pie with Custard was very tasty after being quite negative earlier in the week . Fantastic Performance, I have to take my hat off to all of them. No more negativity from me. UP THE BRUMMIES!!!
  19. Will be poping along to Monmore on Monday and it looks an excellent line up. Will be between Tai and Nicolai for the title, alot of racers in the line up so the racing is going to be awesome as per usual at Wolverhampton. Good luck to Richard Sweetman, he might need it I reckon.
  20. Its not on Virgin Media, only the red button for Sky Subscribers. It should be on Sky Sports 2, I can watch it but I feel sorry for people that cant. Farce from Sky, I hope ESPN get intersted in speedway.
  21. Good Point for the Heathens with Lee Smart and Jake Anderson doing very well. I must say I'm a bit surprised with Tom Perrys score but well done Dudley.
  22. My Prediction for Sunday: 1. Newcastle 2. Sheffield 3. Edinburgh 4. Berwick Would love to see the Brummies do it but I really doubt it as when the pressures on we tend to go missing. With the tough group we are in aswell I think it would be a big shock if we won the trophy
  23. Come on Tamworth, the more midland clubs the better.
  24. Its certaintly worth a shot for the Heathens to approach Sandwell Borough Council, there seems to be more open spaces on the outskirts of West Bromwich that could be used for Speedway. Of Coruse theres an RSPB nature reserve in Sandwell and some of the land may be unpractical for speedway due to wildlife concerns. The area to look at is off Newton Road. There is a country park and an RSPB reserve and although its slim its worth a slot. You dont have a vast amount of land like that in the Cradley/Dudley area.
