Elite League Draft Riders
Brummie Kev replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
There will be live tweeting as the draft happens on the Official British Speedway twitter page (@SpeedwayGB), dont know the exact time but sometime this afternoon. -
Welcome back Cowboy , must admit the return of Danny has come as a great surprise to me. Didnt think he would return, especially given its been indicated that Phil Morris wont be back. It seems for Danny anyway that the problem person is not there anymore. Good to at last have someone not leaving but staying that gives us a bit of stability for next year. So with it being a near certainty that Ben will be back and Josh Auty unable to feature in Coventry's plans and given hes signed for Scunny, I think them will be back. Auty I have a few doubts given he didnt do that well at reserve last season but at the same time I felt he did better in the main body, where he will be next year. Danny King 7.46 Ben Barker 6.46 Josh Auty 4.90 leaves 13.18 for the last two riders Question then is will it be: 8/9 pter+ 4/5pter OR 7pter/ 6pter giving us a bit more strength in depth. My feeling is the strength in depth is the way we will go like its been the case in previous years. Kenni Larsen is rider I would not be surprised to see at Perry Barr next year, Drury has tryed to sign him in the past. Newcastle or Coventry Asset?
-
Ben Barker or Troy Batchelor is my guess.
-
Been reported elsewhere that the Brummies website will back up and running on Saturday and the first signing will be announced at 9pm that evening on the website. Lets hope it doesnt crash!!
-
The other alternative is to build an attractive side that costs too much much a bit like this year but look what happened . Riders not payed on time and the owners had to bail the club out through their own company so we didnt fold. It seems Alan wants to stay so why cant he and Tony Mole run it togethor next year and perhaps we could then build a better side. I have massive reservations of Alan running this club alone given the money worries of last season!!
-
Disapointed with the statement to be honest, I feel the statement asks more questions then it answers them. So Chris Luty cuts all ties with the Brummies and Alan is taking sole charge. I worry about that because look at the last 2 years and how much money this club has lost, thats with 2 owners so does Alan really have money to fund EL speedway himself. Also the club has no Commercial Manager and Sponsorship is KEY to us at this level, cant rely on good crowds all the time. So getting a new commercial manager is a must for next season asap but theres no mention in the statement. In the Mail today, it says Tony Mole approached the owners to take over the club and I would have liked that. It might have meant Phil and Danny could return also but sadly that seems to be gone now. No big names next year if Phillips is running it alone, will be built on an even stricter budget then in previous seasons.

Good to see Bech in the Elite League, fantastic signing for the Hammers and expect him to get dialled into the track pretty quick.
-
Thanks for the offer, nice to at least see one Coventry fan care but I hope Phil can return to the Brummies if there is a change of ownership
-
Skidder1, the article below the Morris one about King has Alan Phillips thoughts about whats gone on, so you are wrong. Chris Luty refused to give his thoughts when he resigned yesterday and Joe McL gave his reasons for resigning on the Brummies forum. So its not all about Morris, its just you seem to have a dislike for him!!
-
Read more about the Soap Opera in the Speedway Star and the more I read, the more infuriated I get by it . Its a disgrace whats gone on, Morris was instrumental in our success last year and deserves like all the riders to get paid. In his meeting with Luty at the end of October, Luty was astounded with the things Phil told him. I mean hes was the co-owner for godsake and he has had no idea what went on, or did he know but tryed to dodge all the issues. Phil was given a personal promise from Luty that the money he's owed would be sorted within 48 hrs of that meeting with Chris Luty, and as of the article in the Star he hasnt recieved that money. Artcle also states that Morris was prepared to stay under new ownership and it appears talks were under way on a takeover but they stalled which is why Morris quit when he did. So I wonder whether Phil would come back even now if there were new owners at the Brummies. Whether it was all Chris Luty's fault and nothing to do with Phillips or vicer versa or anyone in the managment, at the end of the day Alan and Chris are in charge of the club and the buck stops with them. I really think they should step down and allow some other people to takeover the club, there seems to have been interest and really pray to god there still is. How can we attract the best riders or sponsorship with whats gone on, they will know all the issues and will be releuctant to sign. We need new ownership, Morris to return and more of a postive feeling about the club and an end to all this nonsense!!!!

On the sports radio show, Graham Drury said the BSPA are negotiating with 3 tv companies, with I suspect them two companies involved. Who would be the third company I wonder? .
-
Same here, was disappointed when Bratley left. Cant see Gary Patchett returning didnt work out well for him last time , think he will focus solely on the Heathens next season.
-
Will the last person to leave the Brummies please turn out the lights What a mess!!
-
Joe McLaughlin the commercial manager has resigned with immediate effect!!!!
-
So another leaves, given there was an approach for Danny prior to the AGM plus he went to an Ice Hockey match in Mick Hortons box I am not surprised. He wont be the last either, so after one of the best seasons this club has had we have now become a laughing stock , that has lass our team manager and Captain who had been with us for 3 season's have walked. . Alan said in the artlcle yesterday tat he thought Phil saying he was working with amateurs was out of order. Well looking in from the outside, how would you explain the absence of a website. Imagine if a football team, Premier League or Football League went without a website for a month, the media and fans would be saying the same thing. Agreeing to buy Ben Barker then going back on the deal made us look terrible, cutting off BBC WM who give the sport fantastic exposure made no sense. Even going back to 2012 when I remember Alan talking to the fans over the PA during a match against Eastborune or Kings Lynn, he was incredibly negative talking about the poor crowds and saying that less money would be spent next year. The crowds may not have been good, but you dont broadcast that message to your hardcore sport that go week in week out, they wernt the problem. I would love to see Tony Mole come back to be honest, did a great for the Brummies and we had none of this crap when he was in charge. I know he's involved in Bradford but even if he could come back in a short term agreement then it would be great. What this club needs is stability, the only way to get that is to get to the root cause of the problem so this matter can be resolved and we can move forward. At the minute who is going to want to sign for the Brummies

Leicester 2014 . Elite
Brummie Kev replied to jim the whipper's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Welcome to the EL Leicester, good to see a new midlands club in the league. -
Really feel for the Panthers fans tonight, was very surprised and disapointed that they wont be in the Elite League next season. Fingers crossed someone is found to take over and the Panthers can race on next season. I went to the EOES for the first time last season, and it would be a massive blow to the sport to lose a track as good as that, best track I have been to. Sad Day

The biggest problem i have for 2014 if we race and regardless of whether its Elite or Premier, is just who will want to ride for the Brummies given the riders and the team manager have not been paid on time this year!! Just has tweet saying Alan Phillips will be on BBC WM's drivetime show about 16:20 to talk about the Phil Morris departure.
-
Two word's sum up the situation for me, they are ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES. For a club that finished Elite League runners up, its unbelieveable to find us in this postion . I dont blame Phil at all for resigning given whats been going on, it just seems like the club is in meltdown. Look at whats happened this year, we had the Barker situation, riders not getting paid, the website getting suspended, BBC WM barred from covering home matches, the club almost not finishing the season and now the Team Manager who worked wonders to get us to the final walks out. Alan Phillips we need answers!! Thanks Phil for everything this year, and best wishes for the future.

So with the promotors conference this weekend it would have been nice to hear from the owners about their intentions for the Brummies next season. Says in the Star that its unclear whether the Brummies will race on next season and at what level, I dont think fans should be kept in the dark. You obviously cant say things for certain before the AGM but it would have been nice to hear from Alan Phillips about his intentions, instead it's been left to Graham Drury and Phil Morris. Drury says he's been asked 'a million times' about Birmingham Speedway next season but says 'he really doesnt know' and he's the co-promotor!!

Congratulations to Danny King on becoming a father, his son was born this morning

Team Gb - Middlo Quits!
Brummie Kev replied to Barry The Cat's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I really hope Phil gets the job, he did an awesome at Brum last year I personally believe it was his motivational skills and man management that played a big part in what we did. There was alot of off track issues at Brum and it would have been easy for heads to drop and performance s too but it didnt. Alongside him I would love to see Mark Loram as his assistant, would offer alot to the GB setup -
Brummies finished with the same 7 that started the season, amazing given the injury problems of previous years. Will be there interesting to see how many return, 2 already gone and no idea what league we are riding in next year.
