Just picked up on the French topic so forgive me if I have missed something. I remember Ray Liston who tried to get into English Speedway in the 60s but didn't really do any good, but I am sure he was involved to a greater extent riding in France. Anyone sort me out on this one?

Bobbath, I viewed the Range Rider Film sites and was ready to order Volumes 1-5 but discovered that my UK DVD Player may not be suitable so I emailed them to ask for the spcifications. They came back very quick and said that The format required is 'Region 1' and they doubted that mine would be suitable. Any thoughts? Best wishes

Bobbath You are brilliant, many thanks

2010 Grand Prix Contenders
Brian Hamilton replied to TonyMac's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Not sure why so many go for Rico as he is well past his sell by date in GP terms. Tai, Chris Holder are much better bets I feel and I think Bomber should get one more crack at it as I feel he was a little unlucky in some of his outings.; Certainly not Scotty. -
Gollob - 2010 Race Suspension?
Brian Hamilton replied to a topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I do hope that the GP Administrators/FIM hand out a significant ban on Gollob. He has done this before albeit a few years ago and is not only dangerous but could affect the whole result of a race and or meeting. He is a great rider but a very ill-mannered and ignorant man. -
Very sad news of Eric's passing. I was fortunate to have seen him at Oxford riding for New Cross although it was at the end of his career. However, it was a privilege to have had the opportunity of seeing him ride. R.I.P. Eric

Swc - The Race Off
Brian Hamilton replied to Sandie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
WEll I think it was agreat team effort and Rico please forgive me for saying that I thought you should be left out. You rode fantastic and I do think that you produced your best ever performance for GB! It was a shame that we did not perform as well in the last few heats but it did give us a great deal more hope than I ever thought we had up to then. I thought the track was not as good as I expected but I suppose Ole O had a lot to do with that. -
Swc Race-off
Brian Hamilton replied to Danish Webmaster's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I am inclined to agree in a perverse sort of way. However, Although I am not a great fan of Scotty, I just think we might have had an outside chance of runners up after looking at the race card. In fact I think we still would have an outside chance if we left out Rico for Scotty! I cant wait for it, I have been worked up for it since Monday and it should be a fantastic Meeting.... -
Bobbath, Now there's a name that I dont recall coming up on here! I remember him well but I am sure he dropped out of racing in mid-late 60s.

Hi Star Ghost, I think it was but Oxford were given the choice of what ridre to release on this occasion. The Rider Control Board also moved Genno away from Oxford to Poole in the mid-sixties.

Miro, I remember the accident well as I was standing on the little wooden stand coming out of the third bend just past the old supporters club bar. Rick I understand, actually died and they brought him back ti life if that makes sense. Rick was a really good Cheetahs rider but never actually moved up to a higher level. He always put 100% in and was always good to watch. However, I was bitterly disappointed when we let Genno go for Tommy Roper, it was a massive mistake. Brian

Sorry to digress from the main content of Event 2 but is there any news on Nikki Pedersen's injuries? Apologies if I have missed the thread. Brian -

I really enjoyed the meeting but thought that the breaks after each 5 heats were a bit long. I think the Manager did the right thing and give the youngsters a chance and to be honest it highlighted the inexperience at this level from Eddie and Tai, but they desreved a chance. I hionestly dont think that Richardson will do any good in the play-offs and his International career must be more or less at an end and Scotty is getting close to a similar stage in his career. Lets be honest, there has been any chance of Team GB winning this year or even being second so The Manager is looking to the future and giving the 'new kids on the block' a grounding this year I believe to be the right decision. I am sure that we have done this before and the end result was Jimmy Squibb & Gordon Mcgregor

Ove Fundin Latest News Letter (october 2010)
Brian Hamilton replied to Jim Blanchard's topic in Years Gone By
Hi Bobbath, had problems with password but all sorted now. Yes I remember Arne very well, he rode his first meeting for Oxford on Good Friday 1959 whuich was also my first meeting. Arne was a great rider and would certainly have got to a World Final had he not been so badly injured at Brandon. Although Genno was my all time favourite Arne had the ability to have gone all the way had ghe treached a final! He was so brave and Rode for Oxford at times with his wrist in plaster and his ankle in plaster(not at the same time though). I dont remember him as a loner as he used to visit local Cycle Speedway tracks ( I went with him and a mate of mine to a Great Milton Rockets meeting one Sunday afternoon)and watch some of there meetings. He always liked a drink and I think a very good bloke. -

Well said Bobath, I can remember his run off with Peter Craven and Ronnie Mopore at Wembley in 1960. It was the first time I had ever been to the stadium, I was 12 and my father took me. I can also remember many times that Ove rode at Cowley and one race in particular where Ronnie Genz went round the back on the last bend to beat him. I have afeeling that it was about a week after Ove's World Final win in 1960(September). Ove was a Great Champion -
Certainly was scottish and I spoke to him at Oxford many times when I was a lad. I used to go over to the Cowley Stadium in my school lunch hour and have a look round the pits and the first time that I did hee frightened me to death when he shouted at me to ask what i was doing!! Later, I got Gordon and the then Team Manager Ted Flanagan to come to my Boys Club and present our annual trophies. Bit of useless info there, but fond memories for me.
