No grand prix scheduled for Sweden?? I read Maililla wouldn't be staging in 2027 - maybe the TBC date will be for a different Swedish venue? Be a major blow for the sport if Sweden can't host a round.

Was speaking to some Marske United fans at the Workington Reds game this afternoon - they had driven over via the A66 and said the journey was fine. If possible traffic delays are to be added to the ever growing list of reasons for cancelling a fixture the sport may as well shut up shop now!

Why shouldn't a Poole fan be able to ask about the weather in Workington?- it's an open forum! Been bone dry all day in Workington - warm with sunny periods. Perfect compared to most parts of the country especially for football - or speedway. Nearly a 1000 fans turned up at Derwent Fibrus Park for the Workington Reds game. So if the speedway had been on I would imagine the crowd would definitely be on the low side.

I totally agree that SJA is right to raise the issue that there will be creditors of the old trading company who will have lost out financially. I wonder if Comets fans who want to conveniently brush that under the carpet and move on would be as forgiving if they were owed money? Have a bit of sympathy for those who won't get a penny back of any monies they were owed. It's no wonder speedway in this country has reached a crisis point when so many questionable business practices are accepted as normal and acceptable!

Yes checking Companies House you find that Northside Speedway Training Track who I gather hold the licence for Workington Comets have been wound up/dissolved. So in effect the Comets operating company no longer exist as a legal entity. I am assuming a new company may be in the process of being formed with an intention to take over the licence. Any creditors owed money by Northside Speedway Training Track will be the big losers here as they won't get a penny.

Same problem every time I try to purchase a copy of the Star and use a self scan check out - the barcode not recognized. Tried purchasing at WH Smith in Carlisle and Workington and the barcode would not scan and staff had to enter manual code. They said always happens with Speedway Star! And it's not just WH Smith were the barcode for the Star won't scan. Same problem at Morrisons and Asda!!! There is definitely some issue with the damn barcode!!!

The Reds have been enjoying bumper crowds of late and are definitely on the crest of a wave following their promotion last season when they averaged nearly 800 a game for 8th Tier football. The recent pre-season friendly against Carlisle United attracted over 1500 fans in atrocious weather and I would expect their opening 23/24 NPL fixture will see a 1,000 plus crowd. With Comets choosing to run at the traditional 3pm kick off time for the Reds I think they will see a noticeable drop in their attendance. They will have the same problem when they go head to head with the Reds next Saturday fixture on August 26th.

Does anyone know what became of the proposed plans to revive speedway across the Irish Sea? Think a guy who was involved with Shelbourne speedway in the early 1970s was behind it(Trevor Redmond?)and he'd found a site in Dublin where he was seeking planning permission...there was also talk of a possible track in Limerick??
