I seem to remember Mick Grant or Ron Haslam in it too, think it may have been at Wolverhampton, I remember watching it on TV and the track conditions were atrocious! I think they may have had a go at Karting too . How many speedway riders competed??

Does anyone remember or have any information about a competition called Superbike 6 in the late 1970's. From what i remember it was top riders from speedway, road racing, motocross etc and they all had to compete in each others sports, Where was the speedway event held and what year??

Theres a new group on facebook called Penhall Museum, it has my extensive collection of original race used gear - helmets, leathers, race jackets from Bruces career. Along with photos, memorabilia etc, i will be adding more over the coming months. log on and become a member.

I have just acquired a Briggo race jacket but not sure of the year or meeting and need any help with identifying it. It has on the front a union jack so might be from the days when New Zealand raced under the Great Britain flag, it has gold edging and the number 14 on the back. World team cup final???? . . . . . .any ideas greatefully received!

Thanks for that much appreciated,the league cup when it was introduced in1981 did cause the Northern trophy to be dropped for that year.Wonder why it wasnt contested for so long after 1966?. Can anyone fill the gaps in after 1982??

I probably did get mixed up with the Northern riders championship!.What year did the competition start and was one trophy used throughout or did they change it at some point?

Yes thats me!, im constructing a website dedicated to my extensive Bruce Penhall collection. Didnt want it to leave my pocession but at the same time wanted to showcase it somehow and a website seems like a good solution. I have many important race jackets from BP's career including Cradley, world final, pairs, team cup and intercontinental, Overseas, test series, helmets, leathers, boots, bike covers, medals. Also the flag from the 82 world final at the LA Coliseum.

Bakersfield Bandits won the league in 1976, it was promoted by Digger Helm. Otheer teams were the Ventura Sharks who Bobby Schwartz rode for. LA Sprockets that rode at irwindale had Bruce Penhall and Mike Bast. Costa Mesa Eagles had Rick Woods. San Bernardino Sizzlers made up the league with a young Dennis Sigalos and Jim Fishback in the team. The meetings had a last race that was nominated, the fans didnt warm to it as they were deprived of seeing all the favourite riders week in week out. Team racing was also tried in 72 with the Costa Mesa Lions. Bakersfield Bandits, Ventura Chargers, Irwindale Eagles.

Thats right he did become a born again Christian and did try to show Kelly the error of his ways! . . for a short while. Rapid Ron rode in the US speedway league in 1976 for the San Bernardino Sizzlers and was a works rider for Ken Maely till about 78.Came over in 1979 to Poole and showed considerable promise before a knee injury effectively ruined his career. Went to Eastbourne in 1982 but only showed flashes of his old self. Won the European junior championship in 79 and a regular in the USA v england test matches. He promoted his own track at El Centro in California for a short while staging the Denny Pyeatt Memorial Trophy. There was an interview with him a while back in Backtrack Magazine for anyone that wants to know more about this underrated American rider.

I have noticed lately that the Workshop website is unavailable. I always enjoyed having a look on there for technical advice on older machines, found it very useful. Is there are any plans to get it up and running again???
