Greg & Billy both didnt ride this year, so it was a weakend field... I do appreciate what you are saying but to address Janiro as a joke is just insulting. Going off track a bit, the yanks are struggling at the moment but these things tend to go in cycles. There was a time in the 90's when they took over from the Danes & were winning eveything & the Aussies were very much struggling to compete on the world stage, Poles were pretty much non existant & the Brits were, well the Brits... At the moment it's the Danes, Poles & Aussies are the dominant forces, but you never know what the future holds.

Please tell me how he is a joke? I see Billy J, tho not a world beater, a good team man & consistant Elite league performer. If he was that much of a joke he wouldnt be brought back into Coventry's team every year, helping them to win league titles and cup competitions. Are you suggesting Colin Pratt doesn't have an idea of which riders are good and which are, as you put it, a 'joke'

Thaaaaaaaaaaank you.

What Western riders are in the Vladivostok team? And what night do they race? Im moving to Tokyo soon & I think that might be my only route to watching league Speedway!
-
Can anyone tell me of any speedway fixtures they know of in Aussie in January 2009. Many thanks, Tex
-
Is it 20 heats and then a final again like in previous years? I remember a few years ago PK coming 4th in the final & missing out even though he top scored in the meeting. Though that was very harsh.

My apologies, I wasn't trying to rile anyone, I just mean Dryml has been a wee bit of a wasted place this year.. as has KK and many others in years gone by.
-
I'd also like to see top 8 from this year qualify for next & the old GP challenge with the bottom 8 plus 8 qualifiers trying to get into next year. Also I would like to see after round 2, the bottom 2 riders taken out of the GP and replaced with 2 form riders. Would get rid of watsers like Dryml making up the numbers.

Does anybody know a link where I can watch tonight's GP on the Web? I'm in Tokyo and really want to watch it. Thanks, Tex

Lynch can't be blamed, it was just an awful performance by the riders. Cue usual bullsht excuses.. Track was slick, couldnt get the set up right, weather was bad, it was time of the month, it was my dog's cousins birthday..

The Cardiff Grand Prix Discussion Thread
RPNY replied to PhilK's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I have to say I thought it was a great day all round. Pre meeting entertainment was excellent, the racin was good, if not as spectacular as Copenhagen 2 weeks ago or last years British GP, the DJ was brilliant, (only mistake being thinking Adams had pipped Hancock on the line & playing land down under.) Loved the I'm a W***er wen the ref messed up again! The atmosphere was superb again & the Brits did us proud. But Scotty, what a wally! All in all cracking day out. -
I was there on Saturday & have to say I thought it was a great GP. Good track, plenty of passing The Danish crowd were brilliant. If not the drunkest group of people Ive ever seen! Plenty of support for the home riders, but they dont like anyone else (unlike Cardiff where most riders get supported well) In heats 4 & 5 I started to cheer when Scotty on Bomber hit the front (birefly). All the Danes in the seats near by looked like they were gonna lynch me! And they took great delight in pointing and shouting once Niki soon got into the lead! With regards to the Brits I was again disappointed, but this being my 8th or so away GP, I cant say I was suprised. Bomber was awful, a shadow of the man who won me £300 in Cardiff last year.. Scotty was Scotty.. Terrible 1st ride, slow out the starts, loads of effort, galliant in defeat again. By the end of the meeting he was well on the pace. But he cant keep on having only 4 scoring rides and expect to make the semi's. With regards to Dryml/Lindgren, I though it was Dryml's fault but not the worst ref decision Ive ever seen... All in all, a great GP, dont think people could really complain. I would tho like it if after ever 2/3 GPS the bottom 3 riders were dropped out & replaced with the current top ranking riders in the 3 leagues.. Think that would keep the series exciting. However, it might mean loosing the Brits!

Slovenian Grand Prix
RPNY replied to driver17561's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I though it was a very good GP. Obviously the weather spoliled it for a bit, but towards then end the overtaking picked up again.. So there was an advantage coming off of gates 1&2. Doesnt mean that the racing wasnt good does it. There was loads of overtaking & I for one am happy that some fresher faces were in the mix for the big points. -
Not a bad first heat for both the brit boys... I cant wait for the new GP season!

No doubting it will be a good show and great track, I have nothing but praise for the club.. But having a National event there is totally unfair IMO -

World Final V Grand Prix
RPNY replied to longlivefrankie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Im not saying It's caused the downfall of our league at all.. I was just illustrating that if certain riders were made to choose between BEL & the GP's they would follow their world championship goal.. However that decision will never have to be made, instead they will be made to choose between which leagues they compete in. In fact riders such as Gollob, AJ, Hampel have contemplated a return to BEL because of of the GP's.. -
I like the one local one inform Wild Card idea.

But why would they do that? -

Because that is the prime day for running speedway in Britain Well we need to adapt with the times dont we.. So they do it for love, do they? A friend of mine who is Ex GP rider told me earlier this season that Crumpy, Nikki they dont ride in BEL for the money, they do it to be the best. Look at AJ going back to Arena. He CERTAINLY doesnt need the money. Dont get me wrong they dont loose money doing it, but the money they make in BEL is peanuts in comparison to Poland & even Sweden. I wonder how many would prioritise the world championship though if they were told they have to choose between it or league racing. T Rik quit BEL basically because of GP commitments, so did Hancock, Billy did in days gone by, so did PK in the past.... Many have done it.. We have to face up to the fact that speedway isnt all about BEL Racing anymore. -

and Tuesdays (for the Swedish Elite League) were settled upon because that was the one day when most Swedish riders didn't compete in the British leagues. That was a point I was making - and it's the main reason why Poland race on Sundays too. We have every other day of the week to choose from, yet we still complain that we miss 10/11 Saturdays a seaon because of GP's.. With regard to where the riders earn most of their money, well it's actually Poland.. but yes you are correct it's more in the BEL then it is in the GP's. But the top boys dont ride in the BEL for the money... & it's not BSI's fault that the GP riders sacrafice some BEL meetings because the world championship means more too them? I can tell you that there were plenty of riders who missed meetings when the World final was approaching.. Also not sure about you Sport on Sundays tradition in Catholic countries.. I'm gonna have to check on that -

Does make me laugh that BSI are still being blamed for problems in the Elite league.. The Swedish & Polish promoters for years had to deal with the fact they had 1 NIGHT to hold their speedway meetings as the British league held all the cards & could stage meetings on any night they wanted.. Did they moan? No they realised what they were working with & got on with it. If the Elite league promoters got together & tried to help each other, then a lot of the problems would be resolved.. But I guess some will always blame the GP's for our leagues shortcommings. As for indivdual meetings in Britain being less than days gone by, make them finacially worth it like they were back then & you may see them reappearing.. Also dont completely (ock it up like the EL riders championship this year..
