Stockholm Gp Saturday September 24th
RPNY replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Such a shame that the GP's have gone to the Friends Arena in the post TRik era as it is a wonderful Stadium and I for one hope they keep a GP in Stockholm as it's a beautiful city. I thought it was a decent GP. Some good racing a few incidents but the atmosphere was a little flat except for when Fast Freddie was scoring his points. It must have been disappointing for the locals that they had 4 riders and 3 were very ordinary to say the least. If Lindback was in Cardiff form it could have been a whole different story. -
I still think the SWC is a superb competition and the racing year in year out is superb. However, they need to do something to stop riders drifting away and taking it as the opportunity for a mid season week off. The fact that is essentially what Hancock and Nikki did this year and what Tai is going to do next year saddens me. Hopefully they can get this situation sorted. The big name Russians coming back this year was a huge plus, let's hope it continues in that vein.

Any news on how ticket sales are going? Wasn't awful last year but still not as many as they would of hoped for by the look of it... -
You are right in what you say, but at absolute best we (Brits) would have 2 or 3 riders competing in the SEC/Pairs. There arent that many Saturday tracks these days and Lambert and Cook for example would not have even been affected this year as their clubs dont run on Saturdays. So with a little bit of tweaking and common sense, the riders could enter the SEC and the British fixtures wouldn't be effected But what are the chances of common sense prevailing...

Wildcards 2017.....

Well this is true, but if he wants to come back it's unlikely he'll have to go through that as he'll get a WC pick! -

But we have Wild Cards too. I'm not disagreeing with your principals, but if we have the option, why put in a lesser rider? -

World Championship should also have the best riders. Which he is. And not only one of the best but also one of if not the most exciting riders in the world. I fully understand your gripes but I feel this is one of those circumstances where they make an exception. -
I understand and appreciate your dedication to our domestic league, however the fact is the same BSPA that want succes on the international stage are also hampering the British lads by not letting them enter competitions like this. The SEC is a perfect introduction to that level of racing. It would be a massive benefit for them.

Nicki Pedersen Injured.

Felt it was a shame Darcy had to comment. Of course the timing of NP's injury didn't help with the reaction it caused.. -

Emil should be in the GPs im sorry not even an argument -

I understand people having gripes with Emil as he chose to drop out, however he'd had a run of horrendous injuries, lost his father and (probably most importantly) had a manger who was discouraging him to do the series. To my knowledge he's never been a diva or trouble maker he chose to sit it out till body, mind & finances were in the right place. I think it would be silly to have another series without Emil just for the sake of it -
You have Nailed it there sir.

It is insane there aren't any British riders in either of these. I know there are fixture clashes as etc, but bigger picture is people like Cook, King, Lambert & others would benefit massively from competing in these. Madness people aren't encouraging their participation in it. Added to that, very good series to watch.

2017 Grand Prix Venues
RPNY replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Watching it on TV it came across ok (not the best GP but by no means awful) and riders & fans alike seemed to ha e enjoyed it. Not too sure why there are people being negative. We're never going to have 11 Cardiffs... -

In their defense though, it's not an uncommon scenario. Venues for F1 for example are the same year in year out.. -

Entitled to your opinion but I really think it's hard to call it stale. The racing has been superb this year. Having been to Cardiff & Warsaw I can only describe them as superb spectacles. Although I'm in favor of new venues I will also hold my hands up and say they have a good mix of great stadiums and tracks now. I don't like there being 3 Polish GPs but the fact is, Warsaw was great, Gorzow was (again) great and I've never seen a bad GP at Torun. So how can you really argue with that. In my opinion (worth nothing of course) we're two riders short of it being the best series possible. -

Fair enough mate. Probably just sour grapes on my behalf! -

That was the official reason but I still don't believe it. Plus there was a column in the SS about a month previous saying the rumor mill was already churning that it was going to be called off! I'm a massive fan of the GP's (unlike yourself!) but that one in particular left somewhat of a sour taste. I traveled to Warsaw and although it was annoying and somewaht of an embarassement you could tell it was Rookie errors, stuborn riders and a combination of misfortune that led to its premature ending. Gelsenkirchen... there was something fishy there! -

I was always surprised it never took off in Spain either. They like their Motorcycles down there, perfect climate. All arrows pointed to it being a popular - other than no one had any interest hahahaha -

Yes, my point exactly! To your second point, yes it would be easier if there were Poles fighting for the world title but with probably 4 young Poles in the series from next season, at least two that speak perfect English and have the major energy drinks sponsors backing them, it could be a good opportunity. Anyway again as I said the Polish thing is just one example. I still say good promotion alone could make a GP work in that area. It's works with Supercross where there are no local riders or Poles/Latinos etc to help sell it. -

iris123 -But by the time Adamek fought in Newark he was already a 2 time world champ and having his 37th fight.Hardly an unknown and like you mention Szpilka was fighting for a world title. Not really the unknowns you said in your earlier post Speedway really lacks those ethnic minorities that you mention anyway apart from Poles. No Irish or Italian or German or Latinos in the series to sell tickets They were not widely know to the locals who eventually came to see the fight, they were sold to them is the point I am trying to make. As could Polish riders coming to a ONE OFF WORLD TITLE event. Anyway I'm clearly wrong and we shouldn't bother trying for a GP anywhere else outside the current markets. Well that was my original point was that they dont seem to have tried much on holding a GP on anywhere other than LA. But as you say good to chew the fat get differing opinions
