  1. You will never stop progress. They wont dumb down their equipment in the UK when in GPs, SEC, Polish league, Swedish league etc they are all searching for every bit of extra speed they can. They tried that in 95 with no laydowns in UK. Despite the fact it saved money top riders ALL complained it was holding them back. Charles Wright is a dam good and exciting rider correct, but could he be progressing more if he was concentrating more (or solely) on his racing. More than likely. Your theory is absolutely correct however its just not realistic unfortunately. As for the Moto X boys yes they are self funding. However that is the norm. In Speedway its a paid league(s) that's the standard been set it isnt going to change. If it does it will go completely amateur and we will be left with a standard the equivalent of the current National League, or worse. There are teams running right now that prove it can be financially viable. The rest need to follow.
  2. It is staggering. And Unique to our sport which to outsiders makes it laughable. The argument against 6 rider teams used to be those riders will just ask for more money so it actually wont be cost effective. Well now the argument has to be we dont have enough riders so it needs to be cut down to 6. 2 heat leaders 2 second string & 2 reserves not such a bad idea in my opinion anyway. British speedway is struggling but there are positives there to work with. There are successful clubs (not just on track) that can lead the way for the rest. Their blueprint must be followed. Really tho the basics must be in place at EVERY track. 1. Set race nights. 2. Well prepared tracks. this is essential and there must be punishments in place for those who do not come up to scratch. 3. timing of the meeting. 15 races at a minute a piece, barring a terrible injury, unacceptable for speedway meeting to run over 2 hours. After that there are many things that in my belief are obvious & fairly cheap/simple solutions to helping get the crowds back. Competitive admission prices Good/Fun/Modern presentation. This includes a good center green presenter on the mic, decent music in between heats, no lulls in action Track covers. How more tracks do not have these with the temperamental British weather I do not know. Meet and greet with riders before/after the meeting There are many more ideas of course, barrybishop outlined what they do at IOW and he seems to have it pretty much spot on. The opportunity is there to make it so much better. And really its nothing that complicated.
  3. I was there 2012 when it went down the the wire and it was pretty bloody good. Thats the spirit...
  4. Quite agree. We would go every year to the British, Commonwealth & Overseas Finals, loved those meetings. Would be a mad scramble to find what channel the World final would be on then find a friend who had Sky/Cable and could (VHS) record it for us! However times have changed and GP series give us the opportunity to see multiple 'world finals' every year.
  5. Only in your opinion Ive been going to GPs since 2004 and seen many unbelievable meetings.
  6. 2 Duff GPs in Teterow now, but seems to be a lively well supported event. Prague had a number of naff GPs then the last 3 yearsd have been superb so it might improve.
  7. Well from this thread we can see as is often the case in life, some are happy others aren't - Not a huge surprise really! What I would say, if Speedway in the UK was run anything like that in Poland it would see crowds go up massively. I know that's quite the obvious statement but having been able to watch it regularly for the first time this season, it really is a cut above. I don't mean just the top level riders they have, the presentation, the track preparation, the quickness/slickness of how its run. I mean the blueprint is there for the BSPA to follow...
  8. Yup, we are generally creatures of habit, a set race night would certainly help the cause.
  9. You could say that for numerous Football, Rugby & Cricket teams too. Im not saying there isnt a problem Im saying if ANYTHING is run badly it will struggle. On the flip side Rye have had great crowds this year. Im genuinely not trying to annoy you just showing you a different side of the argument.
  10. I dont think the crowds are any lower then the 90s when I lost my track (Rye House) for almost 10 years. At that point I can remember people back then saying its not like the days of Olsen, Penhall, Carter etc... British speedway needs major tweaking yes. How people watch live sport has changed yes. Is Speedway in general on a downward spiral? in my opnion absolutely not.
  11. To be honest I think this is just the age old generation argument. Most of us look at what went before us as being better than what it was today. Goes for pretty much any sport. "It's not like it used to be" is a much spoken about topic. I bet you can go back 10 years on this forum and see a similar thread and in another 10 years you will see another similar thread. I bet on the whole Swindon, Belle Vue Wolves Rye House fans are enjoying their Speedway these days. Kings Lynn no so much. All comes down to how the club you support is run really. Not to say the sport over here isnt without its problems. But as previously mentioned on here, the GPhas been outstanding this season. The UK playoffs with be epic with massive crowds. It's not all doom and gloom.
  12. I just dont get this ideal that you cant criticize British Speedway just because it's a starting ground for a lot of riders. Plenty of people are happy to get a job and after a few years have many grumbles about it. As I said before I dont like what a moaning complaining madam he's become, but in this instance he is right.
  13. Liked Doyle, now I don't he's become very whiny. However, he's spot on with everything he said this time.
  14. Thats a sketchy definition of a Winner, but as you wish Sir.
  15. Hard to say More when there was none the first time and again none the second time.
  16. Ok well getting back to the Original subject... Was a controversial exclusion. Smolly definitely not popular in the GP pits only got to see some of the riders past and present on Twitter comment on him to realize that. On the flip side Pawlicki does hit the deck a lot... Be interesting to see how it plays out the rest of the series.
  17. Pawlicki is the cause of more stoppages in the SGP then any other rider in the history of the series. Nicki P included!
  18. Doyle still favorite but have a sneaky suspicion u are right
  19. He rode to aggressively, still does IMO. That particular crash was not his fault but wasnt a massive surprise that he was involved in a big bang like that eventually. That being said, he deserved to be World Champion last year. Much like Sudden Sam was back in the day, hes been very unlucky & I hope he does get his world title eventually. Although Ermolenko's was a long time coming...
  20. Correct. Holder been off Form (Melbourne 2016 aside) for a while now.
  21. Dudek is still in with a shot of being world champion and there are 2 Polish GPs left!
  22. Want a Rye Win but a return to form for Cookie!
