  1. What has Coventry done to deserve those two?!
  2. It's only been announced today, hasn't it?
  3. What happened to all the posts between 10.12am and 2.45pm?!!
  4. Yes indeed, I am sure he will do very well for the Lions. The team does look well balanced and should be up there at the and of the season. I will definitely be making my first visit to Beaumont Park in 2013 now!! It is a good track/stadium by all accounts!
  5. Really disappointed we won't be be riding against the Lions next season. Anyway looks like the promotion don't have a big problem with it: Leicester Lions' bid to join the Elite League has been put on hold for 12 months. British Speedway bosses decided at their annual general meeting that there would be no addition to the sport's top flight, and that it would remain at 10 clubs. Their primary consideration was that, in the current economic climate, it was in the best interest of all parties that the balance of both the Elite and Premier Leagues should be maintained. Although the Lions remain hugely ambitious, they were happy to agree and be part of the bigger picture. In addition, it may only delay their top-flight dream by 12 months as British Speedway has invited them to re-apply at the end of next season. Lions co-promoter Alan Jones said: "You have to remember that we are in a very difficult economic climate. "Everybody is struggling to make ends meet and speedway is no different. "In the Premier League, the nearest track to Leicester is Sheffield, some 75 miles away. Yet, in the Elite League, there are four clubs – Birmingham, Coventry, Peterborough and Wolverhampton – based a lot nearer. "Leicester fans wanting to watch Elite League speedway would go there. If we had gone up, then these other clubs may have lost this fringe support. "Given the times we are in, it was felt it was time to support one another. "We could, potentially, damage another club's business, so it was seen as being in the best interests of British speedway that we remained in the Premier League. "We can re-apply next year. We are a big-city club who would add value to the Elite League. We are only two years old but David (Hemsley, promoter) and myself still have a vision to be in the top flight." Now, the Lions are turning their attention to recruitment. "We have already started talking to riders," said Jones. "Some of them are part of last season's successful team, others are new faces. We want continuity though, and we are hoping some familiar faces will be returning. "Everything was put on hold until we knew which league we would be in, but we will, hopefully, announce our first signing in the next few days." Plans are in place for changes to the track in February, which the Lions hope will produce more exciting racing. There is a bonus for fans, too – season ticket and admission prices will remain the same for the third year running.
  6. They may want an inflated amount but if people/organisations are not prepared to pay over the odds then they wont get what they want. I do appreciate however, with a speedway facility, it is a completely different matter as you cant just walk away and lay down a track elswhere just like that. I do sympathise with your plight. Is the deadline of this weekend (the BSPA AGM) an immovable date?
  7. I am not questioning what was said at the meeting.........obviously. It just seemed a strange thing to say without any other reference to the fact that it is a catholic school. Sorry.
  8. What has the fact that it is a catholic school got to do with it? At the end of the day they own the land if they want a certain price or don't want to sell it that is their perrogative.
  9. Yes indeed, very likeable man. Does anyone know if he has any plans to do anymore Sky commentary in 2011?
  10. .............and whatever it takes, Poole and Matt Ford are never, ever, going to let that happen again!!
  11. I think you are rather out of order Speedibee, with regards to your comments about Leigh Adams. His professionalism and sportsmanship is great example to any young aspiring speedway riders. Whatever he has earnt during his career he has thoroughly deserved. With regards to retirement, how do you know that he will actually have means of income generated from the sport for the future? I am not informed as to what future business plans he has in place but good luck to him.
  12. Gave up, is that in the interests of the sport?!!!!!!!!!
  13. Cant see him going to a team that 'bottles it' when it really matters!!!
  14. Can you really understand the intelligence of some posters to start a thread such as this and invite all this derision towards their team, including from their own supporters!! Incredible!!
  15. What's the problem? I would much rather start the season with an understrength side, be bottom of the EL after a few months, bring in some 'big hitters', sneak into the play-offs and pip the season-long favourites to the title.!!! Roll on 2011.
  16. I think the 'alleged' black eye occurred at Poole in the Play-off final! If you look at the http://www.coventrymotorspeedway.com/ website photo with the team, he is turning his head so you cant see his face!!!!!
  17. Thanks for the replies. Certainly felt like 20,000, but didn't think you could get that many in there!! Those were the days. Imagine getting that attendance now. Anyone know how many was at last years play-off final at Brandon?
