  1. Found my programme last night and a look at the scores confirm what everyone (except me!!!) was stating! Copy below: You will notice the cost of the programme was 25p. Normal programme prices in 1979 was 15p. Admission prices: Pop enclosure Adults £1.70 child 85p. Main enclosure £2.20 child £1.10. No mention of concessions (SCB would have been pleased!)
  2. Yes it would. I think I still have a programme for the Hull meeting. I will try to dig it out tonight.
  3. I don't think it was Gem, but it was definately packed. That was the most people I have ever seen inside Brandon. I was watching Coventry v Cradley televised meeting last night from 1985 and I was surprised how many there were in the crowd.
  4. Lions v Tigers on 30 March sounds like a good meeting - I might come across for this meeting and start me gang!!
  5. But how does speedway survive at £10 if that means the promotions lose money.......and probably quite a lot of money. That would only work if you can cut your costs accordingly and I don't see how that can be done easily.
  6. Getting a bit off-topic now, but I like the photo with Molly watching the sheepdog trials on TV!!
  7. Ha-ha. See, I knew you were all nice over there really. And yes, I was definately born 30 years ago - try 56!! And I also know all about the CO!!
  8. ...............anyway, you miserable gits are not going to put me off. I demand to be let in!! Seriously though, I love speedway and will watch as much as I can fit in/afford and I am really looking forward to coming over to BP in 2013.
  9. Sounds good to me Gem. We never did meet up at Brandon so maybe we will at BP!! Do you know, I thought all speedway clubs needed as many supporters as they can get in these difficult times even if it might be just casual support. I must have got it wrong Jim!!
  10. Are these 'gangs' easily identified or can I start my own gang?
  11. That's what I intend to do hurricanes, thanks very much. Any tips where to stand?
  12. Well I have had a PM which answered my questions and was very helpful, so thanks to that person.
  13. I have been following this thread for the last few months and despite the negativity from a couple of contributors, I will be coming over to Beaumont Park this season to watch a few meetings. I like the look of the team and the promotion sounds forward thinking! I am intrigued though as to bad press regarding the track. What exactly are the problems and does it make the product poor? Bear in mind I watch most of my speedway at Brandon!! PS Genuine non-moaning replies please!
  14. What has Coventry done to deserve those two?!
  15. What happened to all the posts between 10.12am and 2.45pm?!!
  16. Yes indeed, I am sure he will do very well for the Lions. The team does look well balanced and should be up there at the and of the season. I will definitely be making my first visit to Beaumont Park in 2013 now!! It is a good track/stadium by all accounts!
  17. Really disappointed we won't be be riding against the Lions next season. Anyway looks like the promotion don't have a big problem with it: Leicester Lions' bid to join the Elite League has been put on hold for 12 months. British Speedway bosses decided at their annual general meeting that there would be no addition to the sport's top flight, and that it would remain at 10 clubs. Their primary consideration was that, in the current economic climate, it was in the best interest of all parties that the balance of both the Elite and Premier Leagues should be maintained. Although the Lions remain hugely ambitious, they were happy to agree and be part of the bigger picture. In addition, it may only delay their top-flight dream by 12 months as British Speedway has invited them to re-apply at the end of next season. Lions co-promoter Alan Jones said: "You have to remember that we are in a very difficult economic climate. "Everybody is struggling to make ends meet and speedway is no different. "In the Premier League, the nearest track to Leicester is Sheffield, some 75 miles away. Yet, in the Elite League, there are four clubs – Birmingham, Coventry, Peterborough and Wolverhampton – based a lot nearer. "Leicester fans wanting to watch Elite League speedway would go there. If we had gone up, then these other clubs may have lost this fringe support. "Given the times we are in, it was felt it was time to support one another. "We could, potentially, damage another club's business, so it was seen as being in the best interests of British speedway that we remained in the Premier League. "We can re-apply next year. We are a big-city club who would add value to the Elite League. We are only two years old but David (Hemsley, promoter) and myself still have a vision to be in the top flight." Now, the Lions are turning their attention to recruitment. "We have already started talking to riders," said Jones. "Some of them are part of last season's successful team, others are new faces. We want continuity though, and we are hoping some familiar faces will be returning. "Everything was put on hold until we knew which league we would be in, but we will, hopefully, announce our first signing in the next few days." Plans are in place for changes to the track in February, which the Lions hope will produce more exciting racing. There is a bonus for fans, too – season ticket and admission prices will remain the same for the third year running.
  18. They may want an inflated amount but if people/organisations are not prepared to pay over the odds then they wont get what they want. I do appreciate however, with a speedway facility, it is a completely different matter as you cant just walk away and lay down a track elswhere just like that. I do sympathise with your plight. Is the deadline of this weekend (the BSPA AGM) an immovable date?
  19. I am not questioning what was said at the meeting.........obviously. It just seemed a strange thing to say without any other reference to the fact that it is a catholic school. Sorry.
  20. What has the fact that it is a catholic school got to do with it? At the end of the day they own the land if they want a certain price or don't want to sell it that is their perrogative.
  21. Yes indeed, very likeable man. Does anyone know if he has any plans to do anymore Sky commentary in 2011?
