Anybody remember Graham Knowler, Barry Etherington, Simon Franks, Rob Dolman, Kevin Howland, Ray Griffiths, Mark Summerfield, Duncan Tolhurst and Tony Reynolds. Whatever happened to them?
Born in Beckenham and rode in 2 meetings for Peterborough in 1980. Son of Arthur Ashby who rode for Aldershot and Eastbourne and started at Iwade in 1977. Anyone remember him?
I take your point although I have to disagree on this one. He learnt his speedway at Eastbourne which is like swearing in my book(no disrespect just proper rivals) in the good old days.
The days of the chararacters are long gone in our sadly dying sport. Even the local derbies are now filled with foreigners. Canterbury v Eastbourne, Rye House v Mioldenhall, Newcastle v Middlesbrough and Canterbury v Crayford were some of the biggest on the National League calender. As were four matches in four days without posh transport.
