Greg Hancock World Champion

I agree enough's enough, no sweat. Incidentally, i have repeatedly praised his win. Please be assured i was joking about the grin, i stressed it was humour just having a little fun on that. I never said he was insincere at all. -

Jacques with respect you can decree 'that's it' as much as you wish, however, we are all free to discuss any aspect of 'Greg Hancock World Champion' that we desire to. Why the exasperated 'Oh for goodness sake'??? there is no big argument going on, we're just expressing differing views. It's what a forum is for so please try and restrain yourself from calling time out on a perfectly calm discussion. Once again i'm not sure why someone employs the 'rolleyes' emoticon. The points i mention are an aspect of his win that is topical. Anyway no biggie international crisis lol. -

Oh come on now ImpartialOne who's being shockingly, ridiculously pedantic now?. There's no point letting this degenerate into the typical forum thread of totally failing to address points made and in particular 'head in the sand pretend i haven't read that' when making a reply. So, rather than go round in circles restating things i'm happy to leave what i said and what yourself and others have said 'as is'. In your reply you amusingly fail to address what i put forward and responded to. So guess i'll take that as i'm 100% right then As ever in life it's what isn't said or addressed that is infinitely more telling than what is referred to. Not singling you out personally in pointing that out. It just seems that it can be incredibly hard at times on this forum to hold a genuine discussion and exchange of views. People either attack the poster or point blank fail to address responses. I am 100% ready to change even my most strongest opinion, view or judgement if someone counters with valid points. The whole idea of a forum is to discuss and express different opinions and viewpoints. Anyways, once again congrats in order for Greg Hancock a fine achievement indeed. *Even though i don't go along with this 'The Grin' thing, i mean OMG! Jack Nicholson in 'The Shining' when poking his head through the door he had just axed through had a far more affable smile/grin than Greg's lol. Thinking about it more 'Chucky' had a more engaging smile after doing his dastardly deeds. Well creeps me out does 'that' grin of Greg's *(Last paragraph written in the hope that we are allowed a little license of humour on here) -

First of all, when one refers to one's 'fellow countrymen' it is usually taken to mean the mass population. Check out thousands of quotes from leaders, politicians, sportsmen and historical figures throughout time and see the context in which it is said and deliberately used. It will refer to the vast majority of a country's inhabitants. In Greg's case it should have been said that 'he is loved by the few of his countrymen who know (of) him'. Your points that you say are 'pretty damn obvious', well hang on, i agree with them because they are the reasons why he is going to be the such an unknown champion in his own country. How is my whole post a bit out of context? It is right for the exact reasons that you agree with me on. For further explanation see my reply above to 'Arson Fire's' outlandish claims of Hancock's (household?) 'fame'. -

Goodness me, now who's making crazy posts? Are you serious? I suggest you visit the websites of local media outlets in California for the various swathe of newspaper, tv and sports portals and look for coverage of speedway meetings, good luck with that! California is by far the the most populous state in the U.S and the third largest land mass. Can you even begin to grasp how little speedway could ever make itself known outside of those pitiful few who are fans of the sport? Incidentally, great credit and praise to all those who do keep the sport alive in the U.S. very admirable indeed. At least over here nowadays if we get an English World Champion general sports fans couldn't help but hear of him via the Sky coverage and trailers alone. Where is that coverage and reporting in America??? Are you seriously thinking that Greg Hancock is plastered over the Sportscasts of CBS and Fox etc. or even mentioned? I really am dumbfounded that you genuinely think that 'Californians' collectively even know he exists. -

Lol lol what on earth is strange in any of the above? I honestly haven't a clue what's wrong with that post or it's contents. I've merely pointed out quite a startling fact. I don't think any World Speedway champion in history will be as unknown in their own country as Greg Hancock looks like being. I'm no odd bod! lol. It's a perfectly good and reasonable post. -

Got to admit i did raise an eyebrow when Sam quoted him in the studio as being loved by his fellow Americans. It is a pity that he is pretty much 99.9999999999999% UNKNOWN to his 'fellow Americans'. I think he's going to go down in history as one of the most unknown World Champions within their own country. I've just run Google News searches (and web) filtering for American sources and over two days after his triumph it returned only 1 result!, from a motorcycle site. That was a tiny four paragraph item. In fact a search of News sources globally came up with only 7 related searches (5 UK, 1 Australia and 1 USA). Google News search will normally give reports from under an hour. Even away from mainstream sites it updates fairly frequently. Where is Greg from in America? might be worth checking out his local online media outlets. I'll check again in a few days to see if any coverage has been given in his homeland. -
Sgp 2012 Wild Cards Now Clear?
manchesterpaul replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Agreed and if we want a real world example outside of Speedway we only need to look at the richest most popular sport on the planet which is Football. World Cup 2018 automatic inclusion in the Finals granted to Qatar currently ranked 97th, in the world! -

I don't see any Welsh Grand Prix on the schedule. I do see a British Grand Prix though. As i mentioned in my previous reply to you Italy, Croatia and Czech Republic don't have to maintain interest on their country's biggest TV sports platform throughout a whole summer. Therefore in the examples you quote the meeting Wild Card suffices for those countries. I myself am perfectly happy to watch the whole series without any British representation as it's the sport itself that comes first with me. If there is a local team or rider to cheer on that is a bonus. However, most people are not of the inclination to watch a series full of 'Johnny Foreigners'. Markedly more so when it comes to casual sports viewers which Sky obviously seek to add to the viewing figures. -

Utter(er) rubbish as Italy, Croatia and Czech Republic don't have to maintain interest on their country's biggest TV sports platform throughout a whole summer There are sports in the wings salivating over the prospect of receiving the airtime and, in effect, free advertising that speedway receives on Sky. If the SGP only had the one Wild Card appearance of an English rider per season it wouldn't be very long at all before the British Grand Prix is the ONLY GP to be shown. -
Newport Vs Scunthorpe/sheffield
manchesterpaul replied to Fozzie4388's topic in National League Speedway
Anyone have a clue or a link as to why this meeting is not now taking place?. The BSPA site has no news item saying it is off. They only have the word postponed next to it in the fixture list. The Speedway Star which i think goes to press on a Tuesday has it listed for 6pm today. I clicked on the Newport Scorpions club website link on the BSPA page for clubs and despite it having a different url it leads to the Newport Wasps page. Most importantly of all i can't find anything on that site giving a reason for it being called off. I was under the impression that Newport were one of the clubs very conscious of PR, but how amatuerish and ignorant is this?. Or are the club *(own website aside) blameless and have actually notified media outlets who simply declined to pass on the information? *Their club website actually says that "Please note that for any Fixtures that do happen to change, an announcement will be made on the news page." Well it's now 4:30pm Sunday i see no anouncement. -

For one reason and one very good reason only......as with pretty much every sport on the planet for decades and decades provision is made for a hosting nation competitor or team to be a participant. Even the mightiest richest sport in the world Football has to grant the host nation a guaranteed place. It's continental team championships will often have sparsely populated terrraces when the host nation is not involved in a match during a tournament. -

Am i doing a Black Sabbath? (as in 'Am I Going Insane'?) With a clear head tomorrow i'd probably had comprehended that instantly. Many thanks for the explanation, i actually just popped back before heading off to the land of nod to see if anyone had replied. Otherwise i'm sure i would have had a restless night trying to figure out the 'it's three down' comment lol. Hang on i'm not touchy over any spreadsheets i put out but eeeeek!.....did you say one of them was a joke! Hang on i best rub my eyes and check. Ok you didn't i rest easy. I was actually though that aware ImpartialOne used an emoticon. -

'What On Earth' Part 1....have spreadsheets got to do with the topic?. My SGP spreadsheet is for each meeting and the series standings overall. I'm just commenting on the Wild Cards for 2012. I've not slept for 74 hours but what am i not seeing right now regarding the 4 Wild Cards being a correct statement? 16 riders in a Grand Prix. Top 8 in 2011 qualify for 2012 series. Top 3 in SGP Challenge qualify for 2012 series. 4 nominated Wild Cards qualify for the 2012 series. 1 meeting Wild Card per meeting rides. 8 + 3 + 4 + 1 = 16.......surely? Oh My God what am i overlooking in my sleepy haze? 'What On Earth' Part 2....is the reason i didn't see a thread titled GP Line-ups 2012?. lol. Your initial sentence isn't clear either, what does "It's just three down from this one" mean? What is 'this one'? Admittedly i'm sleepy but why, if you are lol, are you saying there will not be 4 Wild Cards next year? Maybe it's best if i pop back tomorrow after some sleep? Unless you can clarify. -

manchesterpaul replied to manchesterpaul's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Oooops so sorry, i meant once the other wild cards - Lindgren and Pedersen - had been picked. Lindback of course already qualified via SGP Challenge. -
I've gone back several pages in the Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup forum and can't see a thread already established for this. I'm guessing that by rights taking into account form, potential and commercial interests the 4 Wild Cards for 2012 are pretty much set? 1. Darcy Ward - has to be a no-brainer? 2. Nicki Pedersen - has to be a no-brainer......surely? 3. Freddie Lindgren - the 9th place rider at present and a world class rider as league averages show. 4. Chris Harris - highest placed non-qualified rider in series at present* and there really needs to be an English (British hee hee!) representative. Edited Update *Highest placed once Lindgren and Pedersen have been picked. Lindback of course already qualified via the SGP Challenge meeting.

Lol lol. Got to admit i'm suing him already after the heat when Hancock made a good start, serious heart attack triggered. I thought it was hilarious how he stopped Jan with his startling SHOUTING as he was about to say something. I'm sure he fell clean of his chair. Got to admit it was a very embarrassing piece of 'commentating' he simply carried on SHOUTING for ages. -

If Greg doesn't score again Hampel can get a maximum of 15 this meeting and 24 in the last GP = 39. Hancock either not scoring or getting injured. So reckon Pearson will say any moment now that Hampel is breathing down Hancock's neck! I mean he did say Perdersen is putting pressure on Holder for 8th place when with one and a bit meetings to go the gap between 8th and 9th is 13 points. I'm also a little puzzled when the commetator said it's a good crowd, i was about to make my first post earlier on to say that i was very disappointed with the large gaps in the stadium. Maybe my poor memory from previous seasons? -
