Blimey when did Clive Featherby pass away- I thought he was still with us.
-
I will look forward to this.
-
How old was Pete when he passed?
-
Another piece of info I was not aware of. Leo McAuliffe (RIP) a World Finalist, 1963 maybe-I think he was from Wales right?
-
Firstly to Steve Roberts, I recall your post Steve, that was what gave me the idea, but I forgot who posted it, it was under another thread heading I think-anyway apologies from me for not mentioning it. Secondly Tracy Bird, thanks for bringing me up to date re Bob Hughes, though naturally sorry to learn he passed. BTW is Tim Bungay still with us-I thought he was gone, signed for Newport in 1967 but almost immediately had a bad injury. Hope he is with us-anyone know anything about Tim these days. Also enjoyed reading the responses , brought back some memorable names to me, thanks everybody.

I reckon some of us posters are posting less-maybe old age (say it ain't so). Here's one-we all recall our first meeting, how many of those riders are still with us? Here's mine- Newport 13.6.1964 versus Long Eaton. Newport riders:- Alby Golden (RIP), Jon Erskine, Dick Bradley, Geoff Penniket, Peter Vandenberg (RIP), Vic White, Ray Harris (RIP). Thus 4 Wasp riders are still with us- the grand-daddy is Dick Bradley at 96 and the second oldest World finalist still with us -a fine gent!! Re the visitors- Ken Adams (RIP), John Mills (RIP), Ray Wilson, Norman Storer, Ron Sharp (RIP), Howard Cole -then known as Kid Bodie, K.Vale (RIP)-thus 3 Archers are still with us. Second Halfers not already mentioned:- Alan Jones, Fred Powell, Bob Hughes Goog Allan. I know Bob Hughes is still with us-not sure about the other three-anyone know (we should never forget the second halfers- I always enjoyed the second halves. Would be interested to see any other comments in this thread-hope you kept your programs.!!!

Good one chunky-can't top that!!!!
-
Who did Livingston ride for? Glasgow I presume (but not White City)!
-
Yup watched the Russian video-Ove Fundin had a segment of his memories of Gab in English, and mentioned a thing I remember- Gab Kadirov always looked a happy guy -great memories.
-
Yup, Gab the Beatle-saw him with the Russian Touring team in 1965 at Newport. I would rate him fourth of that team, after Plechanov, Samorodov and Kurilenko
-
Come on Tony -give us the answers!!
-
I therefore think you are referring to Middlesbrough-I fondly recall seeing "The Bears" at Newport with Boocock, Younghusband et al.
-
Good for Stan-thanks very much Roger.
-
Couple of pictures of Stan in "Saving Speedway-does anyone know if Stan is still with us-if so I reckon he'd be 94. Great guy!! Do you know andout?
-
Barry Briggs must be moving up to second reserve soon-he was born in December 1934.
-
It's called "Saving Speedway" by well known author and speedway historian Philip Dalling. It covers the SAL and Prov. League-say 1954-64. Even though I am interested in this part of history particularly the Prov. league, I learned quite a bit , also the illustrations are excellent -many speedway photographs new to me. Comments by many promoters/ riders of that period are most interesting. I got it for xmas, and have hardly put it down. Highly recommnded to all.

Sorry to hear this- R.I.P Rune

So where was the track? Here's one for you guys. This track had a Football team supporters club at the track -you could join at the door for about 5 bob for the season and then you could go in at half time and get Whitbread Trophy (RIP- I think its no longer for sale anywhere) beer at a discount then go and watch the second half rides. BTW when did they get rid of second halves FFS???????
-
Is this a quiz -can somebody give me the answers? I can figure a couple out- pork sarnies has to be CH, and the third tier WF reserve is Geoff Mardon who was with Aldershot-then Wimbledon later on.. Where is Art's Fish and Chips etc!!!! Please help as this is driving me crazy!!
-
Thanks Tigerowl-let's hope we don't have to change the list for a long time.
-
Any update to this list since Tigerowl's post of April 7 2020?? Great that Arthur Payne and Dick Bradley are still with us at 96- Dick's 96th birthday was last month I see.
-
Yeh I saw the one with John Davis, will look up Hans Nielsen- anybody else from the sixties to early seventies in this series-e.g. Martin Ashby, Trevor Hedge etc.
-
Just got on to a Polish language site and translated it-it seems Zenon had been ill for some time with kidney disease and it had recently deteriorated.
-
I don't know what caused ZP's death or where it occurred-heard of it via Reg who in turn got it from Len Silver. ^7 years old though is awful young these days-can anybody add anything to this info. I share your thoughts Steve.
