  1. Genuinely, you would ask that to a person? Wow..... There are some utterly mental comments made on this forum, but that is a stand out
  2. You would think so, maybe not end of season average wise, a Barker or Doyle will, come the end of the year, be your top men, but career trajectory wise, Mellgren and Morris are your long term talents in the PL (maybe Fricke, early days to be fair) Mellgren is the baws...
  3. It is just weird that Mellgren isn't part of an EL squad, excellent rider. Generates EL speed even at PL level
  4. Albin looked pretty decent the limited number of times I saw him last season. That being said, it is still early days and more often than not your more “bat sh*t crazy” riders will start the season in decent form while others work themselves in. It will be interesting to see how he manages across the season, but he does look a talent.
  5. It was pretty rushed, sounded like R.E.M “It’s the end of the World” on karaoke before every race Other than that, it was really good.
  6. http://www.srbf.co.uk/news/130305.html Of all the riders in the Ben Fund Bonanza this Saturday, the eyes of Berwick fans will probably alight as much on their Aussie star Kozza Smith as anyone else because he is a such a key man for the Bandits this year. He missed the whole of the British season in 2012 but is typically upbeat about prospects for the coming season. He said "I'm just in the process of getting the bikes sorted out to make sure I am ready. "I did a bit of racing back home though I had another operation to get the rod out of my leg. The leg feels a lot better but I just need the laps on the bike now. "I've had a fair bit from the Ben Fund after some of the injuries I've had in the past so it's only right that I ride in their meeting." Glasgow will be represented by James Grieves as long as James gets the all-clear from a hospital visit this week. His problem is kidney stones and it could be that he will need to have an operation to clear them up before the start of the Tigers' season. Definitely in the event are Morten Risager (Ipswich), Kyle Howarth (Workington) and Steve Worrall (Newcastle) The Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund organisers wish to thank the Stadium Landlords, Berwick Rangers FC Supporters Club for their very generous concessionary rental charges for the meeting. Meanwhile, SRBF Secretary Paul Ackroyd has issued a "Travel Advice" for those fans attending the Ben Fund Bonanza on Saturday. Paul commented "Berwick Rangers have kindly agreed to bring forward there Irn-Bru Scottish Third Division fixture with Montrose - with kick-off scheduled for 2.00pm. We are hoping for the Stadium and Car Park to be cleared by around 4.00pm. We would urge fans who are not attending the football match to try to arrive at the stadium no earlier than 4.30pm to avoid traffic congestion in the area. Gates for the Ben Fund Bonanza are scheduled to open at 5.00pm, with the meeting due to start at 6.30pm".
  7. Biased, I know. But Somerset v Berwick would be one of the better fixtures to put on….. Excellent track, league favourites against a side packed with guys who ride the OTA well and would give them a test..
  8. The apparently being they key part. Jog on pal. It's a meeting about the Ben Fund FFS. Not about a shower of ** on here getting some petty points scoring
  9. Other than your post being a bit trolly, and wanky (as per) The idea that meetings are awarded on the basis of pies (try one if you haven't, they are rather good. as you will pick up like the rest of Arsons Fires post that bit is crap as well) actually makes you sound simple rather than being some smart arse comment against the promotion. Berwick, like, ow only 100% of tracks in the UK struggle to "get them in" but unlike 90% are proactive in doing something about it. The "fim neeting" was as much a farce as the 4s held at Workington (won by Powell and Stoney in the rain), the PLRC held at Sheffield when Compton took Stead off (on a terrible weather affected track), the WC held at Sheffield when Loram cartwheeled down the back straight (on a rain soaked track), it the Brittish Final when Carter qualified (on a wet track) the pairs at Glasgow won by Parker and I can't even remember who, on, yep, you guessed it, a weather affected track. A sport which is dependant on weather is impacted when it rains, who knew. So sure, go ahead and try and take the p*sh but watch you don't make yourself look an utter fanny in the process (as per) Next.....
  10. Where in the North is Plymouth (Barker), Eastbourne (Woodward) Suffolk (King) and Norfolk (Korneilsen)?
  11. Scud or Pingel I would imagine. Christ what a clueless twit he is.
  12. Without fail, like a puppet on a string. He will reply to this.
  13. Well if anyone knows about making embarrassing comments it would be you.
  14. I would hope not, while not overly popular on here, he still has something to offer IMO. His programme articles, more often than not offer thought provoking articles and I always enjoy the rapport he has with the riders, Dick in a roving reporter role in the pits chipping in when track work was going on would work well IMO. Dick tends to ask riders questions that are a bit out the box rather than the usual sort of brain dead stuff you get on Sky. I don’t think there is much an issue having people with the enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport Dick has involved somewhere…
  15. Almost as ludicrous as the idea that riders would choose not to ride in a meeting which is ultimately for their benefit? You can add as many little platitudes on the end of your point as you wish, but it still very, very, very ,very , very, very , very much not as daft a suggestion as you are making it out to be. Ow look I said very more than you there for my point holds more value, naw, it doesn’t.
  16. No, I said I wouldn’t go as far as to rubbish the point in the way that you have. It doesn’t bother me personally much if the “GP riders” are at Berwick or not, there is nothing for me to “get over”. I am happy with the riders attracted so far, the riders who are coming are committed guys who don’t know how to turn up a meeting and go through the motions IMO (smart booking). My main concern, and the point of this meeting, is to offer “help” to injured riders, one of the first places where “help” can be offered is that the Ben Fund meeting is filled with as many high class riders as possible, and thus, attracting the biggest crowd possible. Because the GP riders, do have a big draw, they do have “great power” and with great power, does come great responsibility. If a rider has a genuine reason for not attending, I don’t have any issue with that. If they don’t however…..makes me wonder how much they want to “help” themselves. It would baffle me if I thought a rider was choosing not to race in this meeting, given how much it benefits the riders.
  17. And the date of the Ben Fund meeting was known last October, I think that you are somewhat missing the point though. I actually wouldn’t go as far as to say it is rubbish personally, charity begins at home and all that.
  18. You are of course working from the assumption that Leicester won’t bring in a star guest so as to even the meeting up a bit aren’t you? When the reality is they more than likely will, and then split the riders between the number 6&7. Ow and don’t worry, I will get it in before you do. “well what’s the point in bringing in a guest, they ruin speedway, give the rides to the kid etc”. The counter point. Benefits the young riders being in a meeting which involves a Nicholls, seeing their professionalism, a bit of envy when they are surrounded in the pits etc, a bit of motivation to get to that level. Just enjoy it for what it is.
  19. The first meeting of the season at Berwick is actually one of the bigger meetings held in Britain, it’s the Ben Fund Bonanza… It’s understandable that clubs would look to attract the biggest meeting possible for their opening night, the opening night can quite often set the tone for the season, it’s a lot of clubs chance to start with a bang, get as many fans new, and old in as possible. Even as a PL fan I know that even a Nicholls or Kasparzak is a better, bigger draw than a local challenge against a PL side.Get people, in and do something to get them back, its pretty sensible. As well as that, an EL side, different faces and names is a break from the norm, the repetition of say a Berwick v Newcastle, or Edinburgh v Glasgow, or a local meeting you will see 4 or 5 times a season, which is then down to 3 or 4 instead. Clubs actually put a bit of effort in to put on a show for fans, but naw, as per with quite a growing minority on the BSF, its always with the “what way can we spin this to look sh*t” line.
  20. The end result shows and the speculative post above shows why people struggle to take posters seriously.... Excellent work by the promotion to attract such a sponsor to Britsh Speedway, and not just Berwick.
  21. http://www.berwickba...php/latest-news Excellent additions, Hall is just superb to watch, most entertaining rider on show at the PLRC. Open meetings always need riders that are a bit daft/entertain. Barker, Harris, Hall and Ashworth fit that.
  22. The BSPA site today probably confirms what a few have thought for a while (and not just on this subject) its about time you shut yer pus.
  23. Having a good/winning season and finding the right place for an assessed rider is pretty hard, unless you have a Tabakaish reserve who will swap in and out the top 5 with your 5.00 man you are going to have a difficult season IMO. 5.00 average doesn’t sound much but for a first season kid in the PL that’s a big ask to hit it, more so when you have 2 at once and a side structured that will more than likely see one spending a large chunk of the season in the 1-5 5.00 average, that’s a figure that guys like Kurtz, Campton, Heeps and Dyer didn’t or have not hit yet, and they are good, talented riders who in theory should have decent careers. Unless you are making wholesale changes, the introduction of a couple of assessed riders in their first season, more often than not will mean you are in for an average season (I am not saying that is a bad thing) nor is this just aimed at Glasgow, just a general comment. All that being said, being near the top of the league, while great, isnt the be all and end all. Glasgow should, have a couple of long term assets, with their heat leader trio and Bager be solid at home, and with Grieves and Wright (if he finds his form) have a couple of the more entertaining riders in the PL this season, for a first season effort, and new promotion that’s not a bad start at all.
  24. I take it Wells must be a fan of The Smiths, seems to be of the assumption that England is his and it owes him a living. If he likes the place, the fans, and the club so much, maybe he should think about their tomorrow as well as his? He is already having his “loss of earnings” subsidized by….another team place in England. I have some degree of sympathy with riders when they point out the financial strains on them, I am struggling in this instance.
