I wouldn’t go to Cardiff if there was a GP at Coventry. -
Cardiff Wild Card 2011
wjm replied to ladyluck's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
The point I am making is what is "merit" surely if a Brittish rider is doing well in there league and has a good finish in there national championship then that is "merit". -

Do you think they should give the Polish GP Wild Card spot to Charles Wright if he goes well in the PL next season? -
Cardiff Wild Card 2011

Well why should they get picked? Other than emmm they are Poles, kinda young and not Brits. It is called a "wild card". -
Cardiff Wild Card 2011
wjm replied to ladyluck's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Why should they get picked? It is a "wild card" as far as I am aware there is no set down criteria that a rider has to meet. You could just as easily stick in Tamas Sike as you could put in someone like Joonas Kylamakorpi. -
Kings Lynn have went about things the right way lately IMO, you can see from this thread that they are going to have a few options. They have a couple of riders on decent averages when it comes to team building.

Harris is just getting to age when things come together for the majority of riders at Grand Prix level. Plenty riders in the past have struggled in there early Grand Prix career before moving up a level. He is still 10 years younger than the World Champion. The majority of GP riders don’t peak at GP level until later in there career.

I think it makes perfect sense personally. I think the GP is a MASSIVE step for any rider I think it is a series that riders need to learn, it isn’t just about on track performance it is about finding a balance both on and off the track. Learning how to fit in a racing calendar and schedule, the demands of extra sponsors, managing where to be and when it is all pressure and tricks of the trade that the riders need to learn. Many riders have struggled in there early GP career, it didn’t happen right away for the likes of Adams and others. I can remember plenty riders struggling when they first stepped up to the GP. Woffinden is a bright young emerging talent, IMO for the GP to improve it does help if they offer a 2 year wild card to a young emerging talent and blood them into the Grand Prix series. To many capable riders have been in and out of the GP each season IF they were given a run at it I don’t doubt they would improve with the series. For what its worth for a first season GP rider, his age and what has went on his life this year I think he has done well enough to deserve a chance next season.
-
Woffinden was (understandably IMO) given what was going to be a 2 year Wild Card, with the idea that he would learn in his first season and improve the next year - He has done ok in bits this season but this season as a whole seems to have been a struggle for him, which given what has went on in his life I think we can all see why it would have been He is still very talented. I think if he can go away for a winter in Oz and recharge and have a bit of balance back into his life after what has went on the last year he could easily come back next season and perform in the GP.
-
Given the problems he had earlier in his life it is pretty incredible that he has had the career he did. When he raced for Berwick he was such a 100% racer you always knew he was trying the best he could, so much so that he was guilty of a daft fall now and then. Tom is a genuine nice guy. I wish him all the best in the future.

Don't know about that fella ...not saying they would be up there with the big guys but right place right time I would see us giving the Finns, Hungary or Croatia or teams like that a go.
-
But as I said in my post he is the top averaged Brit that hasn't had numerous GP chances ?. Is he the highest placed Brit in his National Championship with out GP experience.
-
Yes , he is.
-
Well if you want to put it a logical way. Highest averaged Brit in his home country and highest placed rider in his National Championship with out GP experience. If you want to try and belittle one of them getting an opportunity it would be Woffinden.
-
Maybe you cant.
-
In the same way Lindgren and Andersen are picked because of there nationality and other riders before , you could make a logical argument for or against any rider getting or not getting a Wild Card. I have not missed points if you would read what I am posting I have already spoken of the " closed shop " and " faces that fit " and the " why bother with qualifiers " posts you have made.
-
But they got one...... Plenty of riders have had them and either made the best of there chance or haven't.
-
Either way they got there because of a Wild Card.
-
But they also picked people like Emil , Nicki and AJ as wild cards and it didn't do them any harm did it. Never know unless you try with some riders.
-
Andersen is a rider that has now on more than one occasion failed to meet the requirements in place for him.
