Quite unfortunate about Nelson. I thought he looked a pretty decent rider that had a real chance of making it over here.

I wouldn’t even know if that is his motive, think it just depends which side of the bed he wakes up which rider decides to turn up, strange guy. Could still come good for Rye, more than likely will – would be interesting to see how Silver dealt with things if he does start with the antics he had at Berwick. Silver has enough savvy, and has dealt with enough riders that I couldn’t see him suffering his BS very long.

I wouldn’t imagine he will be that fussed to be honest, or Plymouth fans given the form he shows around the rest of the country…

I saw him in a PLRC with Stoke a couple of years back and he was pretty sensational, as I say Barker having poor meetings in the PL isn’t a regular occurrence, Plymouth will cause damage at most tracks with Fisher and Barker, by far and away the strongest top two assembled by a PL side in recent years IMO, only Parker and Bird come close, it didn’t take much from the rest of the Glasgow team that season to carry them to a decent year, Boxall and one of Franchetti/Glanz could easily do the Niemenin/Kseizak job done that season. I don’t mind Gino as a rider I still think he has a bit more to give, but he needs looking after – don’t know if Bowden is the man to do that, but you never know because Peter Waite seemed to get on ok with Gino and Bowden and Waite seem pretty similar.

I have seen Barker perform superbly around Owlerton, you are referencing the exception rather than the norm when you speak of Barker having an off night at PL level. More so at Sheffield when last year he had to face Parker, Auty and Ashowrth.

Barker and Fisher will give Plymouth a minimum of about 7 drawn heats and 2 heat advantages a meeting, that’s a hell of a start from only 2 riders.

If Glanz is half the rider he was when he was riding for Reading a few years ago…well he will be thin for a start, but he could be pretty good, looked a decent talent then.

Because is an open forum and there are separate team threads to discuss that teams issues, Berwick have bugger all to do with a Plymouth thread, but like every other fan on this Berwick fans discuss other teams on that teams thread.

Fisher, Barker and Lanham would be the strongest top 3 I have seen a side assemble in the PL (if that was to be there side). Add in Glanz and Gino who both have a point or so to add on their averages IMO. Plymouth will cause teams problems. Its all well and good saying you need riders who will up their average but when you have 2 genuine 10 point mean, you don’t need much improvement from the rest.

He seems to have had the Waite gift of seeing what happens at other tracks all winter and then having a team fall into his lap. Plymouth are going to be a team to watch this season, on and off track. There season might be like Barker and Fishers early career, great, entertaining, watching through your fingers, you just don’t know how its going to end up, but you just cant take your eyes of it.

I haven’t really been keeping up with this thread, Lanham would need to come into the team in place of Boxall is that correct? So if they don’t get Lanham , that leaves them with Boxall who knows he is going to be replaced?

Risager is to bi-polar to be ever be a 8.00 + man IMO, he goes from the sublime to the ridiculous. He will have to many races in a season when he just tails of a bad last to a reserve.

Its good news for other teams in the PL, Plymouth were a disgrace towards the end of last season with some of the sides and performances they were putting in at away tracks, all well and good damaging your own business but bang out of order to damage others. Fisher and Barker should at least add interest wherever they go.

Very much so, Makinen might come on, decent talent, Bjerre is awesome , Kauko does away, MK will go missing for a month when he stops being the rider he should be, the rest us very meh.

it isn’t really like that though is it. Rye have a decent enough balance to their side IMO, they will be hard to beat at home and competitive away. People saying they won’t be competitive on the road? They have 4 out of 7 riders that will cause Berwick, Edinburgh and Glasgow problems around their own tracks, if you have half a side capable of mixing it around they three tracks you will mix it around most places, decent blend of big tracks, small track, slick tracks and grippy track riders. They have signed a mix of exciting riders and riders that will win meetings at home, Nelson, Frampton, Bunyan and Garrity will give you 4 laps more often not, and so will Hawkins who despite having suffered some horrific injuries during his career is still an entertainer. Silver gets stick every season for his team building but still proves the punters to be wrong more often than not. I don’t think their team looks like the “cheap and easy” option. I wouldn’t be shocked if other clubs had been trying to turn Nelsons head elsewhere, and Bunyan and Garrity would have been two of the in demand riders over the winter, so it does look like Len has stuck his hand in his pocket. So maybe he did take a decision to keep Hawkins to subsidize the payment being made to keep Bunyan, Garrity and Nelson – if the three of them add 4 points to their combined averages come the end of the season, he will have justified his decision, and will have Rye in a decent league position. It is easy to say on a forum that a side should be stronger, isn’t as easy on the bank balance. Rye fans seem to have complained about lack of entertainment over the last few years, looking at their side on paper Silver has listened to the fans.

You could easily say the same about the EL.

As good a meeting as it was to watch – I don’t even know if that’s the answer personally. Some people have a problem with the WC that are handed out. I don’t know if the current qualification/ GP Challenge offers much to the GP either. Would be interesting to know the points/performance ratio of those that have qualified in comparison to the WC that have been handed out. Riders that qualify, just like riders that are given a WC have more often than not got their because of the misfortune to another rider. The qualifier has given the opportunity to some riders who have been completely out of their depth when in the GP – some of the riders have qualified because of things like home track advance, another rider being injured, having machine problems etc, which is just as advantageous as a rider given a WC spot. I would scrap GP Qualifiers and base it on averages across Europe during the season. Which could help the leagues when it comes to riders turning up or riders turning up and putting in a half arsed performance like was seen from Bjerre in the PO S.F

I could understand why some riders would chose to prioritise the GP over qualification. Should be finding a better way to fit the Qualification in for those riders that are currently in the GP, IMO.
