Cradley V Birmingham Ch 7/10/14
Mike.Butler replied to Ommer Mon's topic in National League Speedway
the shock made porky come over all religous-like..lost the plot a bit.. -
the midlands has always been a hotbed with top-flight local derbies aplenty but with coventry now seemingly on borrowed time it might be that Leicester v Wolves will be the only 'derby' left. Well they can't be any further apart than the south coast 'derby' between poole and eastbourne. There's no east anglian derby any longer; Belle Vue have been marooned for a while and Swindon lost Oxford and Reading, so actually there may not be any if things continue like they are...

The Decline Of British Speedway
Mike.Butler replied to customhouseregular's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
the spectacle has diminished because of technology. 1. Cost:Only a select few can afford top machinery. 2. Bikes are too fast for the tracks they are on. -
Sittingbourne FC no longer play at that ground.

Eastbourne should be another Mildenhall and pull in similar crowds.

wondered why there was a police car outside the entrance when we left? they didn't seem bothered about all the cars parked on double yellows...maybe they were there to keep the protestors and fans apart..?

Comets Scrap Two Fixtures.
Mike.Butler replied to Lord Lucan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
the play-offs should be scrapped. full-stop. Artificially ending the season early when at least 6 weeks remains as contingency for league matches, feels like we are entering an indian summer but some clubs are shutting up shop already. -

Danny Phillips in the nil-nil at Kent this season....Leading the race but decided to ride straight into the pits believing the race had been stopped when it hadn't. -
I have long thought that R/R in NL should only be available to away teams. Home teams required to promote from within.

Belle Vue National Stadium

where's Everton, Aston, Chester-le-Street, Belle Vue even... ? It's the sports team that puts the place on the map in the first place. King's Lynn and Poole must help project the town's profile in the conciousness of the regional public, more so than Birmingham which doesn't convey where the club is based in that metropolis. Unlike Cradley, Wimbledon, Belle Vue which are far more identifiable with a particular part of an urban area. Could this be why London, Birmingham and Liverpool haven't survived? -
And he aks us to 'show our appreciation' non-stop throughout the meeting...mix it up a bit fella!

Speedway Champions League ?
Mike.Butler replied to PolskiZuzel's topic in International World of Speedway
It's a challenge meeting with some select sides included. No more than that. Winners may call themselves European Champions but will have arguably less credibility than the elite league champs who finish 4th in the 'regular' season.
