I suppose mildenhall's 'punishment' is the loss of an attractive fixture with revenue to club and riders...+ any chance of the play-off s of course

Swindon V Lakeside 16/06.
Mike.Butler replied to Sidney the robin's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
hope its not sunday revisited and I end up turning around cos Rosco has objected to Cook! hoping for a jolly good time tonight.! -
Unfortunately the sport is in such a desperate state that tracks are kept open at whatever cost in the belief that however badly run its better than if they close. The governance of British speedway is fundamentally broken as supporters on this forum have been advising for many, many years. A repeat of the 1965 review is required but who on earth will pay for it?

actually I was referring to the tv meeting against Poole on a Monday night.

Yep, 24 hrs later and looking forward to my next meeting...Didn't see you at Birmingham last meeting?..mind I've only got there once thus far...Trust you're working! I am still! A team manager informed the ref of the reason his team will be riding the match 'under protest' which was often at the make-up of the opposition side. (this public display was as much to appease any disgruntled home fans on the day..) He pays the protest fee and gets a hearing...not sure this is still an option though? At Duplicate Bridge we call similar 'Reserving one's rights'

I drove 2.5 hours to Mildenhall arriving at 2.30 and really looking forward to an attractive meeting..to be met by dozens of cars turning around, and so drove 2.5 hrs home again... I was trying to visit every track this year but what with the weather and now this totally avoidable cock-up my enthusiasm is waning. This on top of attending the Coventry fiasco last season. I am surprised as many like me still attend anything that's not local. Even if a meeting goes ahead I don't even expect to see 15 heats these days let alone the 20+ of old days... With some exceptions supporters seem to be the last people riders and officials ands refs think of.. Why on earth I spend up to £20 plus fuel to possibly see as few as 10 heats i can't quite fathom....the few of us left must be mad. I go to non-league football a lot (and travel long distances), with sometimes paltry crowds watching at step 7, but at least I know the game will go ahead and not be called off for some ridiculous reason. (like the visiting team have a player the home manager doesn't like much!) What happened to riding under protest and paying the appropriate fine? Doesn't seem to happen these days.. Speedway as a whole seems to have a self-destruct mechanism, and i'm afraid it might be better in the long run those found not to be acting with the best interests of the sport in mind to be thrown out of the sport. If tracks close so be it. In the long run it might stop us lurching from one shocking cock-up to another (it is meant to be a professional sport after all) This type of incident affects every Promoters business to some extent, so why on earth others tolerate this year after year beats me! I will continue to go to tracks up and down the country as I love the sport so this isn't a threat in any way...it just breaks my heart that other fans are understandably stopping going because of the shocking way the sport is being run in this country. I think in this case a disrepute charge would be appropriate. One person's actions have cost me and others a significant amount of wasted time and money

British Final
Mike.Butler replied to phillipsr's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
I was on first turn at front. I did get wet but it never rained hard so was bearable. I got filled in a few times but I chose to stand there for the excellent view. The dirt gradually moved out but its such a wide bend it was ok. Many more stood alongside me and all seemed to enjoy it. I will try another part of the stadium on my next visit. One gripe was that getting there early (as we were instructed to do) meant that the catering in that area wasn't up and running so a much needed cup of tea had to wait 45 mins whilst their urn heated up. As for traffic, coming from Liverpool by taking the inner ring road north rather than the signed diversion off Mancunian Way my journey was to ad from fine. -
Ticket Sales At Belle Vue

I phoned for my british final ticket and there was no charge. -
Bradley Andrews gated competitively all night but was passed in heat 2 by Whitmore (on home debut), in heat 3 by Kinsley, in heat 6 by Campos and in heat 9 by Kinsley before then leading Bailey & Campos in heat 10 for a lap, and still in front of Campos until last lap when again he was passed. Whitmore also passed Basford twice. Purchase gave up after 1st lap of heat 4, was awarded 3rd in heat 8 whilst last, and held off a quicker Whitmore in his other two. I suggest Pottinger thought that Andrews was more likely to come 1st or 2nd even though Purchase had a better h2h with Whitmore ultimately...

wolves had 6 2nd half heats last night, unfortunately the announcer failed to give the riders for heat 1..anyone get the line-up?

Birmingham V Eastbourne 01/06
Mike.Butler replied to Brummie Kev's topic in National League Speedway
Only the 2nd time I have seen a rider score 0 points from 7 rides...and the Brummie fans were worried before the meeting that Powell would make the difference...not sure what happened to the lad... -
Scunthorpe Vs Peterborough 30/5/16 Pl
Mike.Butler replied to Panthers89's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
perhaps there could be a designated marked route across the centre green of each track a couple of feet wide in a direct straight line from pits to tapes with a sign at the pits end saying 'motor bikes - for use when less than 30 seconds on the clock is left only', and 'No entry' at the other end.. A red line painted down each side to prevent anyone stopping for those last minute adjustments, and a marked pedestrian crossing could be provided with flashing beacons. Rob G could be given a lollipop board to be used during busy periods. This should satisfy H&S I'd have thought.. Tracks with pits on same side as starting gate would be exempt of course as that would be silly.. (or riders could just make sure they are ready to race in time) -
I was afraid tis was going to be off after 6 heats had been run in 1 hr 40 mins....but the remaining 9 were completed by 9.50 and I have to say the track looked pretty good after the work done with the fastest time being recorded in the final heat which is rare though mot unique. The racing was full of incident and excitement.

Riders are not permitted to ride across the centre green. Perhaps the team manager should have made his riders aware. The rule has been in all season. -

Ipswich Vs Rye House Thurs 12th May Koc 1st Leg

Well I quite enjoyed this meeting. Bit of atmosphere on back straight. Some close racing and I thought track looked well prepared. Perhaps I need a new pair of glasses or my expectations are lowering. -

they've stopped publishing Swedish and polish attendances in the speedway star over last couple of years...Ukmartin might me able to tell us about Poland first hand? -
Redcar V Peterborough Pl Thursday 21st April
Mike.Butler replied to bigcatdiary's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Redcar carrying an assessed 7 pt rider who is in reality a 3.00 reserve is hard but if the budget they've got only allows them to have the side they have then maybe the NL is the place to be. Crowd looked up on my last visit swelled by a good few from Peterborough. Think club were pleased with the 50/50 total. -
I was at Munich in 1989. It was one of the worst meetings I've ever been to.. mainly due to the track - but you're right, Troy Butler qualified from the IC final..the final ine-up was indeed very average... coach journey back was awful too as we left after visiting a beer cellar and several people were ill all the way back to the ferry.. Yuk...every time the coach rdriver braked...well I won't go into details..

if a decent crowd is in the atmosphere is lifted and the racing seems better..even if it isn't. NB I never watch Elte League on TV as I don't enjoy it. I am still attending as many live meetings as I've ever done though. (but possibly out of habit...) I do think the racing deteriorated significantly with lay-downs... I find the statistical side of my record keeping will maintain my interest in attending live meets until I can no longer do so..
