British Speedway As A Brand....
Mike.Butler replied to CookieIpswich's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
speedway doesn't deserve the fans it's got...promoters, riders, tv and even refs sometimes often have paying spectators at the bottom of their list of priorities...quite how it attracts any new fans at all surprises me -
Stoke Potters V Kent Kings - Nl - 18/9/16

Buxom spotters -
I was there in 2002 and the play-offs were a novelty at the time and I felt as though a real injustice had taken place when Wolves won...but do you remember the size of the crowd?! And it was a terrific occasion... they're here to stay...The EL is worse with GP riders coming in at the last minute..

will they get all their meetings raced this season relying on the October weather once again? -
Changing A Team For The Play Offs
Mike.Butler replied to Mark's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I thought there was a cut off date to stop this..or is it allowed because he is a Poole asset already? Does make a total mockery of the 6 month qualifying tournament. I sincerely hope that next season any rider in a play-off match MUST have ridden a certain number of regular league meeting to be eligible. The rule book is a complete joke -
Tony will probably confirm but I believe a late 70's double header at White City might have been very close to midnight

Kent? Reading? Nelson? Poole? surnames are also tracks... so that's 4/7 - Jeremy as no.8 and Kieran as no.9 perhaps

I also seem to remember an epic from Monmore in the 80s, the four team tournament finals I think. That seemed to last for ever. I was there - 48 heats.

when a speedway meeting takes longer than a round of golf one wonders who can spare the time if one has a family to think about...

Wildcards 2017.....
Mike.Butler replied to Panthers89's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
In which case why only have 1 wildcard per meeting? Not sure this is the primary criteria -
Aside from Cradley this Saturday can anyone in the know advise whether Stoke are planning on running any further home meetings this season? I want to visit to complete all tracks this season, but am beginning to worry they might (again) not race all their home league meetings. I know Malcolm has given me some stick re this when we last spoke but why haven't they got dates for any of their outstanding fixtures?

National Speedway Stadium - Too Sanitized?
Mike.Butler replied to Little Thumper's topic in National League Speedway
For some peculiar reason I feel less inclined to drive from Liverpool to Sussex via the National Stadium than I did to go to Kirky Lane.. I think it must be to do with 'sanitisation' as suggested earlier. Very odd. But then how will I feel about Brentford's new ground when its built compared to 50+ years going to Griffin Park.. maybe the same...Anyway, I promise to make more of an effort..maybe its just getting used to the place -

What Changes Have To Be Made In 2017?
Mike.Butler replied to Sidney the robin's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
the one single thing that would help enormously is full strength sides week in week out from April-September (so that's two things) -
