Leicester V Coventry Sat 4th April
IainB replied to mdmc82's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
We probably saw more minutes of the tractor on the track than we did the bikes, perhaps this is where British Speedway is going wrong! They should be promoting it as a tractor showcase with bikes coming around in between to rough the surface up again so we can all see how good a job the tractor does... a different tractor each week perhaps? It may just get the farmers through the turnstiles... -

Prices and fixture planning need looking at, look at last week for example: Fri: Cov vs Wolves - £18 Sun: Bombers Bash - £20 Mon: Wolves vs Cov - £18 Fri: Cov vs Leicester - £18 Sat: Leicester vs Cov - £17 There's £91 quid and that's before you've even got there! add in a prog, maybe something to eat and drink and you're looking at £150 for the week. You could have a week in Spain for that -

Yes, a good race I was there, there was only one other half decent race that night, against Wolves I'm struggling to recall any... in fact I've been attending Coventry since 1984 and have watched the decline in the standard of racing, particularly recently, over the years. Whether this is to do with bikes, riders or track prep I don't know, but Leicester is certainly no worse than Coventry. In fact I think that the racing at Leicester has improved recently, since they entered the EL with a better quality of rider racing the track and as riders have got used to it. -

Silence... we are not the thugs that attend football who can't control themselves to be quiet for 1 single minute, that's the only reason that people applaud these days Quote from Neil Watson on the Wolves vs Cov thread re not having RR for Robbo at Wolves "I understand your thoughts, but we have to be open to the possibility of losing a rider to injury early in the meeting." Confused... -

I don't know if I missed something with the scoring but what would of happened if the final finished as a 3-3, who would have won?

I've been to a few meetings already this season and I can't say I've noticed any difference in the starting procedure, riders are still taking an eternity to line up at the tapes, especially at Cov last night. Now I know Peter Yorke is not the most reliable of sources but he said that a rider has to be in contact with his machine, pointing in the direction of the tapes. It seems to me that this is an unbreakable rule as I'm struggling to think of any other position a rider could get himself into!!

More On The Decline Of British Speedway
IainB replied to keepturningleft's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
It's almost impossible to get an unobstructed view at Leicester unless you're on the very front row of the perimeter, which is very poor for a bespoke speedway stadium. Other than that it's a nice place to go. The track seems to be better with the better quality riders on it -
I think the racing in the EL has been abysmal this year, as a matter of interest, how long have you been going to Brandon?
-
This is not league specific, the problem runs throughout the whole sport, all 3 leagues and individual competitions Doesn't matter what's gone now, they should have done. It's the future we should be thinking about, or there might not be one Because he's the man in post So let's start now OK let's give up It's personal because he's the man in post

Alex Harkess, when are you going to step up and do something for British Speedway and step down! As chairman of British Speedway you have presided over the continual decline of the sport over the last number of years to the point last night where we had a Wolverhampton team riding at Swindon consisting of no Wolverhampton riders and a 5 man Coventry team tracked consisting of 3 Coventry riders! We are now at a point in this country where league racing is unsustainable, there are just not enough riders available to run 3 leagues with riders doubling and in some cases tripling up with countless fixture clashes. We have the new Fast Track system in place, which at the start of the year seemed like a great idea to bring on the youth of British Speedway, but as the season as gone on this has turned into a farce, with the inevitable injuries that have occurred you now have 27 year old veterans on this list. The season started off on a farcical note with the ELRC and the subsequent promise of inquiries etc, but to my knowledge there was no punishment dished out, the list goes on, far too many for me to list here but just browsing through the forums on the pages and pages of things that should just not be happening in a so called professionally run sport. And what do we ever hear from Alex Harkess? What is his strategy for the improvement of the sport? Is there a plan? Where is the leadership? When is somebody going to take some responsibility?
