Thursdays - Use them or lose them!
IainB replied to Grachan's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
All I remember is attending Coventry, Cradley, Eastbourne, Swindon etc etc on Saturday nights and always in front of healthy crowds, the ONLY thing that should dictate what night a club runs on is the availability of the stadium for the night a club wants to run on. GP riders seem to be able to make it to a Polish League match on a Sunday afternoon from wherever the GP event has been held on the Saturday night so why any other riders couldn't I fail to understand, Poland is 3 hours away max, on an early morning redeye they could be at the stadium by 11 am. Some riders are going to have to make some tough decisions either 30 odd matches in the UK or a handful in Poland. British Speedway can't be running it's business to suit others, it's never been at a better place to lay down some of its own rules, all of the prima Donna riders have been weened out of the league and with the country brexited by the start of next season there'll be no restriction of trade laws to block British Speedway doing its own thing. I think we all agree something radical needs to happen, Poland really shouldn't be an issue anymore! -
I've not read it but I hope to grab a copy at the weekend... Did David Howe or anybody for that matter also mention how much the riders are earning from the sport? Or is this still the world's best kept secret?

I think the top League should take Friday and Saturday nights, especially now with minimal impact from the GP's -
The dog is probably having a better time than you! Especially at BP

Yes I do

One upside of the aging demographic of the speedway fan is that soon they'll be bringing their carers along, it might just save the sport
-
It won't change the way it's being run at the moment but surely that has to be the goal for clubs like Eastbourne, KL, Somerset etc with no major football team in the vicinity, it pains me to say it but there's only really Poole that are anywhere near to doing that
-
I think they've always had pretty good crowds haven't they... The money came with the fall of communism, sponsorship, advertising etc. The money goes where the crowds are

I fear it'll be a waste of paper and ink... You'd be better off extending the classifieds section... Club for sale, all offers considered

Anyone remember Dalle Andersen?
IainB replied to steve roberts's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Didn't he debut over here the same year as Hans N Andersen before he lost his N -
Weren't they promoted this year for winning "the league"?

Rider of the year: James Sarjent, for single handedly doubling the length of time it takes to run a meeting, what great value for money Most impressive team: Poole for managing to cheat their way to a title yet again Team rider of the season: Chris Holder One to watch: Matt Fraud Bulldog award (Best British rider): Rory Schlein Meeting of the season: Eastbourne vs Mildenhall 26/10/18 Surprise of the season: That the sport managed to survive it Underperformers (Team): BSPA Unluckiest rider: James Sargent, the refs keep picking on him Newcomer of the season: Martin Vaculik

Riders used in 2018 Belle Vue 11 King's Lynn 11 Leicester 15 Poole 13 Somerset 10 Swindon 8 Wolves 8 Only 2 teams in single figures... I'd say that was most
-
Was that pre DU though?

Don't forget Cov

Most of the club's rip their teams up during the year! Look at Poole and Leicester, the worst offenders, tbf Swindon did pretty well this year
-
As clubs are generally forced to break up a title winning squad that's certainly no reward for winning the title! And what is a wood spiral?

Oh, please reply THJ... He's not given you much to go on though

Just goes to show how toothless (spineless) the SCB is -
It can still be done... Look at how many riders Swindon used this season and they finished mid table

Or a Craven Shield or something?
