  1. Weren't there some indoor meetings in the 80's held on concrete/tarmac. I seem to remember Jan Andersen being a specialist and used to apply hair laquer to his back tyre Didn't they used to have concrete start grids way way way way back in the day? And looking at that back tyre, doesn't it look a bit... special? Maybe it's just at a higher pressure
  2. That's something I remember Gollob used to do quite a bit in his earlier days, like he fell asleep and lost concentration when he was out in front, seemed to eradicate that from his game in the later years.... just as an aside, and this is about as random as it gets, this popped up after that Gollob race and looked quite a fun piece
  3. Sorry to "spam" you but during this lock down I've transferred all of my speedway DVD collection to PC and uploaded it to a YouTube channel I created. Some of the quality leaves a bit to be desired as it was all originally from VHS and some of it in Long Play mode. Anyway what I've got that hopefully doesn't break copyright is on my channel Sunshine Speedway... take a look https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbfL52jLjSBNAZUPgTWCDDw/
  4. Was that the one where Sam just missed (or maybe glanced) the wooden post sticking out of the ground with his head? I remember thinking how very different it could have been if the post had been positioned a few inches to the left as his neck was very exposed!
  5. I remember the Berger Grand Prix also... in fact I think it maybe a good idea to run that competition again this year as and when we can get going as I don't think it's going to be feasible to run a league campaign this season with all of the foreign riders needing to quarantine for 2 weeks, so they could maybe look at pooling the British riders and running regional GP series around regional tracks with maybe a semi and finals at the end of the season... just a thought
  6. I seem to remember a rider hitting one of the floodlight posts back in the late 70's or early 80's at Blackbird road and bringing the post down... maybe Mike Lanham or Mike Farrel??
  7. It surprised me that nobody asked why the testing capacity yesterday was 108,000 yet on the 30th of April the government claimed over 120,000 tested?!?
  8. That was it, Shorne Speed Racing... was it just spares? Maybe just selling "luck"
  9. Didn't Jessup go on to run a engine tuning business? Not a great advert
  10. That's all I remember Jessup for, packing up... It's always explained away as luck which annoys me, it always happened too often for it to be luck... Another rider who I always felt suffered "bad luck" with his engines too often was Richard Hellsen
  11. Not a fan then I remember one time at BV (I think, must have been a BLRC) when he tried to give Sam Ermolenko the nickname "Emperor Sam"!!!! This was after about 10 years of him ALWAYS being referred to as "Sudden Sam"... still makes me laugh
  12. One thing that always bothered me was Hans Nielsen being referred to as "The Professor" I watched Hans pretty much from the start of his career and never once heard him referred to as "The Professor", was this a Sky creation or did I just live a sheltered life? I only ever heard him referred to as "The Main Dane"... I tell a lie, I heard a lot worse at a number of clubs he didn't ride for
  13. I used to like watching the sky and trees... sometimes more entertaining than the racing
  14. Me too... I remember Ole & Bruce lifting both at the same time right in front of where we were standing
  15. With any luck this Coronavirus will see the end of Brandon Estates
  16. Maybe 2 metres wouldn't be needed if face masks are worn, I don't know
  17. Didn't he leave his window open because the dog farted?!?
  18. If the wearing of face masks in public becomes compulsory there maybe a way to resume. Everybody is so much more aware now what's needed to suppress the spread of this virus... Of course we're not being told to wear face masks in public yet probably due to the fact we haven't got enough but I think it will happen
  19. Bringing this back to Speedway and with the prospect of the lock down being lifted in the coming weeks I wonder how well British Speedway is placed to resume sooner rather than later? If, as looks likely, there will be a phased return there are many issues that the sport faces. What if it's a geographical return? What if it's an age demographic return? What if physical social distancing is still required? How will medical cover be provided? What if a rider gets injured? I wonder if clubs have a plan to mitigate these possible restrictions? Do clubs have contactless admission payment systems? There's probably many more issues, that's just a few for starters
  20. You're right there is no true evidence, a bit like the consequences of Brexit, some think it'll be a dawn of a new golden era other's think it'll be the end of the country, truth is we just don't know until it happens. The difference with this pandemic though is that there have been scientific models done based on good data, taking me back to one of my original posts in this thread regarding the BBC Pandemic program that aired a couple of years back and certainly got my alarm bells ringing when all this kicked off. That model said that if the whole country suffered a "standard" flu pandemic with a mortality rate of 1% and no action taken there would be around 500,000 deaths, that was based on "standard" flu where symptoms show within hours of you catching the virus, as we know it can take a couple of weeks for this virus to present and although we don't know for sure the mortality rate seems to be a lot higher than 1%... so add half a million for every percentage point increase in mortality rate
  21. All media should be handed over to the people that do Glasgow's... they're on a different level
  22. Bwitcher is probably busy burning down a 5G mast at the moment
