I suppose the only thing that has changed is that the "big" transfer seems to be a thing of the past with the Lee Richardson one being the last one I can find. I wonder if there is anything to stop a promoter going on a road trip of Europe and mopping up any unsigned rider on the off chance they may ride in Britain and can then charge loan fees... I presume Birmingham have the World Champion on their "retained list"
-
Brilliantly explained, Thanks! All sounds a bit "Fantasy Speedway League" like to me, but if it works, which it seems to do then great. Looks like the day of the "big" transfer fee are over, for a while at least.
-
Because there are only 6 teams in the so called league
-
If you thought the gaps were long in the Polish match... try a Swedish one lol. On Premier Sports they even put other programmes on within the match to fill the gaps! Watching a Polish match, now that the crowds are back, is a but like watching a GP with the quality of rider, crowd size and atmosphere, although for me personally I have no vested interest in which team wins and watch very much as a neutral, where I tune into a GP wanting a British rider to win. In this country, under normal circumstances, the GP is the flagship event and then going to a league match is very much an after the lord mayor's show affair. It's a bit like cricket in that respect comparing a test match to country cricket.

Didn't you used to get a percentage of a transfer fee depending on whether you asked for a transfer or not? Or have I just made that up?
-
I think you've hit the nail on the head there... it all seems to be pretty notional these days I think
-
Was Roynon a free agent then? He's been around for years? Or was he "owned" by the BSPL? If so, talk about hitting a club when they're down, offloading a rider to a financially struggling club.
-
It's all very strange isn't it? Are loan fees still a thing then? Whereby your leasing/loaning a worthless asset. Just done a quick Google and it looks as though the last big transfer, or one of them, was the late Lee Richardson back in 2004 for £32,000 + VAT. If memory serves they bought him to replace Leigh Adams
-
To have assets to sell... surely you need buyers. It's definitely a buyers market I'd say
-
"Creative" Accounting
-
Yeah, I get what you're saying and I'm no accountant but the riders aren't employees. Back in the day transfer fees were a thing that's why I wondered if things had changed. When a club is sold are the value of the assets included I wonder? Otherwise you're selling nothing but the name and licence to run really
-
Resurrecting this one, as I was thinking yesterday... Are club assets still a thing? When was a rider last transferred on a "full transfer" for a transfer fee? Which rider has the transfer record? Is it still Jason Crump v1.0 Do clubs show rider "assets" on their balance sheets? Would Leicester, for example, be showing Martin Vaculik and Paweł Przedpełski on their balance sheet? And at what value? As realistically at the moment in the UK they're worthless.

Stars v Panthers. Thursday 01/07/21

They don't like it up 'em -
Yes... I am losing interest

It's an extra £3 for a prog these days though. Perhaps you should get a free race card on entry and then if you choose buy a "Match Day Magazine" for £3. And like I said in a previous post, free entry to the 2nd halves is what initially got me started... to lump out £20 on something you may or may not like is quite a lot these days, especially when there are generally no other offers these days since they stopped reducing the price of TV matches.

I've been going on about this for a while, it ain't going to be cheap, but I do think British Speedway needs some kind of interactive app to attract the kids, especially on race night, with interactive collectables etc. Just something simple, like get selfies with all of the riders in an online album like the old Panini sticker books... and a club emblem badge hidden around the stadium somewhere. Not sure how you'd do swaps though... got, got, got, got, got, got, got, NEED!
-
Does anybody else struggle to make out the riders number on their back or is it just me? Should have gone to Specsavers
-
That's the match I'm referring to not the KoC match at Scunny. Well spotted
-
Would Lasse ride for the Bates again... didn't they part controversially?
-
I'm referring to the match at Leicester
-
Have you seen them at all?

Cat Fight. P'boro v Sheffield 28 June
IainB replied to Col's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
If we are going to indulge in a bit of sarcasm though... Come to Peterborough to watch the Speedway! Unless there's a bit of drizzle in the air, then come! Oh... unless it's a sunny night and the sun gets in the riders eyes, then come. Oh and if you didn't realise, did you know the speedway bikes don't have any brakes on them! I know dangerous right?! Maybe we should have wet weather setups, weather shield on the bikes with wipers on and mandatory fitting of brakes to the bikes. I've stopped being sarcastic now. Visibility was not an issue on Monday night I don't even know why they're suggesting it was? -

If they're going to potentially not run meetings due to "visibility" in the conditions that were prevalent on Monday night then the sport is finished in this country. It wasn't even raining. Quit with the sarcasm... it is the lowest form of wit -

Isn't that why they were tear offs or the roller system? You've seen them ride in the rain, drizzle, wet muddy tracks with mud spray. I've seen Coventry riding at Belle Vue (Hyde Road) in the last ever meeting with driving monsoon rain sweeping across the stadium. All I'm suggesting is that the visibility was not the issue on Monday evening. Please save your sarcasm for when it's really needed
