Exactly how I started going to Speedway, the freebie 2nd half and it wasn't 1 second half and I was in, like you said it was 4 or 5 and then the odd paid full match and then got hooked from there

I thought heat 7 was protected? Or is/ was that just the PL? -
I could be wrong as there are never any official numbers published but going on sight I would say the last Cardiff GP but one visually looked to be its largest crowd ever, after a pandemic and the start of a "cost of living crisis" it was followed by easily the worst crowd attendance, which came as a bit of a shock after the 2019 event. DSE will have to pull out a few stops to encourage people back this year.

Somebody heard the words world champion but didn't stick around to hear the end... 125cc junior long track. This piece didn't age well: https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/other-sport/mascot-max-14-is-on-course-to-become-a-full-time-peterborough-panthers-rider-3174480 -
London Stadium 80,000 for concerts, 60,000 seated, according to wiki anyway. Don't forget there wasn't Speedway or mention of it in Cardiff... until there was. Speedway was iconic at Wembley, but we're talking 40 or 50 years ago... I wouldn't think the modern, diverse population of London would even know anything about Speedway or it''s history. One thing I will agree on though is that it's easier to get to. Did this "story" make the paper do you know or was it just website click bait for the Speedway fan?

I did indeed... 1981 World Final, fantastic day, quite a warm one if I remember correctly also remember my dad paying 50p for a can of coke... 50p in 1981 was probably as much as it cost to get into a league meeting. A few comments... Is Wembley still Wembley? I haven't been to the new Wembley so I'm not sure. If it had kept the Twin Towers maybe but to level the place and start again I don't know. Other stadiums have been re-developed and kept their iconic structures. Cardiff couldn't attract 20,000 last year, 20,000 in a 74,000 stadium looked bad, 20,000 in a 90,000? Not a great look. Peter Oakes was the person that got the "story" onto the Daily Star website a nice bit of publicity for the sport but nothing more than that. If Speedway were to return to London and that's a big if personally I'd prefer to create a new history at the London Stadium which has a smaller capacity, better transport links and infrastructure set around it.

Don't hold your breath... this is just a bit of free publicity thanks to Peter Oakes (nothing wrong with that)

£20 is a fair price... but we love Speedway, would you pay £20 to go watch a MotoX meet? I have no interest in MX, don't know anything about it but having just done a quick google search there was a meeting at Oxford last year, Sunday entrance was £25 and for that there was nearly 5 hours track time... compared to our 15 minutes... actually for 5 hours I might https://tmxnews.co.uk/news/motocross/british-motocross-championship/mxgb-2022-british-motocross-championship-guide-riders-travel/

You know my feelings about "2nd halfs", as this was my way into Speedway and this biggest promotional tool the sport has, the let em in free option has been closed off with the abandonment of 2 halfs. £20 for something you may never have seen before is quite an outlay these days, but if you've been to a few 2nd half freebies and thought, I like the look of this you may be more inclined to shell out for the "real thing", I know me and my dad were and a lifelong hobby began. And I'm talking about proper 2nd halfs, not just junior track time practice sessions, 2nd halfs that involve the senior members of the club, maybe for them to try things out etc. It's time for the riders to step up to the plate to save the sport in this country by not disappearing as soon as the 15 heats are over to their next booking for a different club. And it wasn't just a tool to get fans in, it was also a tool to get local companies involved with sponsorship, companies would sponsor the Rider of the Night trophy and bring clients along and have their photo taken with the winner at the end of the night.

Yeah, i know, i get you... for some reason these guys fly under the radar, they're not as high profile as some of the other kids, they're quite quiet, they just go about their business scoring points -

JT was 2nd top scorer for Scunny tonight... and barely got a mention on BSN, now there's people on here speculating he'll be replaced and the same for DT on the Leicester thread... people need to cut these kids a break
