  1. Div 1: Belle Vue Ipswich Kings Lynn Peterborough Sheffield Wolverhampton Poole Leicester Glasgow Oxford Div 2: Berwick Birmingham Plymouth Scunthorpe Kent Mildenhall Redcar IOW ANY new team coming in/back 7,6,5 or 4 rider teams, what ever is needed to run without doubling up All clubs to run a 3/4 rider junior team as a 2nd half
  2. You get the feeling that the "promoters" don't want to run meetings, any excuse to postpone and the gradual destruction of fixture staples through the years
  3. I really hope so too... but if it's anything like the Coventry fiasco they had years of warning yet did absolutely nothing about getting a new home. I fear Edinburgh & Peterborough will go the same way, although there is a dog track in Peterborough I understand
  4. The Edinburgh derbies will be a thing of the past at the end of this season... except for early season challenges against a Monarchs team made up of riders with very tenuous links to the club
  5. Surely there will come a point where running 2 6 team leagues just won't be sustainable? I'm sick of going through these threads every year reading the same old comments, you can probably copy and past last years Eastbourne thread into this one and Rye House before that... etc.
  6. maybe not... but if it ain't next year, it'll be coming soon, it's just putting off the inevitable unless there are BIG changes to address the problems we can all see
  7. There's so many reasons... and we've all discussed them ad infinitum and still nobody does anything to address any of the problems. Likelihood next year will be (must be) one league with reduced team numbers, which of course will be launched with great fanfare, a new era etc. etc. 5 year plan blah blah blah
  8. I think Peterborough are on borrowed time also
  9. Happy days! People will be telling us soon that nobody liked the 4's least of all the riders
  10. If you remember before the pandemic struck it was going to be on the day after the British GP at Leicester... and everybody was up in arms about that
  11. If the promoter's can't take it seriously, why should the riders... and if the riders can't why would the fans This will probably be the last one... which is a bloody travesty!
  12. PLAY-OFF PICTURE – HOW IT WORKS– Winner of each group to 3 team final held at neutral track (Sheffield on a Sunday in November) over a 6 rider 18 heat format.
  13. So the current state of British Speedway... British Final on a Monday night, CLRC on a Wednesday night, No Fours, No PLRC, No Test Matches, No point
  14. Do you get the feeling they don't want fans attending this one?
  15. You're lucky it's in the UK... next year it'll be subbed out to Poland
  16. Line-Up has been revealed 1 Ed Kennett 2 Bradley Wilson Dean 3 Adam Ellis 4 Danny King 5 Richard Lawson 6 Ben Cook 7 Zach Cook 8 Drew Kemp 9 Nathan Ablitt 10 Chris Harris (of course) 11 Chris Holder (if he's in the pits) 12 Jack Holder (if he's with Chris) 13 Steve Worrall 14 Richie Worrall (if he can come down with this brother) 15 R/R 16 Shovlar
  17. Yep, So, basically now it's a fixture filler Saturday 18th June Saturday 2nd July Saturday 20th August Saturday 27th August Saturday 3rd September No senior fixtures in the UK, except for GP Challenge at Glasgow ... and whatever happened to the 4's? And the PLRC? UK Speedway hits a new low
  18. A Wednesday night in Poole... what a draw!
  19. Haha... I was the exact opposite when Mr Ebdon was officiating, knew I'd be able to get away early, different folks, different strokes. Living in Leicester I was without a local track for about 30 years, so had to travel for my Speedway, so was always happy to get on the road early before the road network closed down for the night
  20. That's a shame as it really does depend on what track you go to... there is a hell of a lot of hanging around at Leicester and it's generally a 2 hour package, depending on the sun. Peterborough are generally done and dusted in 90 mins... with a 10 min interval
  21. Is it time for video replays in Speedway? Especially for on the line close finishers when the race points are dished out. Last night on the BSN the replay clearly showed that Summers won heat 3 on the line but the ref gave it the other way. Didn't make much difference in the grand scheme of things but the ref also gave a decision on Monday at Peterborough to Jordan Jenkins when most people i would have thought could see that Dan Thompson got the point... which in the end cost Sheffield an away victory. I know people will throw up cost as a reason not to do it but we live in 2022 and you can easily setup a mobile phone on a tripod to review such close finishes, cost should not be an issue for this.
  22. Great! the year is 2030 and this week it's Berwick A vs Berwick B, with the return fixture next week to decide the final 2 play off spots in the 2 team league to decide the Super Elite Premier Championship Summer League Knock Out Cup. Seriously though... Berwick do seem to be a bit of a go ahead promotion, do they do a lot of promotional activities? And what are the alternatives in the area?
  23. Personally I'm not sure they became unpopular... The quality of the line-ups certainly lessened, clubs closed and race nights changed. If you get a decent line-up and promote it well you can still draw a decent crowd for an individual meeting. I keep mentioning it but the Peter Craven Memorial held on a Monday night in Manchester in March drew a near sell out crowd. Has it? Maybe in this country but not everywhere, USA and Australia spring to mind. The very first match I attended was the Silver Jubilee individual meeting at Leicester in 1977, it was the spectacle, the noise, the smell that drew me in, 4 riders, 4 laps, dirt flying, no brakes... quite a hook! Was a part timer for around a season and a half before really getting into it and that's when the problems start, the more you know about Speedway the more you wish you didn't. For me it's still those very reasons that hooked me in that keep me going today... I just have to put up with all of the other crap and at the moment for me it's still just about worth it. I wouldn't worry, I'm sure at this stage he doesn't really know who is who. It's only when he gets to look into the detail that you'll have some explaining to do... but hopefully by then he'll be addicted!
