The future of British Speedway after the 2023 season
IainB replied to TTT's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
We had a season with all teams running R/R and 18 heats(?)... it was a disaster -
Chris Holder used to have "Doin Eetswa" a few years back
-
I think Erik Gundersen used to carry that too
-
He did... isn't that the Rolling Stones logo?
-
Like @Bagpuss said you don't see many these days but I've seen a few riders recently with "cheeky" messages. Simon Lambert has something on his bum
-
Didn't Simon Cross have something like "Jesus Loves You"? Because of his surname I assume
-
Good... now I've got your attention, some riders have little messages on the rear end of their race suits. Any that spring to mind (past or present) and maybe the meaning "behind" them? Scott Nicholls has "put her on Kevin!" on the back of his suit? What's that all about?
-
Don't forget Laguta is coming to Leicester
-
Hans has been a loyal servant to British Speedway when many have disappeared. He may not be the rider he once was but if you take him for what he now is you know he's going to be there for fixtures when many others won't be
-
His usual co-commentator for GP's. Last years league coverage had him with a different co-commentator each week. Scott really should have been with him in the "box" as it was pretty pointless him standing in front of a large TV doing more or less what could have been done from the box

It's been the same for the last 23 years though, we MUST see the winner cross the line and we MUST see the scorecard result after the race, it doesn't matter if all hell is breaking loose elsewhere on the track we MUST see those 2 things... and when a rider or a team win something meaningful we MUST cut to the crowd for their reaction... even if it's one man and his dog waving a flag of that riders country! I've noticed even BSN are starting to fall into this trap
-
Despite what some people, who weren't there, have said the crowd was fairly healthy, compared to the other Thursday matches that have been held so far this year... but understandably down on previous years Saturday nights. Personally, I do wish I had gone to Peterborough instead. There was a complete neglect for the paying fans in the stadium with constant delays and the only interruption to the PA music and distant chugging of a tractor, the meeting presenter coming on to say we're just waiting for Eurosport. The sport really should be asking itself what is it getting out of TV coverage and especially that of Eurosport. When the cameras do decide to eventually turn up the track is generally prepared differently to normal and invariably produces poor racing. There was dust after heat 1 last night, unforgivable, clouds of dust bellowing up after 4 or 5 races and as I repositioned myself to a different part of the stadium I witnessed people with a coating of dust on their clothes as I went walked around. It didn't help that the Sheffield team didn't really turn up apart from the always impressive Tobiasz Musielak, but normally when this kind of thing happens the track is normally on point and the meeting is run at pace. The beauty of the BSN coverage is that it doesn't effect the running of a meeting, they are just there to capture it and work around it. I hope that the sport is getting a big chunk of money for the televising of Speedway, whether directly or indirectly with the recent league sponsorship deal. I for one will not be attending another "TV meeting" when there is an alternative until the powers that be provide something to fill the gaps... maybe this will be something that Mr Morris will turn his attention to at some point?

I'm a Leicester fan... it was boring. 2 hours and 10 minutes for 15 heats leaves a lot of time to get bored
-
You should try being here! Compete disregard for the attending punters! After 23 years you world have thought they would have thought of something to fill the long gaps of nothing happening
-
There's been a noisy contingent of Sheffield fans chanting for most of the night... mainly slagging off Belle Vue
-
Even through the dust
-
It's Eurosport... always have been and always will be a bit of a joke, I don't know why people expect any different. Here comes the water. Track will be competely different. Don't know why we've got the Sheffield track man prepping the track though!
-
Come on Fireman Phil, track desperately needs watering
-
I'd say it's the best of the season... Musliak did a practice start wearing no helmet, that'll be an instant fine
-
You may have just convinced me to go to Peterborough
-
The special one said, on BSN commentary the other night, for the riders to bring their tinted goggles as there'll be no sun break with Eurosport in town... we'll see
-
Saturday night and there's not 1 meeting on in the UK south of Redcar... a really sad state of affairs
-
I've said it before... and I'll say it again, fixed race nights were not brought in to prevent riders from leaving the UK but to allow doubling up absences, which it has done. That's not to say it's not effected some clubs crowds by forcing anybody that wants to run in the top league to potentially run on "off-nights"

When is the final? Next year? -

I keep hearing what a great race track the Redcar track is, I'm still to see it... looks like a 1 line track scraping the fence like at Poole to me
