Agreed! You're both right of course, this is a Championship thread after all. I think because I'm fortunate enough to be able to regularly attend Leicester & Peterborough, I am able to see a lot of Speedway (also being a fan) and the lines between the 2 leagues are quite blurred at the moment. I see the same riders turning out in both leagues and while Nick Morris (picked at random) may be a draw in the CL, he's probably not so much a draw in the PL.

What they were promising would have done for starters
-
Not really commenting on a 36 point limit but with all due respect to the riders you've mentioned, I don't really think they are attractions. The last riders to put my bum on a seat were Tai Woffinden at the Peter Craven Memorial and Dan Bewley at the British Final
-
Or they could, god forbid, actually try promoting the meaningless meetings they put on. I know, difficult to comprehend
-
I would have thought they would have made a big loss on Cardiff, surely they couldn't have expected 19k when crowds had pretty much increased year on year culminating in the biggest crowd ever in 2019! They're probably tied into a multi year contract i would have thought... I wonder if there's a get out?

All looks a bit uninspiring doesn't it, what happened to the big stadium events in Speedway country's like Parken, Horsens, Ullevi, Stockholm etc.
-
Back on a positive note, one other positive for me was watching the SGP 3 meeting from Wroclaw. Easily, by some distance the best racing I've seen in a single meeting for quite some time. If you haven't watched it, I recommend you do... it's what Speedway used to be like
-
I wrote a rather long email to the Leicester promotion offering ideas on how to "cash-in" on their Championship win back at the beginning of last year when they were complaining that the crowds were too low... email was never responded to, not even a courtesy, thanks for your email but go away!
-
I agree... I'd slim the pay offs down to 3 though It's not economically sufficient to run the "home" leg of your pay off final 2 hours away from where all your fans live
-
The first thing I'm doing is ordering a replay of the 2nd leg of the CL pay off final... at the beginning of next season... with whatever teams both clubs sign
-
"They" are the board of directors... Who will do it? I'll do it!

There's a fan vote at the moment on whether Rob Godfrey should resign, it's currently at 87% that he should do one... be interesting to see if they implement that or not

Jubilee championship league
IainB replied to westlakejawa's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
There's no reason for Glasgow not to be in this now... and it can be held at the neutral venue, Sheffield, as originally planned. Anything else, like others have said, is just an inter league friendly. -
Could have paid for it with what they saved on points money!
-
Leicester should have stood the cost as a gesture of goodwill and maybe made the money back in food and drinks
-
Yes, a pretty decent rider when he applied himself, never fulfilled his potential really. What he did while he was Coventry captain though was pretty low! Got a 12 month ban, 6 months suspended.
-
The Ed Kennett who got caught cheating while the captain of Coventry and received a ban, the Ed Kennett that was complicit in Plymouth cheating all season long? That Ed Kennett? As for the rest, I agree these are the riders that keep Speedway going in this country

The positives for me, despite the BSPL: The quality of the racing on the Leicester Speedway track, the best it's ever been! Rob Lambert & Dan Bewley's elevation to world class riders The return of Oxford, went down for the Leicester match and was probably my best Speedway experience of the season! BSN has been a massive plus this year for the fan of Speedway in general, being able to watch Speedway from around the country at a reasonable price, it'll be interesting to see what they charge next year, if they signed a multi-year deal with the BSPL or whether BSPL will try and cash in In fact as usual the Speedway on track I have seen this year is as good as it's always been, especially with the kids coming through, it's only the organistion this year which has badly let the sport down

I don't get it, these people are allegedly successful local business people yet they aren't able to do the basics with a Speedway club. You're right though these competitions do seem to be irrelevant to most of them, we've lost the CL 4's, the CLRC tucked away at Poole on a Wednesday night, unable to complete the CL season satisfactorily, Jubilee Trophy abandoned, PL Pairs abandoned, PL league meetings being run after the pay offs had been held, PL League Cup running after the season had finished... perhaps 2023 should just consist of the KO Cup as that was about the only competition they were able to run within the specified timelines! Any self respecting club owner would NEVER let happen what happened to Leicester in the pay off final... these club owners come and go, I was here following Leicester before they came and I'll be here long after they've done with their play thing. I'm still pretty p1ssed off as you may be able to tell

Adults go free if accompanied by a fully paying dog
-
Nobody plans to run after the cut off date at the moment... but they do. 2) it would be their own fault for not having accrued enough points prior to qualify. Don't forget this is a league, not a knock out competition. 3) There's a difference between poor conditions and a waterlogged track. If the ref deems the track rideable it's down to both teams to get on with it.
-
tbf the rain we had on the Monday & Tuesday after the track was "repaired" was pretty intense. Doesn't matter which way you cut it though, if BSPL forced Leicester to move to Lynn or the Bates took the decision to move it to Lynn... on a Friday night was a kick in the teeth for both sets of fans. Leicester did NOTHING to mitigate the move for the home fans... no coaches organised, they could even have opened the club house up and put the stream on a big projector, sold a bit of food and some drinks... may even have made some money on it, nope... nothing!
-
Who took the decision to move the deciding final "Home" leg to KL though, we don't know? Which ever way you look at it, it stinks!
