There is only a single reason for pay offs and that is to satisfy the TV companies. The ONLY team sport that is big enough to call the shots to the TV companies is Premier League Football as they know there would be an outcry from the fans if pay offs were to be introduced... just like there is every time they try and introduce a "super league" What these sports have to weigh up is the benefit of the TV contract... in Speedway's case their "broadcast partners" are probably doing more harm than good to the sport for the pittance they pay for it. -

As somebody who squeezed into Brandon to watch the double header league decider vs Hull & Leicester I can attest that pay offs are not needed to completely fill a speedway stadium -

Hopefully next season they'll do away with the wretched things altogether! They've caused nothing but trouble in every league, fixture and rider availability wise, ever since they were introduced. After what has happened this year they've lost any credibility they may of once had. -

Where were all of these so called fans when the Eurosport cameras were in town showing the King's Lynn match? The part time glory hunters all come out of the woodwork at this time is the year -

Just like many of the Aces fans who, all of a sudden, have put an appearance in after having gone missing all season long -
Thankfully Ben Cook's injury was not as bad as was possibly first thought (even though the Belle Vue website doesn't even think it worthy of mention)... but imagine it had have been and it was all because he was riding in a meeting he should never have been participating in!

I've always thought that riders would find more speed by tidying up their riding style to be more smooth rather than cheating with parts/engines etc. Listening to what DJ Woffy was saying on the podcast about removing lacquer from knee braces etc. Seemed to be taking things to the extreme, you'd save a fraction of a nano second by doing that but pulling a locker or something and you'd easily lose a whole second from your lap time
-
I'm always dubious about riders deliberately laying their bikes down, especially at league level, I mean who wants to deliberately have a motorcycle accident? I can understand them sometimes not being in a hurry to get up but this is normally for purely selfish reasons of maybe being in a rerun I would suspect.

It would do if the fans weren't left standing around for 20 minutes while the riders put new tyres on for the last 2 races... a fact that is known at the start of the meeting. All riders should have an extra wheel with tyre fitted ready to go, if it's not used, then use it for the next meeting. -
That's great! They can now destroy another rider's career like they did with the last William Cairns... Max Perry!

A slightly different topic I know but I think non-enforcement of the actual rules is a bigger problem these days, I by no means see all the speedway that goes on in the UK but from what I have seen, particularly this season, it is worse than ever before and I'm not talking about referee opinion, I mean clear black and white rules that just aren't enforced.

Yes, I meant top 6 in this meeting, you got me all mixed up by bringing the GP's into it. Rules say top 6 qualify: 014.7.2 Race Format The 16 rider, 20 heat format is utilised when the top 2 riders will be seeded direct to Heat 22 and the next 4 riders finishing positions 3rd to 6th, will compete in Heat 21 from which the top 2 will go forward to Heat 22. Masters "finished" 5th Kemp "finished" 7th Masters, unfortunately, "withdrew" from the meeting, he wasn't excluded from the meeting. They're the published regs, like @Gambosaid you must probably have an unpublished supplementary reg that none of us have seen? -

Anyway, this wasn't a GP, top 8 qualify, Kemp finished 9th
