  1. As the USA could not field a team last season due to injuries and the AMA not helping to fund the travel of other riders, they were banned from this year's competition. It is a shame because Greg Hancock, Josh Larsen, Sam Ermolenko and Billy Hamill won the World Team Cup in 1993. Add Billy Janniro to the team and they would have been very competitive this year. They should be eligible to compete again next season.
  2. I thought that Skegness was quite a nice track, although some of the stadium was pretty run down. I liked the place though.
  3. Arena Essex (1991-1994 was best) Wolverhampton Pardubice I like wide tracks where there is room to pass.
  4. I think I'm right in saying that Bryn parted company with his trousers at Arena one year. Am I right Bryn? I also seem to remember Andy Galvin, Troy Pratt and others tying Pete Thorogood to the starting gate, stripping him down to his undies putting flour and eggs in his hair and painting him white!
  5. I do remember this, in fact, I have it on video!
  6. Paul Whittaker's bad crash was in 1991, at Newcastle, I think. He last rode for Arena in 1995 as a replacement for the injured Rob Ledwith. Sadly, Whit wasn't the same rider he had been before the crash. Haven't heard anything about him since '95. Really would love to see Andy riding again, as he loves racing. It's an absolute miracle he ever sat on a speedway bike again after the horrific injuries he suffered in 1993. Respect to The Great Galvini! It's great that Moggo is still thrilling the crowds as he always did.
  7. MOGGO!!! The most entertaining rider I have ever seen, for one reason or another.
  8. Thanks for passing that on Ryan We would be absolutely delighted to see Josh back at Arena, in the Premier or Elite League. I know some people that would start going to Arena again if we had Josh back. I suppose we will all have to keep our fingers crossed that Josh makes his way back to ride for us one day. Would love to see him go round Purfleet, now the track has been returned back to almost the same one as 10 years ago. Thanks again Ryan, please wish Josh all the success in the world, as he really deserves it.
  9. Well done Josh! Ryan, if you ever speak to Josh, please ask him to come back and ride for Arena!
  10. Great to see Josh riding again, hope he is back where he belongs next season......................ARENA ESSEX!
  11. Martin Goodwin is still at Arena Essex most weeks, usually in the pits with Troy Pratt and others. Martin's daughter Abby is one of the startline girls at Purfleet too. Martin has been team manager at Arena for a couple of stints in the past few years. I think I remember seeing Gary Tagg at a Brighton Bonanza, helping out. Last I heard about Jamie Habbin was that he was going to move to Australia, that was shortly after he stopped racing here.
  12. 1991 Arena Essex Hammers were statistically the best ever National League/Second Division/Premier League team of all time. League, Cup and Fours Champions. Would have won the Gold Cup too, but for a bad refereeing decision. Only one loss in the league all year, only 4 points dropped in the 4TT Final, the top 2 riders in the league, huge crowds and the greatest comeback in speedway history too. Also the first team to win promotion to the top flight. Bo Petersen 10.54 Brian Karger 10.23 Alan Mogridge 8.85 Troy Pratt 7.45 Andy Galvin 7.43 Paul Hurry 5.59 Colin White 5.45 Others: Jan Pedersen 6.87 Rob Ledwith 5.25 <Sigh> Oh for those days back again. Especially the crowds!
  13. It may well include 'the Wheel'. Arena have had one for a couple of years now, and have also noticed one at Berwick too. They certainly seem to do a very good job.
  14. Not exactly sure when they start laying the track, but some of the Arena track equipment will be used for the GP track. This is why The Hammers don't have a match next Friday night.
  15. Crump has always been a bad loser, which is why I can't stand the guy either. Maybe he's related to Martin Dugard! Just to add, I've met Greg Hancock before, and I have to say he is one of the nicest friendliest people I've ever met.
  16. Such a shame that Ivan is no longer involved with speedway, especially at Arena. I used to go to college round the corner from his house, and in my lunch hour, would walk round to see the riders vans at his house. He used to have so many riders stay with him. Chrissy, if you see Ivan, please thank him for all the effort and money he put into Arena. 1991-95, were the best years of my life, coz we had a great race track and good teams. I miss seeing his Chevy van roar past on the motorways of Britain too!
  17. Bo Petersen His balance, strength and poise on a speedway bike were incredible.
