  1. I loved Brian Karger's leathers and matching bikes from 1991-1993 when he rode for Arena . Here is a photo, but they were much nicer watching them for real.
  2. Ronnie Russell said at Arena on Wednesday; Sergey has broken 8 ribs, punctured both lungs, broken his hip and has internal bleeding. He was being taken down for an emergency operation yesterday (Thursday) according to Arena's website (www.arenaessex-speedway.co.uk). He was still fully sedated. Fingers crossed for you Sergey, get well soon mate.
  3. He's much much too good to leave the sport. It will be a huge loss to speedway to lose him. He could go on to win at least a few more World titles. Thanks for being a Hammer for a while though Tony!
  4. Congratulations Tony! And to think he was a Hammer earleier this season. Hope he comes back!
  5. Thought I heard he was living in Australia, but I could be wrong.
  6. Loved the South Africa clips on there. Andy loved to race and always gave it his all. Even as a Hammer he managed to beat some of the world's best riders. The fact that he still wanted to race speedway and tried to race speedway after all of his very serious injuries, speaks for itself.
  7. Re-Run Productions. They have a kiosk at Arena every week, which normally has copies of it.
  8. Please will you send one to me too? I live round the corner from the old stadium, and can see the horrible Sainbury's, that now stands there, from my house. My email address is ClivClav@aol.com Thanks P.S. Any pictures of West Ham Stadium would be greatly appreciated too. Especially if you have the one of the Nazi bombers flying over Custom House.
  9. That's right VV. Mbbunyan, buy yourself the Andy Galvin Story and you will see the crash and how Andy passed Knight on the outside entering the first turn. Knight lost slight control for a second, clipped Andy and sent them both into the safety fence. Similar to the Lanham/Berge crash in 2000, come to think of it. Horrible night as we sat waiting to hear news on Andy's condition. On Saturday night, I stood next to an Eastbourne fan who laughed and cheered when Mark Loram and Paul Hurry both crashed. What a lovely human being he was(!).
  10. Andy was a fantastic and very skillful rider who did a great job teaching the young Mark Loram and Chris Louis how to ride. I remember him shutting off so many times to allow his team mates to win races, a real team man and a selfless racer. Pity there aren't more like him these days. I still remember that horrific crash at Arena in '93. To come back to racing after breaking his neck, back, pelvis and ribs was amazing.
  11. Great to see Kelvin riding well again after his hip replacement. Good on ya Kelv
  12. Had that accident happened at a track without an air fence, would Bjarne have walked away? Personally, I believe that deliberately knocking other riders off is not fair. Which is why it is an excludable offence. Loram had a go at him last year at Arena for taking his front wheel and leg away on the last corner as Loram rounded him. One day he may actually show a little class and dignity, rather than exhibiting all the classic signs of short man syndrome.
  13. Just the once. I remember in 1990, Martin climbing up to the ref's box at Arena and shaking the glasses of one referee whilst he was still wearing them. The poor ref looked very scared
  14. I think you are getting mixed up a little here as it was Martin Goodwin who threw his helmet through the ref's box window at Hackney in the eighties.I know ,I was there. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The incident you refer to happened in 1991, when Martin had moved from Arena to Rye House. He was subsequently banned for the rest of the season.
  15. Kelvin Tatum was a very good motocross rider, before his bad hip injury, although I don't think he competed in competitions. I think he met Danny Bird through motocross and introduced him to Speedway. Wasn't there a speedway/motocross winter meeting at Sheffield a while back? Anyone remember that? Results?
  16. We were happy to have Wayne at Purfleet, rami. We may not have had the best team during that time, but they were enjoyable times nonetheless. They were a great bunch of characters. Nice to know that Wayne liked being at Arena as much as we liked having him at Arena.
  17. rami, I used to love watching Bodger ride for Arena. He never gave up, and was very entertaining to watch. The sport needs more characters like Wayne. He remains sorely missed and is still thought of with great affection down here in Essex.
  18. Rob always had a way with the ladies. Remember his nickname?
  19. I heard Rob Tilbury was involved in a dubious industry, I wondered if it was true. He's probably earning good money, and thoroughly enjoying it though
  20. Graham Miles is a comedian now, spoke to him for a bit and he's a really nice guy. He has a great job, introducing some very nice and some VERY talented strippers onto the stage in between his routines! Lucky devil . Colin White, for anyone who didn't know, is the man behind CW Racing Products. He makes the race suits and bike livery of many riders and teams, including Arena Essex, Loram, Crump, Nicholls, Richardson etc.
