  5. taken from Birmingham Mail today Ben Barker: "‘I’ve finished top of the averages for two years now, and that’s not easy to do." 7 Nov 2012 08:25 Ben Barker wants to continue dual leagues participation Ben Barker Birmingham's Rider of the Year Ben Barker expects to be competing in both Elite and Premier Leagues again next season. Barker has successfully used the doubling-up regulations over the last two years to become one of the busiest riders in the sport, although it has given the Brummies some headaches when he has had to miss top-flight meetings. But the popular Cornishman insists being in the Elite League only would not give him enough meetings to continue his development as a rider. Barker said: “As I believe the rules are going to go, I’ll be able to double-up again next year and I need to do that because I’m not established in Europe. “It’s so hard to get out there into Poland, Sweden and Russia where the money is. ‘‘Once you get established there it’s not too bad but at the moment it’s hard work for me to get there. “So I’ve got to fill my calendar in England. ‘‘The more you race, the better you become and although I’m not against the best guys in the Premier League it’s still a tough league and I’ve just got to be racing my bike.” Barker has spent the last two Premier League seasons with Plymouth – whose future is uncertain after a proposed takeover reportedly fell through – but he has hinted he may well be on the move in any case following a troubled 2012 campaign in Devon. “It was disheartening because I go to a job and in the Premier League I do a very good job, and what I’m employed there to do,’’ Barker added. ‘I’ve finished top of the averages for two years now, and that’s not easy to do. “You go there feeling you want to give 100 per cent but you’re not being given anything from the backroom staff, they’re making it hard work for you. “The team manager (Lee Trigger) is a great guy, but other people there just made it hard. We would go to a meeting and never know what was going to happen. “It was a bit of a carry-on.’’
